If you paid an extra $20-40 for bullshit...
I certainly did. Play over the weekend. 20 bucks is cheap entertainment

This is the most excited I've haf for a new release since Elden Ring, 20 bucks is worth it!

Edit: Why you gotta yuck my yum!? Lol

I started that game about 8 times before I finally stuck with a playthrough. The dang character creation screen is half my playtime.
That's my problem with ANY rpg. Drives me crazy. Disclosure, I didn't play the beta, wanted to go in blind

Because I’m tired of the shit AAA studios put out for obnoxious prices.
I loved Diablo I and II, and liked Diablo III (especially while they had the auction house). I'm hesitant to buy Diablo IV even though half my friends will be playing it. A $70 price tag that I'm hesitant to spend up to anyway, an extra $20-30 if I want to start playing it the day the rest of my friends are, a day 1 battle pass, $28 cosmetics that apply to only one class at a pop, a cash to game currency, and who knows what in the future. That's a lot of bullshit I've got to deal with to play the potentially good game hiding behind it. Also, it takes up nearly 1/4 of my hard drive, so I'll need to do some housekeeping if I buy it.

Before anyone says "most of that's optional" I will say "I still have to see the optional bits advertised directly to me every time I play, and the rest isn't optional."

You need a bigger HD homie :-p

I think I have a spare 1 or 2TB HD if you need one.

Mine's a 500 gig SSD. At the time I built this PC it was a reasonable, but slightly small size. Of course, that was 8 years ago, so...
I did buy a 1TB SSD in 2021 that's still sitting around somewhere, but I never got it installed because I didn't realize my motherboard only had the one SATA III jack available (or maybe I just needed another cable?) and I didn't want to go through the trouble of backing up or losing my data at the time. I'd actually forgotten about it until this conversation. Might have to try to find that drive...

Word. I usually just buy the standard HDD for gaming. I’m not professional so I won’t see the difference between the read/write speeds.

Grab a 4TB drive and put all my games on it.
SDD for the OS though

Haters be damned, first few hours with Diablo 4 were pretty satisfying.
I'm not a hater of that game, I even re-downloaded Battle Net in anticipation of it (it looks really fun!), I just don't want all the extra BS that comes with the game. I understand that software as a service (SaS) has become the best way to make consistent money for game studios, and I don't begrudge them for wanting to leave the feast or famine business model of one time sales behind, but they're actually still charging that feast or famine $70 and tacking on the SaS BS anyway. The Server Slam is literally just them saying "if you're rich you can have nice things sooner". I feel fairly wealthy these days, but that still rankles.

My high school years were colored by charred demon flesh and the blood running down my bared steel, and I wouldn't trade those memories for anything, but my love for Diablo still has limits, and Blizzard is getting close to them.

Sorry for the wall of text here... I don't talk about this often, and apparently it's been festering.

I think that was open beta - in the sense that if you had pre-purchased any version of the game you could play. I pre-purchased the "basic" version of the game. I don't need any stupid skins, pets, etc. I was able to play in both beta testing stints they did.

That being said, this whole, "if you buy the platinum or epic versions of the game you can play 6 days sooner" is BS. Complete and utter horse shit.

Also Sorc's the best. Forget the rest. (At least in D2 and D4)

Ah, so I've got the names wrong? I heard that name bandied about so I assumed this was that. I don't know what they're calling it, I guess, I just know that I can play on June 6th while my friends can play this weekend. I imagine that if this restriction wasn't self imposed it could be somewhat harmful. But I'm sure there aren't any middle schoolers whose friends are playing this weekend, while their parents could only afford the $70 version, right?

I honestly don't know what class I'll play. I've always been very partial to barbarians. There's nothing better than getting in someone's face as quickly as you can and smashing them right in the nose. It may not surprise you, but in Borderlands I played as Brick, and I played him melee. When I played League of Legends I mained Riven, and I was a bully about it. But I also do love a good DPS caster (or trickster caster), so who knows?

Maybe? Depends on what you're referencing. Abut a month ago Blizzard had a stress test on their servers.

Are you referencing the game launching a few days early to those who bought upgraded versions?

I appreciated all classes in D2 (except for maybe the Amazon). Melee combat in D4 seems a bit nerfed, unless they changed things from the stress test about a month ago.

I tried rolling with a druid - couldn't get past the first boss. Simply took too much damage from having to be in melee range. Switched to a sorc and beat it with ease. Of course, your mileage may vary.

Totally get what both of you are saying, sorry if I came off confrontational or something. Didn't mean to!

I played a little bit of all classes last night except rogue and they are all fun. Sorc and Druid are awesome and think ive settled with Druid for the first run.

@Minnewildsota they must have balanced since the beta (I didn't play it) I melted that first boss with my melee lightning Druid

Whatever. Let's fight! You. Me. The parking lot.

I wish I remembered the bosses name that I had trouble with on the druid. Wonder if they buffed melee characters at all. I didn't seem to have any issues with regular mobs, but the bosses were killer. So, have you encountered any bosses? If so, did you have any trouble taking them down as a druid?

You're talking about the very first one that dissapears in the air and summons dogs and then jumps back down? Can't remember any names either. Yeah, they must have made some balances since the beta. I melted that boss. Haven't had any problems with any other bosses yet, but I'm barely into the game yet since I dabbled with the other classes too.

Yes, that is what I was referencing.

I'm from a true open world (nothing is instanced) MMORPG background, so the few days of early access are something I'm used to seeing. It makes sense for those type of games imo. It spreads out the player base a bit for areas being used. It also adds another filter to separate the hardcore (race to max level/end game content) from more casual players (I've been on both ends of this spectrum).

I think it's dumb to have for single player games. I look at it as you're paying a fee to be the final beta tester for a game. It used to be a "reward" for pre-ordering a game; which is fine.

Well, I found the 1TB SSD (it was actually in my computer, in a hidden storage compartment). Went to Best Buy and got a SATA 3 cable and boom it's up and running. I've got storage space for days! I owe you one for reminding me, @Minnewildsota

Stay the hell away from Den Mother. You see that name, just run. Feels like a dark souls boss without the Dark Souls mechanics. Cant really GIT GUD with an AARGP since it's way more about a build compared to skill. Died and died and died and died and died again. I'm leaving her for now. Other than that, I'm f***ing loving this game. I've never been a sound guy or audiophile.... but the SFX in this game are top notch.

That’s the one! Den mother just absolutely wrecks melee characters.
Had absolutely no issues with the sorc though.

Welp... your impressions remain true. Melee(ish) characters are tough. Couldn't beat Den Mother.... got roasted time and time again by the boss for the druid class quest that opens up @ 15. Rolled a sorc and, with arc lash, was just rolling through everything and every boss. Probably could have done the same with one hand and one eye closed... but it is wasn't fun. I really enjoy the druid class though so bumped down to WT1 and having an easier time. Who knows, the patch this morning probably nerfed sorc into the ground (it was DEFINITELY needed). One would think with the beta/slam they would have figured a little more balance out. Still really loving this game and shirking many other things I should be doing because of it. Lol
