Picked up the new Final Fantasy. The pre-order came with 6 iron on (I think?) patches, so kinda neat. I'll play it tonight sometime when I have some spare time.

It was ether this game or Diablo, so I hope I picked correctly.

If it’s anything like FF15, I would have gone with D4.

FF15 was/is such a shit game.

FF15 got better once the DLCs came out, but at launch it was an unfinished/trash game.

I'll admit I'm a sucker for FF games. A few are great (Tactics and 7og), most are quality/good, and a few are bad (MMO at launch and 15). It's also a series the wife enjoys, so that's a bonus for me spending money.

Oh, I’ma huge FF nerd too. I agree with your assessment of games.

FF7R was great as well, IMHO

I've heard this one is a lot better. Will be trying out this weekend I think. I watched someone play the demo and it looked sweet.

FF7R get knocked a little bit for me because it's not the "full" game.

FF16 graphics are amazing, but the gameplay very cinematic so far. I haven't gotten the feeling of being the main character in an epic story. It feels more like I'm the stunt double in a movie. It's very linear so far; which TBF is normal for early FF games.

My biggest gripe is that you can't custom remap the controls. I just want to swap the R1 and O buttons.

Well I finished FF16. How I described it to the wife is a video game that was mostly video and not much game. No bs there is over 20 hours of cutscenes in a game that takes 40 hours to complete. Even the "boss" are so heavily scripted and filled with cutscenes/cinematics that make the battles artificially longer. All the video is superb, no complaints about the quality of it, it's just way too much quantity. The story is compelling, but I never got the feel I was a part of it. To me it was more like an amusement park ride where I was just along for the ride.

My suggestion is this is a game to rent (or better yet get from the library for free) before you buy.

I feel like a lot of recent games have been this way, and I find them really boring. Red Dead Redemption 2 is the first that came to mind. Saw somewhere it was around 19 hours of cutscenes. I hate that and was bored out of my mind with it. I want to be involved. If I wanted a movie, I'd go watch one.

At least RDR2 had a ton of content and a huge open world to play around in. It didn't feel like it was that much, but I went and messed around doing lots of different things in the game so it was pretty spread out for me.

Cyberpunk was another one I found video heavy. It was unplayable for way too long after release, but it ended up being fun once it got working content. The HDZ games had a lot of cutscenes too, but the open world spread them out for me.

FF16 doesn't have that same open world concept and there isn't a lot of things to do in the game. I did all the side quests and monster hunts not just plow through the main story to beat the game. I didn't do the timed pillars or play new game+

I do agree there is too much video scenes in a lot of new games. Some of it is fine, but some of it bothers me.

RDR2 is my favorite game of all time. Funny thing is that it took me like 3 restarts over 2 years to actually like it. It is, and always will be, the most exciting and boring game I've ever played. I wish I could experience it, in its entirety, again. It's an absolute masterpiece. FF16 is... not very good. The framerate is an absolute adventure. The combat (maybe just me) is just button mashing, I don't appreciate the switch to action adventure they've been building towards..... but they've been building towards it for years. FF needs to be a turn based, party focused, RPG. I don't know why they feel they need to reinvent the wheel here. I've been so let down since, when was the last turn based game, 10? I do really like the switch to a more dark and mature story line though.

RDR2 was an instant hit for me. Cyberpunk was one that took me a few restarts to get into, but that game had serious issues when it came out.

I'm just commenting on what I thought of FF16 as a standalone game. It is a game I'm having serious buyers remorse with.

I think game franchises need to evolve to stay relevant. The old turned based FF games have a soft spot with me, but going back and playing them I find it's just button mashing the "X" button most of the time to get on with the fight. What I do miss is the party aspect and different abilities for the party members.

See, I'm not done with the game yet but I'm having an absolute great time with FFXVI. I think the combat is fun when you can combine the different moves and element types. It's definitely some button mashing but it feels good when you can pull it off in the right way.

It looks absolutely incredible. No issues at all with any frame rate stuff that I've seen. I do have the graphics set towards the frame rate preference, but yeah I feel like it's performed flawlessly so far.

I was playing the new Jedi game and I did really like it so far and I'm sure I'll go back to it when I'm done with FF, but it's crazy how much better FF looks visually.

I'll keep trucking along and see if I end up agreeing with any of the disappointments, but can't say I have so far at least. I would recommend the game to anyone, even if you have no connection to FF.

Diablo 4 is still providing me a ton of entertainment though!

My interest in Diablo 4 hit a wall after reaching level ~70. The build is basically finished, finding better gear feels extremely unlikely and all means of leveling feel repetitive. It was fun before reaching that point though.

Might check again next season if there's some fun twist to the gameplay.

Yeah I feel like they left out content on release and said we’ll add it for seasons.

Druid main. Super fun once geared correctly for trampleslide
Softcore or hardcore? I think Druid will be my next class.

Started out with a softcore bard got to around 75-78 and got a bit bored then switched to a hardcore sorc and have been enjoying it.

I'm not, well, hardcore enough to play hardcore. Maybe if I get bored before season 1 I'll give it a shot.

I got Diablo 4 and it's fun, but I should have picked a different class than Barbarian.

I was level 15 and had just the 3 starter attacks and put every point into passive things. A hp buff yep, taking that first. Ohh more armor that'll be next, or maybe the better taunt. Too many years of MMO raid tanking has me picking all the "wrong" stuff for my skill points at low level. :banghead:

I don't know if anyone else feels this way, here. I enjoyed Diablo 4 for what it was, but it left me wanting something... else. Like Diablo 1 or 2. I play Diablo mostly for the combination of dungeon crawl, character building, interesting items that change the way you play the game, and the story.
In this Diablo the dungeon crawl happens throughout, but the dungeons are fairly uninspired usually. The characters get built too quickly, and then feel locked in once built in spite of the respec; I had reached level 50 by the time I was in act 3, so for only about half the story did I get to build my character, and by then my items were fairly set in stone due to all the legendary aspects. Then I got my first unique item right when the story ended. All of the parts are there, but they don't all come together at any single point.

I tried doing some helltides, but found them sort of a boring slog. So then I tried making a hardcore character, but got bored of that right away since I knew no interesting items were coming any time soon (or maybe ever depending on my skill and luck), and it just felt like the same slog but with slightly more adrenaline at times. I've long been a Diablo hardcore player, but it just isn't all there for me in this one.

I'm looking forward to Season of the Malignant for the added story, but I've put Diablo 4 down for now, and I probably will again once the new story beats are done. Are you guys still loving Diablo 4? What about it is keeping you hooked?

Endgame kinda sucks in d4. Feels like they completely left that out with the grind to lvl 100 being enough of an endgame for now. They probably sacrificed content at launch in favor of season content.

Completed my first escape on Hades. Am i a dingus for calling it there? Doing other runs with the other weapons doesnt really intrigue me right now. I feel like i completed the game even if i havent gotten the end game credits.

Quit when you want. More story plays out each time you beat it; that's about it. The gameplay is the about the same, a couple of different modes open up eventually. Even those are just buffing the enemies to match you when you get overpowered.

I look at is a Dynasty Warriors game. I'll play it until I feel it's complete, put it down, and pick it up once in awhile when I just want to mindlessly slaughter things.
