So with 1st rd series looking like they are almost decided...any ideas on who will fill out the remaining 5 spots. That's if HC decides on a full 25 man roster. Sometimes they don't take 25.

I'd like to see Seguin, Benn (the 1 token Olympian) Daley, Muzzin and Purcell (although I'd rather MacArthur) or maybe even Justin Williams.

a line of Benn Seguin Williams doesn't strike me as half bad..

The best player that might realistically join, in my opinion, is Johansen. Of course Columbus might beat Pittsburgh, but a young guy going through a breakout year seems like a likely candidate to participate. That would be a nice addition, as it would bump every other centre down the depth chart into a more suitable role. Columbus being eliminated would also free up Murray, which would be a nice defensive addition.

As far as Dallas, I am assuming that Seguin and Benn make a decision together. I am more optimistic about Benn participating than I was about almost any other Olympian, but it's still a dicey proposition. Seguin does not seem particularly inclined to play internationally given his comments about the WJC (understandable, but most guys would keep their opinions to themselves) and a refusal to play at this tournament a few years ago (claims of a wrist injury I believe). Still, they had a great year together and may possibly want to keep that up for another few weeks.

right...Johansen and Murray. I forgot about Columbus.

Seguin has a legitimate beef with Hockey Canada imo... he should be pissed! And the way Hockey Canada often dicks around with the juniors, I'm not surprised they dish out a little payback when the opportunity presents itself... I don't mind that... I do mind however if a player can't eventually get past it. I've always said Mackinnon has a score to settle with Hockey Canada as well and when the invite eventually comes, Nate should make somebody from the Calgary office crawl all the way to Cole Harbour begging him to play. In a spat with Hockey Canada, I will always support the player...

Due to his usage by Spott? One moronic coach is not all of HC.

I'm not talking just about outside junior coaches hired to coach a tournament...there were a lot more issues with hockey canada people than just that...

I do agree with you though re: Seguin and Benn. They'll either go together, or neither one goes.

Agree on this, mostly on cases where the snub is blatantly obvious. If im Max Domi somewhere along the lines if HC invites me to say the WHC. I'm snubbing them. Just because everyone and their dog knew he should have been on this years WJC team

Since you seem to have inside information on this let's hear it.....What issues were there?

Next time your boss fails to promote you....then when he offers you a raise...make him kiss your feet

See how that goes for you

Hmmm, interesting team. It looks fairly ugly on paper, respective of the talent pool we have to choose from, but its not as bad the teams some of the other countries will be fielding. Given the skillsets of some of the players chosen, they'll have clearly-defined roles and may therefore have the potential to gel a bit quicker than some of the other teams we've sent over in the past. I also like Tippett as the coach of this team, and depending on how this team performs he may work his way into Hockey Canada's portfolio of favoured coaches for best-on-best tournaments.

The defense looks relatively solid and well-balanced, and I'm certainly not going to complain about Reimer and Scrivens in goal. Travis Hamonic would have been a nice addition, given his invitation to the Olympic orientation camp last summer, but no biggie. Up front, the first thing that struck me is the abundance of natural centers (Turris, Bozak, Hodgson, Kadri, Monahan, Scheifele), and at least two will have to move over to the wing (perhaps another depending on who comes over after the 1st playoff round). I'm guessing Scheifele and Monahan would be the prime candidates based on style of play and seniority. Other guys who I thought would fit in well on this team were Clarke MacArthur, Bryan Little, Travis Zajac, and Adam Henrique, and I'm at a loss as to why they weren't invited (unless I missed something and they were invited, and refused). As currently constructed, this is a team that will have to grind out some wins.

What kind of help is on the way? For all of us (including myself) hoping for an influx of Avalance players (O'Reilly, MacKinnon, Barrie), that's probably not going to happen. Moulson would be a reasonable addition from Minny. Killorn (LW) and Purcell (RW) from Tampa. Of course Benn and Seguin would change the entire complexity of the team if they came over either as a package deal or individually, but I think Dallas has some fight left in them and I'm not going to get my hopes up for those guys making their way over anyway. Its too early to tell IMO on San Jose vs. Los Angeles (Williams would be a great addition) and Chicago vs. St. Louis. If St. Louis ends up going out, I'd love to see Jaden Schwartz there. Obviously Johansen and Murrya from Columbus. And Couturier and B Schenn from the Philly - NYR series. Again, too early to tell.

Perron - Turris - Scheifele
Huberdeau - Hodgson - Ward
Chimera ("A") - Bozak - Brouwer
Monahan - Kadri

Garrison - Bieksa ("A")
Methot ("C") - Rielly
Gudbranson - Ellis
Myers

Reimer
Scrivens

I don't claim to have any inside information.

Well you said there were other issues....I never heard about anything else through media...on forums or anything else so you must know something....what is it? How did Hockey Canada wrong Mackinnon besides ice time?

Pretty serious statement to make if you are right about it...so what issues were there? Did they not feed him when he was there? Maybe the clothes they gave him were too tight....no first class seat available on plane?

Nice to see Bob Nicholson is preparing for his leave from HC.

I agree that the team isn't hopeless as currently constructed. Look at the typical Finnish team that goes to this tournament, and Canada probably compares favourably. It defiitely looks like a team with defined roles. I'm also confused about guys like Zajac, MacArthur and Little (who could replace several players on this team). Henrique is apparently injured. It's worth noting that Bozak isn't an official add yet.

I would LOVE to see MacKinnon playing for Canada, I think he would do something similar to Crosby in 2006. Anyway, I will rather enjoy his race in the playoffs

You're missing Burrows :)

Indeed I am - my mistake. He's not on TSN's list (though Bozak is), and vice versa for the list appearing on Hockey Canada's website. Which makes sense, to Jack's comment above regarding Bozak not officially being named to the team yet.

I'm not as optimistic as you are...

Looks like Barrie is not an option in the event the Avs go out. Tough break for the kid...just emerging as a solid NHLer and now this...done in by none other than the infamous one... I was just starting to forgive Barrie too for the Buffalo fiasco. Wish him speedy recovery.

Apparently MacArthur wanted to come, but he had a Visa issue (He lives in the States in the off-season).

I don't quite understand why a Canadian citizen who is a resident in the U.S. in the off season would have a problem for an international tournament in a 3rd country; something is not right there.

Interesting... MacArthur received a conditional invitation two years ago, but I don't recall this visa issue being mentioned.

I done a little digging, from a report a few weeks ago. MacArthur's issue is a nagging hand injury, would like to go..depending on it feels in a few weeks (which would be right about now) he wanted to discuss it with the fam, their thoughts and then he'll make a decision.

Has there been any word on Stamkos joining the team? Be nice to see him the red and white after missing the Olympics.

After missing 3 months of the season with a broken femur that is still not 100% healed...I would say not a chance.

No Bozak. If he hasn't accepted yet, he doesn't want to go. So we need 3 roster spots to fill.

This isnt even that bad of a lineup IMO. Our defense is suited for the big ice especially with mobile offensive kids like Rielly and Ellis. Gudbranson, Bieksa, Garrison are pretty solid puck movers as well.
Our forwards dont really lack skill, Guys like Perron, Scheifele, Kadri, Huberdeau and Hodgson can put the puck in the net. Turris and others as well are pretty reliable in own end
Than our goalies shouldnt be an issue
I think we are a bit underrated
