No Bozak. If he hasn't accepted yet, he doesn't want to go. So we need 3 roster spots to fill.

I seriously doubt Myers will be the 7th d. I do like the 2nd forward line though.

Stamkos could join and maybe St.Louis if the Blueshirts are gone

Given his status in the hockey world, as well as his severe injury earlier in the year, it would be shocking if Stamkos joined. As far as St. Louis, considering the Olympic fiasco it is pretty obvious that he will not be playing for Canada again.

Can someone quick-update on how many roster spots are left? Forgot the total # you can take

up to 25 players. They can be added at anytime throughout the tournament. Although I don't believe Hockey Canada ever fills out the maximum 25. Hard enough getting 22 players over there who actually will play..not too many players are interested in dragging their ***** all the way to Europe to not play, spectators. No thanks...I'll go to lake and open up the cottage thanks for asking.

If the Blues go out today, which is looking like a sure thing right now, I'd really like to see Jaden Schwartz go over. He has a history with Hockey Canada, was mentioned (I believe by his GM Doug Armstrong) as being on the shortlist for replacement players for the Sochi team, and is a natural LWer, possibly our weakest position going forward. He's been impressive, IMO, in these playoffs.

Agreed. Schwartz is potentially someone who could fill a two-way role on the wing for Canada in the future. He could fit in on any line with this team, and I fully expect an offer to be sent his way. Much smarter player than his age would indicate.

If Jamie Benn and Tyler Seguin come play for Canada we might win this thing.

Doubt Benn comes, Seguin should come help the team.

Benn, Daley, Seguin, Swartchz are the 4 I hope TC adds. I doubt very much they'll go to the max 25 on the roster. Should be an interesting few days...can't get any news on when the team will start training...are they even together yet? There is zero coverage..or am I just not paying close enough attention?

I am skeptical with Benn and Seguin. Benn played in the Olympics, and Seguin may feel that he is big enough at this point not to go (plus he has a history of lukewarm reactions to HC). If Columbus loses and Canada can add Schwartz and Johansen, that's not bad.

We have to have at least 1 Olympian answer the bell.

We'll see what Seguin decides... He's in the same boat as T. Hall in my book..if thinks he's too BIG for the WHC and doesn't have a legitimate reason to decline (and I'm a fan) then HC should make it very clear to him what the ramifications of that decision would be. But they most likely won't do that...

You never know. Benn was the Olympian (other than Duchene who is obviously a no) who I thought might participate if given the opportunity. If he goes I think Seguin will go. I see them making the same decision. I suppose Pietrangelo could also go, but I doubt he will.

What exactly is Seguin's beef with HC? just cause he wasn't on team canaa (2010wjc)

I don't think he should be holding a grudge for getting cut from the junior team when he was 17 (just before he turned 18 draft year) although it was a crappy decision at the time...I felt he should have made the team

but he was left off the Hlinka team in the summer of 09 as well. (1992 born players) and in 2010 HC left him off the list of potential players for the IIHF U18 tournament. I don't remember how deep Plymouth went into the playoffs that year, but even if they were eliminated quickly he would not have been on the team as HC didn't submit his name on an expanded list. So, if Seguin is lukewarm to HC, it comes with a history. Just to add he was left of that 09 Hlinka team in favour of some future NHL stars of the likes of
Brett Connolly Steven Shipley Michael Sgarbossa Gabriel Desjardins Christian Thomas John McFarland Jordan Weal Ryan Spooner Quinton Howden
Freddie Hamilton Greg McKegg.... I think these players collectively can't match the production of Seguin in the NHL.

My mistake he was on the 09 Hlinka team... not the 2010 U18 team. I was reading the wrong year.

Hope Seguin goes, but as others have said I can see him thinking that he's too big for the WHC. Unfortunate really.

If he declines this year or next year, I think an appropriate response would be not to invite him to the 2017 WHC

The hate Seguin is getting is completely unwarranted. He never turned Hockey Canada down. In 2011 and 2013 he was unavailable to play because of the playoffs. In 2012 he had hand surgery shortly after the playoffs ended. It's not unreasonable he didn't play that year.

He's never said or done anything to indicate he has one. People are just making stuff up.

TBH, after Hockey Canada put Kunitz on the Olympic team, I don't think anyone could be blamed for not doing them any favours.

The Seguin stuff stems from two things: He admitted that he would rather be a rarely used player with the Bruins than play for Canada at the WJC, which is a sentiment probably shared by many players but rarely stated publicly. The wrist injury, if I recall correctly, was something that would not be made worse by playing, though it was painful. These two things, in unison with his generally negative image, lead to these statements. I agree that it is being overstated (and about Kunitz).

Sean Monahan and Jeff Skinner said the same thing.

The wrist surgery was necessary - he had it shortly after the playoffs and was in a cast for awhile. His priority was his NHL career. It's not reasonable to expect him to play through pain at a spring tournament. Others don't.

Edit - just notice the poster complaining Seguin is an "arrogant jackass" is an Oilers fan. Not surprised :shakehead

Skinner and Monahan were far bigger parts of their respective teams than Seguin was. Seguin was sitting out several games around that time I believe, and was playing minimal minutes. The wrist surgery was something that he needed at some point, but as was said he was not at risk to make it worse by playing. Neither is a cardinal sin or anything, but they do not help perceptions.

Whether they were bigger parts of their team or not, both said they were happy not to go. And apparently Boston felt it was better for Seguin not to go. It's not surprising that a player who is playing in the NHL would prefer to stay with that team rather than being released for U20 tournament. It says no more about Seguin than it does about any of the other players who play in the NHL while being U20 eligible and feel the same way.

He had the wrist surgery in mid-May - while the WC tournament was going on - and he'd been playing through pain before that. It's not a snub that he had surgery that he needed rather than continuing to play through pain at WC. Most teams would want that for their players rather than going off to a tournament. I have no doubt the Bruins were happy he had the surgery rather than playing.

Given how questionable Hockey Canada's selection process is for tournaments - extending as young as the U18s - I would never fault any player for not bending over backwards to play. Hockey Canada does it to itself with its own lack of professionalism.
