Does anyone else think that interest in / media coverage of this tournament seems weaker than normal this year? I haven't seen anything about the players receiving invitations after the 1st playoff round...normally we would have heard about the status of the Schwartz's, Johansen's, Seguin's, etc., by now. Maybe its international hockey overload, and the lack of star power associated with this being an Olympic year - which IMO has the impact of both reducing the number of Olympic players actually accepting the invite (only Perry accepted in 2010), and the number of young guys looking to bolster their reputation and credibility with HC. Or maybe Blake is just waiting until the 1st round is complete before sending out his final invitations.
As to Seguin; its an interesting debate to be sure. I personally don't hold it against him if he chooses not to accept the HC invite. I also have an enormous amount of respect for players like Joel Ward and Jason Chimera who wouldn't make the Olympic team in a million years, but still choose to represent Canada. The flip side of course is that, as a potential bubble player for any future editions of Team Canada (2016 or 2018, whatever the case may be), a player of comparable quality (say, Matt Duchene) who gets his ass over to Europe at every possible opportunity for HC will probably slot in ahead of Seguin on the depth chart, all things being equal.
