Wonder if they put Rossi & Boldy with Fiala or give Rossi a look with Kirill

Early reports are it's Foligno - Rossi- Fiala....

Not sure why they would break up what Rossi/Boldy have built in the AHL.
They probably feel Foligno has earned better linemates (LOL, bc fiala hasn't). Seriously, though:

Kaprizov-Hartman-Zucc
GREEF
Fiala-Rossi-Boldy

My excitement about the call ups is tempered by the fact that not only have they split up Rossi and Boldy, who are the only players that have mutual chemistry going into their first game, but that Boldy, the player that, IMO, is going to stay up for good, is playing on a checking line, rather than Fiala.

I love Foligno's game, but he is a dump and chaser, just like Duhaime, and Sturm. Boldy and Rossi (and fiala) are puck possession guys, Like Kaprizov and Zuccarello. Putting Boldy on a D & C line is misusing his talents.

The only justification I can see is that Evason wants to protect Rossi from abuse, which is a legit strategy. Rossi was getting abused even down in the AHL.

I think the lines are fluid enough that Boldy will be tried in a few different spots this seaosn

My initial thought was Foligno is there to protect Rossi from getting abused. If he does well in Boston I could see the lines adjusting properly

I am wondering why so many like Rossi and Boldy together on a line? Boldy has, I believe 3 even strength points in 10 AHL games? Talented players with pp points but 5 on 5 easily split up. Good luck to them in their debut.

Don't mind them being split up, in a vacuum. Problem is Boldy is playing with low skill grinders because of it. Rossi plays a game better fit for that style than Boldy does. Boldy is the better player at the moment and would contribute more in a top six role.

Boldy is Playing with Rossi on a line at the AHL level and has 3 even strength points in 10 games, was my point.

Have you watched all of the Iowa games?

Here's where I'm getting at. They've only played 7 games together (Boldy with two injures, and Rossi was out on the December 2nd, 4th and 5th games that Boldy played), and in those 7 games, Boldy had his 3 ESP, 9 in total (as well as a play that he didn't get a point on, but a beautiful pass that led to a Rossi penalty shot where he scored), Rossi had 9 points, and they've been incredible together.

The other thing is that last season Boldy had 13 ESP in 14 games, so the 3 in 10 this year doesn't really mean he's not a good even strength player.

The reason that the people that have been watching Iowa this season don't want to see them split up is because despite the statistics, they've been very good together when they have been together, and there are both a wing and center spot open on Fiala's line that they would fit into perfectly, together, while being a better fit than Foligno. Adjusting to the NHL is really difficult, but it might be a little easier if the two players that already have chemistry together can play together at that level.

Also throwing Fiala on their wing would exemplify the way the Boldy/Rossi/Beckman line has looked as of late.. the other day in Winnipeg they were generating chances left and right, would get Fiala going. Everyone is saying it would be a matchup nightmare and that Bergeron's line would eat them up but IMO you don't know if you don't try.. give them as much opportunity to feel comfortable and get to their game from the jump, if they become an issue with matchup then swap Moose and Boldy. Really putting those 3 on a line together could really open up more opportunities for Kaps line. I hope they get to it.

If Bergeron's line is matching up against Fiala and two rookies, you've already won, because that means Kaprizov gets to go to town against Charlie Coyle and Taylor Hall.

I'm just 'okay' about splitting them up. While they have great chemistry (why would you break that up), I also understand the fact that it's scary to put two rookies playing their first NHL game with an inconsistent player like Fiala all on one line.

My guess is that one of their worries about a Boldy-Rossi-Fiala line is that Boldy and Rossi are both untested defensively at the NHL level, it is probably a bigger worry with Rossi. You don't want them to get exposed their first game.

Yeah that is what my argument was about it too. But they seem to also think that Boldy and Rossi are liabilities on the other side of the ice, just solely based off of not being in the NHL yet.. which sure I guess there is some merit there as it is a different animal, but these are a different kind of prospect (hopefully) and I just don't get why you don't try Boldy/Rossi/Fiala to start and make adjustments as needed. Feels more like a reward to Moose than an actual attempt to see where best fits may lie. You're now instead asking both Moose and Bolds to play different roles than they are accustomed to which to me draw more issue in those first NHL starts then setting players up to be comfortable.

I have been happy to see that all of the younger prospects, especially Boldy and Beckman, have improved their motor after getting AHL time. Both of them tended to float when they didn't have the puck when they first got to the AHL. That has changed, and they have shown noticeably better effort and skating technique now compared to when they first showed up. I don't know if Ness shows up in Iowa, of if we can expect even better improvements once the show up here and get regular tutelage from them. Beckman has looked faster in my viewings of him recently. Good effort on the back check, too, for a guy who is a sniper.

Rossi has gotten better also, but he already a decent motor. He needs to work on getting faster and more efficient, for sure, but his struggle will be to survive the physicality of NHL, sort of like Spurgeon had to early on(and PMB didn't).

if Boldy doesn't play 9 games this season, will he also save 1 year of his ELC like Rossi?
