Dude is trash on the ice. Cheap. Spot picker. Turtles. Good 4th liner skill wise though. Won't be the first Bruin I can't stand, but obviously will root him on. This place has pulled the greatest about face ever though on him, well done.

He's fought quite a few established tough guys - he ain't good at it, but shows up regularly enough. Can't say I've seen him spot-picking, but should we witness this, I will be at the front of that line lol

I just need him to not take dumb penalties

At least help make it 4 on 4.... Since the Bruins is one of the best in the league

Against the Canes and TBL (Maroon) .... GH will definitely help

Canes were the ones agitating the Bruins last season. Can't let that happen again.

Hathaway is actually (surprisingly?) a net positive with regards to penalties.

Of the top-75 hits leaders in the league over the last two seasons (Hathaway ranks 12th), only Klim Kostin of the Oilers draws more penalties per 60 minutes than Hathaway.

Marchand has earned his reputation and bias from the refs. Just last game he slewfooted Bjorkstrand. Marchand is a rat and one of the dirtiest players in the history of the league, but we love him because he's a Bruin and passionate and talented. While not in same realm of talent, Hathaway plays hard, finished his checks and makes the opposition suffer. He's exactly what we enjoy in Marchand.
I don't agree that Brad is one of the dirtiest players in the league. He hasn't been for a number of years.

"Lighten up, Francis,"

Mr. Hathaway best be effective forthwith.

If not, I shall adjudge harshly,

For over a decade, the Bruins have played their best hockey when they are emotionally engaged, at which point they're really hard to beat. The thing I appreciate most about Hathaway is that he'll keep the games emotionally charged when he needs to, but more so if the team goes flat. Hey, that's what I recall from the games vs the Caps.

Thank you, sir.

Somehow I had Hathaway mixed up with Goodrow. Probably because they both "bring the nasty."

I was thinking, is this the TBL guy who jumped Z from behind while he was dealing with another Lightning player? Effing cheap move. So, wary.

Turns out it was Goodrow.

Now I can root for Ms. Hathaway with a clear conscience,

Glad we’ve got him. We had Ken Linseman in the 80’s playing for us and I remember the hate that others, especially in Montreal, had for him back then. But he made us better and helped get us to the finals in ‘88. Hope Hathaway does the same as we need grit in a big way to win the Cup.

Welcome, Garnet.... :skeptic:

You're gonna have to earn the cookies with the B's first though
PS, OT: The Girl Scouts are out with their cookies at the Harvard T station and elsewhere.

I am not a sweets person, but I enjoyed the mint, peanut butter and sugar cookies GS proferred back in the 70s.

I think I tried one of the "new" cookies perhaps ten years ago, and the taste left something to be desired. Perhaps an inferior "recipe" or ingredients?

Am I right about this?

'Splain.

Do.

Sometimes when I think of opposing players, or even fans of other teams, I think of the only decent scene in Rambo: First Blood Part II. The scene where Lt. Col. Podovsky is interrogating Rambo is actually pretty deep. We are all the same, more or less, yet separated by where we were born, the flags we fly, and the uniforms we wear. As the Colonel so beautifully states: “to me, you are a comrade, similar to myself, just opposed by an act of fate.”

Garnet Hathaway wears Black & Gold now. The same uniform as all our favorites. He’s one of us and I’m sure he’s going to play his guts out to win the Stanley Cup.

When we really think about it, in the real world there is seldom “black or white,” just shades of gray. Only “our side,” and “their side.” I, for one, welcome Hathaway and Orlov to “our side.”

Always noticed him on the ice when we played against the Caps and in one of the recent playoffs against the Bruins the line he was on was the most effective. If he can bring the same energy and effectiveness then I am all for it.

How I anticipate the pregame will go with him and Marchand being shits.

Glad you posted this. Night of the trade I read something to this effect on the Caps board and was surprised. I was wrongly under the impression that he put his team on the PK a lot more than he was able to draw penalties. As you point out, he actually is a master at drawing penalties.

Hathaway here will be a lot like Marchy would be if he got traded to another team. Hate his guts when playing against him, but really appreciate him when he's on your side. Not sure how hard it will be to train my brain to like him after so many years of despising his existence. Probably won't take too long if he comes in crushing opponents and potting some goals.

Agreed.

He is what he is. He made his bed and he has to sleep in it. All his embellishments, his antics, his dangerous plays that could have caused severe injury have added up over the years and the refs are probably sick of his shit for the most part.

He's lost the ability to get the benefit of the doubt. Still a great player and we don't win the 2011 cup without his contributions but you can't be in denial about what he's done.
