Started No Man's Sky the other night.

I know it was a mess at launch and have heard great things about how they've fixed the game. I'm looking forward to checking it out and not having had a negative experience with the game already.

Yeah its definitely overwhelming for returning players. I used to play back in 2011-2012 but have kept up with the game since. You can probably go without learning about Pendulums because nobody really uses them but Link summoning is pretty essential to the modern game. Either way it's awesome to finally get a video game rendition of the real game that actually looks and feels good to play like Duel Links.

As for PVP, yeah the decks and free packs suck but I think it's a lot easier to play for free in comparison to Duel Links because of the crafting system. I found you can get one good deck by just playing the solo mode for a while and getting the daily login bonuses. I have 15 hours played currently, probably 6 of those are playing the solo mode. With zero money invested I've built this Sky Striker deck which has taken me to Gold 4 with 0 losses so far.

I'm enjoying Solo. Didn't really understand the pack system but sort of getting the hang of it. Made a decent (in solo, anyway) Gaia deck because it looked cool

I'm not too big into PvP so the Solo mode is nice. I did play some PvP in Duel Links totally free to play and was in Plat, but that was a while ago now....definitely took some grinding and I'm sure my deck was less than optimal.

This seems much easier to start out for sure.

I played it for a bit almost a year ago and while playing it I decided it wasn't my type of game, I can appreciate it for the work the devs put into it since launch

I absolutely love RPG/exploration games, so I always thought it was in my wheelhouse, but the horror stories at launch kept me away for a long time. It's on game pass though, so I'm going to give it a fair shake. I'm kinda burnt on RDR2 and Subnautica and need a new world to explore, lol.

I wouldn't say that the game was a mess at launch, but the launch was a mess because the devs underdelivered on their promises to a degree that was perceived as lying. Mainly, the graphics weren't nearly as good as they were in the E3 trailers and the game was single-player, not multi-player like it was made to sound.

I played it at launch without having read or seen much about it beforehand and I don't recall having a negative experience. It's not like I encountered bugs or unexpectedly poor performance. The gameplay and story were a little empty, though. It was a good exploration and resource gathering game, but there wasn't much to it beyond that. Since then, they've added tons of features (like base building, vehicles and such... a lot of things that make it more like Subnautica) and improved the graphics. I wouldn't say that they "fixed" the game, because it was never actually "broken," but they've made it much better and more substantial.

For the record, though, I haven't re-visited it in years, but I usually check the changelogs to see what they've added and have been impressed with all of the additions. I definitely want to re-visit it at some point and check out all of the improvements personally.

I'm playing Ghost of Tsushima.

I think really well done but kind of generic open world game is the best way to describe it. I'm at the point that I've reached with all other open world games I've played. Everything outside of the main story is starting to feel repetitive. I'm tired of traveling back and fourth on a horse. I'm tired of looking around an enemies' camp or going just slightly off the path to collect the hundreds and hundreds of supplies needed to upgrade anything. I do like it overall, but it just suffers from the same trappings as other open world games for me.

I've been playing Catherine: Full Body

Seems like a fairly short game, I think I'm already about 3/4 of the way through after a few days. I was expecting to adore it but I'm not enjoying it quite as much as I expected. I love Persona and this seemed like a more "adult" game from Atlus so I was excited since I am near death from old age (mid-30's). The gameplay loop is half puzzles, half social interactions. I enjoy the latter a lot more tbh. For whatever reason the puzzle system just isn't that enjoyable for me. A younger me would've forced myself to complete them properly to "earn" the rest of the game but I've just been turning it on easy and letting the CPU help me if I get stuck.

So the real draw is the story and characters and they're up and down as well. As a man approaching mid-life crisis territory. I certainly appreciate the Catherine/Katherine dynamic with our main character torn between his steady life partner and a new young fling. It's fun to live out the fantasy/nightmare of hiding infidelity and I think most of the story so far has been pretty entertaining. I like the idea of talking to characters in the bar to help save them in the puzzle sections too.

But the Rin storyline? Yikes. I gather that this was added to Full Body and not in the original. I can't believe that's the storyline they chose to add to spice up the game. Atlus Japan had to have no idea how this would be received in the West. Right now I'm currently playing are Yakuza Kiwami 2 and Trails of Cold Steel 2 as well, so I'm very familiar with Japanese fanservice and all that, but I physically cringed when the Rin twist was revealed. Not even so much that I'm personally offended but like, why.

Huntdown and Spirits Abyss

I actually bought Huntdown twice, 2nd time I've done that. The other being OutRun 2.

I finally started up Pillars of Eternity after all these years. Loving it.

Also enjoying Pokemon Legends: Arceus on the Switch. Neat concept, could probably have been fleshed out more...but still fun.

I started playing Praey for the Gods, it's a game like Shadow of the Colossus where you fight giant bosses. I never played Shadow of the Colossus so I don't really know how it compares but I'm enjoying this one. Only two bosses in so far but it's pretty fun.

Easily my favorite CRPG since BG2. Just wish it was turn based. Still haven't tried the 2nd one.

Yeah I've heard the 2nd one is even better, and it has turn based as an option.

RTWP is something I got used to with Dragon Age and KOTOR, but I think I would choose turn based if given the option in PoE1.

As a UFC fan, I had to pick up UFC 4 as one of the free PS+ monthly games. It's meh.

In the striking, there is an overwhelming amount of moves. You have your basic left hand, right hand, left leg, right leg, but then they all do something different if you hold down one of the triggers or multiple triggers or if you move the right stick and then throw or if you hold them or if you hold them while also holding down a trigger or multiple triggers. Then you've also got to block high, block low, stuff takedowns. It's a lot. The stamina bar and opponents wrestling do make you try to avoid button mashing to a degree, though. Also have to worry about distance.

In the grappling, there is an underwhelming amount of moves. You basically press up, left, or right on the left stick to get up, try a submission, or ground and pound. Whether your fighter is better at grappling than the opponent basically determines if it works. There's more advanced controls, I think, but I think it is essentially the same, but you also have to use the right stick to say which position you are trying to get to. The submissions you either use the left stick or triggers to move your bar to cover/avoid your opponents bar. Whoever fills their counter up first determines whether the submission worked or not. Kind of lame, but to be fair, I don't know how you make grappling into a video game.

I kind of missed having a sports game to throw on to play a quick game or 2. Win or lose, who cares? So it's good for that, but I sure as hell wouldn't spend $60 on it.

Also, in the couple times I played it, it's crashed on me twice during a fight in offline career mode.

Have you played Disco Elysium? I'm not typically a CRPG guy but that one looks really interesting to me.
A little bit. I loved the premise and the quirkiness. I couldn't get into it though, it's was a weird thing to wrap my mind around not having a combat intensive CRPG. The politics were a little heavy handed as well. I'm well in the minority though, it's generally acclaimed by critics and Joe schmos like me!

I'm finishing up the Dark Souls 3 DLCs before Elden Ring comes out.

I really wanted to finish Dark Souls Remastered, but I don't think it'll be possible this year. From what I understand, my next 6-10 months will probably be only Elden Ring.

I recently finished the ME trilogy for the first time so decided to move onto Dragon Age inquisition. I tried to play it once before and wasn’t feeling it and stopped. This second time around I’m a lot more into it. Basically I’m just focusing only on the main story and any side quests that look fun and ignoring anything I feel is tedious like fetching stuff or collecting stuff. Also I’m just playing as my character and not switching and I don’t use the battle map.

I’m really digging it now having setup the game like that which is more tailored to how I want to play it. I’m maybe 20% into it is my guess. I also did the keep thing online and made choices to import the custom world over. That’s a cool feature.

Did you play thru the ME trilogy straight thru or play anything else in between?
I am about halfway thru the first game and contemplating whether to go straight thru or not
