Post-Game Talk: Game 5

I disagree. He also has a propensity of just skating to the side and taking a limpdicked wrister, or just waiting for his linemates to catch-up, which just draws the defensemen on him.

I don't think Laffy is that much faster than Panarin, but he hasn't shyed away from skating in between defensemen and taking it to the crease.
Yeah, the lack of courage hurts too.

Yep, and you can't dangle through double-teaming
He doesn't have a healthy Fox joining the rush to make that pass to him. Like you said tho you don't have time to dangle in the ECF like you do game 65 in the regular season.

As you get older (and if you learn your lessons) you become better at choosing your friends. I surely did and have no regrets. I also agree on the other things you say re. attitude towards sports, fandom etc. If one gets riled up so much to spit out vile personal insults toward hockey players there’s something wrong in their lives that needs to be looked at and dealt with.
Yep. A lot of shitty things about getting old but one of the things I've enjoyed is the ability to get high with the highs ( Rangers wins) but not let the lows get me too low (the inevitable losses).

It's not really our top guys they're shutting down. Panarin leads the universe in xG in this series. They certainly have their share of points.

You and I have a better chance of scoring a goal in game 6 than anybody on our third line.
Zibanejad and Kreider both are at 30%CF and 25%xG in the series. Sure the Panarin line has been much better, mostly because of Lafreniere and Trocheck. Who are the two guys who should stick around. But series after series Kreider and Zibanejad get f***ing wiped out when they have to play the other teams best players. How many times do we have to go through this? Is the depth good enough? No. But that is no excuse for having two guys get manhandled at the top of the lineup every postseason. I’m sick of it.

2012 2015 2022 2024

We lose then we find out everyone was hurt.

Whatever. It just sucks.. we aren't a joke or anything just can't get over the hump with the last two cores we've built.

This though is by far the best team we've had. Zib as our #1 totally out of his league but we get Trochek to step into that role but it's still not good enough.

f*** this sucks because we've got enough breaks to get there but we just can't

Must suck to be Drury. Facing 3 mountain-size tasks for the offseason now:
1) Find a real winger for the Soy Boys
2) Create a real bottom-six (see Florida for an example)
3) Find a real defensive defenseman

With like no cap space.

Wonder if any of the Wolf Pack studs will be given some slack after Sept camp. Need to develop the next core.
For #1, how bout splitting the BFFs up? If we bow out again, I think we can all agree that line has run its course. I'd love to see Kreider with Vinny for a full season. They've looked good in the short time we've seen them together.

lol at everyone gushing over Tkachuk who if he was on this team would be getting all kinds of garbage posted about him for only having 1 goal. i have barely even noticed him in this series.

He's been horrific in this series for a player of that cap hit.

Slow, not good with the puck, not a particularly good passer.

He's been BAD

BTW, if I ever hear about going full rebuild from the fans of the New York Rangers ever again I will lose my mind. You're just as likely to get a Kaapo Kakko as you are a Jack Hughes and this the Rangers you're more likely. We lucked out with the Laf pick but still imagine tanking and drafting Kakko again.
And teams like Buffalo and Ottawa have been full rebuild for a decade. Saying blow it up rebuild because you may lose to the eventual cup champs is just stupid. Drury is watching and he will evaluate what needs to be done. I think there will be significant changes especially on D and bottom D depth. Guys like Jones, Othmann, Berard, and maybe others will get their chance. I think Trouba and Kakko are goners also. It will be a busy summer for Drury.

This. As a forward you have three choices when you enter the zone with the puck. Go between the defenders, which requires balls. Go wide and around, which requires speed. Or go wide and curl back, when you have neither. Too many of our forwards including Mika and Panarin opt for three.

And you know why sports suck?

We can play our best game of the series in G6 and still loss. And it won't be something to hang out hats on because it doesn't matter

Ask their GM. I can’t tell you. Those were the rumors.

That’s an entire standard deviation.

I'm 200% certain that a package exists in the universe that is better than what they got from Carolina that also does not include Perreault.

A package also existed for Vatrano that wouldn't have killed us.

Drury didn't want to pay it.

And you see the result

Brodzinski is not even good enough to drive a Mazda Zamboni for many people here.
yea he is fine in limited time imo. Rempe is just a walking penalty and a gimmick Edstrom could actually be a decent 4th liner. Should have spent the regular season developing him for next year

There was a post that I'm pretty sure was serious about trading everyone not named Lafreniere. That included Adam friggin Fox and as mad as I am at him and kind of doubting him now, it also included Shesterkin. Let's become the Sharks and get a bunch of Kakkos or on the high end maybe we can get an RNH or Taylor Hall level player.

Trocheck gets his points from every which way. He carries the puck, gets in the tough areas, deflects pucks, scores from the bumper position. Zibanejad's bag of tricks is not as deep. He gets his on the one timer, off the rush, feeding Kreider to do his net front thing, gets shorthanded points, though Trocheck has this department covered as well.
Mika did all of that until this season. I dont know what affected him having this down season, maybe the baby.

Point is, once again, he still managed to equal Trochecks career year in points in his worst season as a Ranger.

Serious question, where will the Rangers find a another center who produces PPG in both regular season and the playoffs for the same cost as Mika?

No need to rebuild. We can fairly easily reload in July 2025. That offseason we move Trouba, Kreider, Goodrow, Kakko and we go after draisaitl and rantenen.

Laff-Draisaitl-Perreault
Panarin-Trocheck-Rantennen
Cuylle-Mika-Chytil
Othmann-Rempe-Edstrom
13th vet at league min

Kandre-Fox
Jones-Schneider
Lindy-bottom pair RD
7th D at league min

Igor
Backup

And yes, this is cap compliant

I've said enough. I'd like the organization to give Kakko a mandate to get faster this summer. He can hang out with Rantanen and work out but his skating and eye-hand coordination drills need to be prioritized. And for Chytil to continue healing and get back on track.
