Post-Game Talk: Game 5

The biggest impact is from Fox being way less than 100%. That alone would have made all the necessary difference
Agreed, but the main issue has been pure lack of offense as of late. I get that our defenders are banged up, but our forwards are MIA.

I maintain we win the Cup with him. This is going to be Drury’s biggest regret as a manager. In fact, if he ever writes a memoir one day, I’d guarantee this comes up in it if the team loses next game.

Why he refuses to get Laffy out there for 20+ minutes & give him PP1 time is baffling. It's not like the PP is lighting it up, it clearly could use a jolt.

Plus he never makes in game adjustments....Trouba & Gus should've played 10 mins max tonight.

He had a good regular season, but he's been a Gallant clone this postseason.

Lavi is Gallant with +15 IQ points.

Boyle pretty much made it clear in the post game what he thought when he mentioned how the Tkachuk acquisition changed the entire mentality of the Florida team. Mika is the complete opposite of what Tkachuk brings. Panarin as well to some extent.
Sounds like BS to me. Replacing a playoff choker with a hard nosed 100 pt player would turn any franchise around

You can be slower but bigger, or smaller but faster. The problem is the Rangers are both slower and smaller.
Are they really that small? They do have some young guys coming who have size and speed and a guy in Berard who has speed and plays like he has size.

Must suck to be Drury. Facing 3 mountain-size tasks for the offseason now:
1) Find a real winger for the Soy Boys
2) Create a real bottom-six (see Florida for an example)
3) Find a real defensive defenseman

With like no cap space.

Wonder if any of the Wolf Pack studs will be given some slack after Sept camp. Need to develop the next core.

After last year with the shouting match between Drury and Gallant I don’t see Drury not placing his stamp on game 6.
We’ll see what the lineup looks like on Saturday.

We hammer on Kakko for his lack of speed but Panarin is a slow player and that hurts him in these tightly checked games. His first step is terrible and he has no explosiveness for separation.

I disagree. He also has a propensity of just skating to the side and taking a limpdicked wrister, or just waiting for his linemates to catch-up, which just draws the defensemen on him.

I don't think Laffy is that much faster than Panarin, but he hasn't shyed away from skating in between defensemen and taking it to the crease.

Drury wasn’t going to empty his trade capital on the team that looked pretty underwhelming at the time and after what he did at the past two deadlines.
Fair enough.

Now we know this team made a bit of a run despite having a million holes and their best D being hurt.

I think they've earned some investment this summer.

They literally traded a 100 pt player in Huberdeau who was soft and played the soft style Mika plays. It's not just the points its the mentality and style of play.

Bingo. That's the elephant in the room....Another big game, another no show. Sigh...

He had the Carolina series and that was cool.

But all I heard about his playoff performances was that his line mates were bad and that he can't be expected to carry the load on his own.

Now his line mates have been good and he's clearly been the 3rd best player on that line.

I think I’ve jumped from the “Let’s keep Kakko since he’s more valuable here” train to “I’d take a second or two thirds for him” train.

Useless player.
I want more and he should bring more - 2OA, didn’t get opportunity, change of scenery yada yada yada

But look at Tro's linemates: career year for Laffy, career year for Panarin. Tro played a big part, and it's also why he's relegated to winning faceoffs on the PP.

Zibs and Kreider were awful, and both were responsible for there being a merry-go-round for the 3rd man on that line.

Tro has shown he can be versatile in the playoffs. Zibs...enough said....

Kreider has a career year every year playing with Mika. Also, Mika is a PPG+ player in the playoffs since joining the Rangers. You cant be a playoff fraud and put up points at the same time. That narrative has to die.

Does he have a bad series right now, yes but without him we dont get by the Canes. Imagine if Panarin could show up and pick up the slack but no, this team is dead in the water if Mika goes cold.

We're basically done at this point.

-Play Jones next game
-Laf to PP1
-Bench Trouba
-Try Edstrom/Berard on the 4th line in the hopes that one of them provides a flukey momentum gain
