Post-Game Talk: Game 4

Substitute Kakko for Roslovic in your statement and it fully applies (if you also change speed for board work).
I like your sarcasm, but you're blind if you think Roslovic is a better fit against this team. At least Kakko holds on to the puck and is heavier on the puck than Roslovic, who seems allergic to contact in any zone.

But WHY does this happen year after year?
Just my opinion but I think it happens because:

1 - In the early stages of the series, the team stops skating once they get a lead and spend the rest of the game on their heels defending - which is WAY more tiring than going on the attack.

2 - After doing this for 3 or 4 games in a row, they are exhausted and can't skate anymore (after a period or so). We saw it last night - great first and the next 2 periods almost the entire team looked like they were skating in mud because they spent the majority of the past 3 games in their own end.

Basically "I don't wanna" becomes "I can't."

Your plan is to sic our most inexperienced and limited player on one of the best players in the entire world. There's quite a few adjustments in between where the team is today and where you are in la la land.
My plan, no.Two Hockey Hall of Fame coaches Scotty Bowman and Roger Nielson’s plan.
Also go back and reread my original post. I posted “should consider”
Winning Coaches plan strategies for games with the players they have, not strategies for games with players they wish they have.
Three games left. It’s going to take the collective knowledge of Laviolette, his staff and Drury to come up with a plan to win two of those three games.
Rolling out the same battle plan against the same group will probably lead to an ECF exit.
Also your “la la land” remark has really made me question your ability to carry on an adult conversation where opinions are exchanged for the betterment of the board.
If you reply it will be for your benefit, I won’t bite.

#1 is such a problem. Get a 4-2 lead in G3 after 2 and got their doors blown off in the third. Get a 1-0 lead after the 1st in G4 and then proceed to get their doors blown off again because they're so set on just trying to "lock down" and they just chase the opponent nonstop. Carolina? Up 1-0 after 2 and then Carolina just blows their doors off in the 3rd. They do such a shitty job of matching their opponent's intensity once they grab that lead. How many times does this team immediately give up a goal after they score? It just makes you shake your head. They get a lead then simply react to whatever their opponent does instead of doing what got them the lead in the first place.

@Rick Chartraw

Once again, apologies Rick. Very good player but “elite “ would be a stretch.

Point a game and setting up the most scoring chances? Not in this series, and this series is what we are discussing. I thought Pan looked okay in the first period last night (so did Mika, and it got my hopes up). He has two secondary assists and one primary assist in this series. He's not creating the chances. Laf and Trocheck are. He's not finishing, Laf and Troch are. He's not paying the physical price or making Panthers pay it, Laf and Troch are.
Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying he's been MIKA in this series, but he's gone from about 1.5 ppg reg season to 0.75ppg in this series. Laf and Troch have raised their games, Panarin has done the opposite.
Hey, if you are satisfied with Panarin's game and don't expect MORE out of him, I'm happy for you, but don't expect the rest of us to be satisfied or withhold criticism though. If he continues to underwhelm, I'll continue to comment on it.
Note: I'm not one of the "Panarin sucks crowd." I just feel he honestly is not performing well in this series, despite his linemates playing great.

You are allowed to feel and think whatever you want, damn the statistics.

I missed the pre-game... was Chytil scratched for health reasons or was he just inexplicably scratched? Because Wheeler over Chytil is insane. I don't care if it's because of the role or not... if that means Cuylle, Kakko, Wennberg get pushed to the 4th line then so be it. If he's healthy to play I have zero idea why he was scratched. Thats moronic if he's not hurt/sick

Load management was the reason given.

He also hasn’t played well since returning. It’s a lot to ask of someone who hadn’t played a game in 6 months.

Lavi wanted to give him a game off since he's played a few consecutive games after a long time off. I don't think Chytil would have made a difference last night. I also think Wheeler played well in his role on that 4th line.

I'm old enough to remember that finals series, especially since I live in Montreal...hahaha.
We won the first game 4-1 and looked like we were on our way to winning the cup.

Yes, Chartraw was used as a D/LW all year by the Habs, but you forget to mention that he was on a line with Bob Gainey (HHOF) and Doug Jarvis (One of the best defensive forwards of his generation).

Regardless, I understand what your saying, everything should be considered at this point.
Personally, playing at home we should take Mika away from the Barkov line and have Goodrow playing against him.
I remember 2 years ago when we played the Penguins, he had the task of playing against the Crosby line and focused solely on defending him that it took away all his offensive creativity. Once Crosby went down injured he flourished offensively.
I think the same can happen in this series.

It's interesting that you get bothered by me saying "la la land" after you, in your last response to me refer to my "crystal ball."

Look, we both want this team to succeed. I just don't really think it's worth discussing things that don't have a chance of happening.

I disagree with you in that putting Rempe on with Barkov every shift would be a good strategy. But even if you were right, the reality is, it'll never happen. There's a 0% chance.
