No way do I scratch Kakko. Only change I would do up front is put Chytil back in on the third line and sit Roslovic. Roslovic provides nothing to the team, except "some" speed which he doesn't use to his advantage. Doesn't hit, forecheck or backcheck, useless player that excelled against the Caps and had some flashes in the Carolina series.
Substitute Kakko for Roslovic in your statement and it fully applies (if you also change speed for board work).

In the 1978/79 Stanley Cup finals the Rangers took the first game of the series against the Montreal Canadiens. Three major events took place that turned that series.
1) Several of the Rangers players went out partying till all hours and were not game ready for game 2.
2) in warmups before game 2 Canadiens goalie Bunny Larocque got injured and Ken Dryden went in and was lights out.
3) in game 2 Canadien’s Coach Scotty Bowmen placed defenseman Rick Chartraw as a forward and he shadowed Phil Esposito for the remainder of the series basically shutting down Esposito.

Laviolette should consider playing Matt Rempe and have him shadow Aleksander Barkov. Wherever Barkov goes, Rempe goes. No other assignment for Matt except to be in Aleksanders face from face off circle to his bench.

What makes you think Rempe can keep up with him?

Do you want him to wave his stick in front of his face like Avery did to Fatso too?

Heres a stat -

Panarin was 9th in the league in SOG this year. Led the Rangers by 56 SOG.

In the playoffs? He's 4th on the Rangers (Kreider who was #2 during the RS on the NYR is sitting at 5th.)

Both guys need to shoot more. I think Panarin has been the best of the big 3 in this round so far but I also wonder how much of that is because his play is being masked by his line mates being good.

It was similar in carolina.

Yet mollie, or larry or vince want to ask Lav the hard question. Or write an article pointing out how he is costing us this season.

Or the fact that the best stretch of the season was when he was injured.

Its incomprehensible why this is not being talked about.

They probably think he's good. Muh big, much grit!

Panarin has never been capable of making space for himself against a committed defender. His jukes give him a half stride at distance, but he simply cannot work himself away from man-on-man at close range by himself.

During the regular season, checking is less tight. The teams are of lower average quality. A healthy Adam Fox, who is capable of creating seperation, combined with Panarin for a lot of plays.

But the only way to get Panarin the space in the playoffs he needs to be successful is for the other 4 guys on gthe ice to do it for him. To be dangerous in their own right.

Panarin simply isn't a player who can take over a close game by himself. He's one of the best in the world when he has space, but he's just another guy when there's someone on top of him

Because Barkov is an elite player while Rempe is a 4th liner
Esposito was an elite player and Rick Chartraw was not (no offense Rick)
Mario Lemieux was an Elite player Jan Erixon was not. Lemieux would constantly take penalties against Erixon and even took a major once out of frustration.
Chartraw was a defenseman.
Erixon was a third/fourth liner.

If we can get back to playing more like Games 1 and 2 rather than Games 3 and 4, we can pull this off. I don't think we were perfect by any means in Games 1 and 2, but I thought we played better than in Games 3 and 4. Just felt like Florida had more high danger chances in Games 3 and 4 than they did in Games 1 and 2. Wonder what the advanced stats say though.

Yikes. No. Much better in games 3/4 IMO.
