he's not wrong, all of our shots on the PP were going right into our own guys. If we go into the 3rd up 3-1 it's a completely different game.
When you ice a lineup that struggles to score 5 on 5 you must at least score one on the pp. these other teams can get away with not scoring on the powerplay cause they have multiple game breakers which unfortunately with the canes and the injuries they just don’t have much other then aho and necas

Hiring an actual PP coach would be a good start, but he's adamant that we don't need one
It cannot be all of the things. You said Aho isn’t good enough, and there are talent problems no one wants to talk about, and then you blame the PP coach.

It’s one of the other. There are no magic plays in a hockey PP. All the teams that have great PP’s have 2 guys who are elite no matter what situation. The biggest miss this FO ever had was not getting Pavelski. I think he was always going to no income tax Dallas but he’s the piece they are desperately missing. Noesen has been well above expectations in that spot, but he’s far from elite.

Well patches would of helped and Svech is at least a threat on the pp with his shot

Why can't it be both? Our powerplay has sucked even with better players. Aho not playing well enough and the powerplay coaching sucking are not mutually exclusive things. I don't know how anyone could think it's just a black and white issue. Is the answer getting rid of Aho? No. But him playing better, providing him with better players and coaches should all be on the table.

Yea I get it. Just can’t expect him to carry 2 guys who are playing above where they should be. Maybe the front office thought Jarvis would have a better year but he’s in a sophomore slump. Pretty foolish of them to expect a ton from him tho given it’s only his second season so that’s on them

I will coach the PP, I mean I can't do any worse right?

I read the Canes didnt make a move at the trade deadline for a big time player because they didnt want to give up good prospects.. well how come they dont play those prospects if they are good players? I dont understand that situation if someone can explain it.

Last summer, DW said he offered to get more coaching help but RBA declined stating he wanted to keep the coaching team small with the current personnel. At some point, wouldn't you want to...or have to..be open to new and fresh ideas and perspectives on what you may be missing strategically? Someone who could help the team to overcome a barrier or succeed even more? The players are expected to seek additional help or specialists for perceived weaknesses...

The good prospects are either in Russia or are Jarvis and Drury who are currently playing on the top line.

If they knew Jarvis was going to fall off a cliff after the trade deadline they probably would’ve traded him, but he was on a heater at the time.

Ponomarev and Rees are here and wouldn’t sleep on Suzuki either all 3 have nhl potential and at least 2 of them should be full time players next season

My guess is Rod doesn’t wanna teach them the system this late in the season as games mean too much but idk id throw Rees ponomarev or Suzuki in they can’t be worse then Stepan or pulju

I think all of the ones you mention were up for grabs for Meier, or a similar player. Drury might have been too, but Jarvis and Nikishin were off the table.

Thanks for the replies. Personally I wish they would have went after the guy that signed with the Rangers. Tarasenko.. I liked him when he was with the Blues.. maybe not elite but a cool hockey name.

He would have been a great fit. The Rangers jumped on him early and there was some talk that he would only waive his no trade clause for them. Who knows how much of that is true.

I think I read on other threads folks discussing Freddie Anderson and the disappointment in his play.. my question is unless Ranta gets hurt have we seen the last of Anderson in a Canes uniform?
