Only around 20 rinks in Denmark, and many of those in the same cities. Soccer and handball dominates team sports.
I think we have 4... maybe 5 here in all of NZ. I think our team tends to bounce from Tier 2 to Tier 3. But hockey takes a fair bit of infrastructure unlike other some other sports, soccer an open space and some cones can suffice, where with hockey you need, ice and decent enough ice, and unlike say basketball courts, an ice rink can really only be used as an ice rink. So it's so much more specialized for lack of a better word in terms of where and how you can grow the sport.

There’s really nothing you can take from this game, Denmark’s team wouldn’t beat Major Junior teams on a consistent basis let alone compete with a team full of mostly 1st/2nd round picks. Denmark has 2 guys that are drafted and only 1 more that might get drafted in Sogaard. There’s no take aways from this game.

Denmark has done a fantastic job of producing talent though, for a non-traditional hockey market they’re constantly churning out some legit NHL prospects each season. It’s great to see, I hope they keep churning out talent and staying in the top division and every once and a while, when the stars align, they’re able to make it to the QF and possibly give a team a game like a few years back.

I can't believe no one has addressed the fact that Canada DID bench their stars. They did run their lower lines heavily. Bouchard had 13 minutes. Comtois had 13 minutes. Glass had about 12.5. Tippett had 13.7. Then Frost got hot so he got less ice time than his linemates. Hockey isn't like basketball, you can't just sit a whole line for two periods, but whenever someone got hot, they got benched shortly after. So it's not as though they could have been more sportsmanlike because they were always playing the cold hand, and the cold hand would just get hot.

Honestly surprised we went all out for 60 mins. I enjoyed it though. We’ve usually taken our foot off the pedal during a blowout vs weaker countries, only to be overwhelmed in our first match up with a strong country.

Just saw that brutal dive from Comtois. I'm a ducks fan but that shit is embarrassing. He'd better lose that habit because I hate when our players embellish. Last thing I want is our team to become like nashville and make diving apart of their game strategy.

There is no resting your stars with team Canada. Everyone is a star relative to the other players on opposing teams.

Maybe you could do a little digging and figure out why goals and scores actually matter in this tournament.

Yeah like Team Canada is going to have even slightest bit of trouble getting out of the group stage. Come on man. I don't need to see this scoreline in WJC esp if it's Canada/US/Russia/Sweden/Finland dunking on a minnow.

Goal differential is a thing. Unless the tournament changes where the game ends after being up by 10.. mercy rule (never happening) then none of you “run up the scorer arguments” have the right to complain.

I repeat goal differential counts
Goal differential only matters if the two teams are tied in points. Canada scoring 14 against Denmark will have no impact on where Canada places.

14-0? 0_O

Very atypically Canadian. Deduct 4-6 goals and you get more typical result, as it is traditionally frowned upon to "humiliate" opponent by scoring too many excess-goals.

When we talk about "tiers" in hockey, this is just a case example what that mean.

Did Team Canada play this game to the end or did they brake it down at the end? (Not seen this game, prolly not gonna watch it either)

Then why didn't we pull the goalie? They weren't going to enter the offensives zone for the entire third period.

Because that would be insulting and would be embarrassing for Denmark. When playing sports at a high level it’s more of an insult to toy with an opponent and make it obvious you aren’t trying. Judging by your posts it seems obvious you have either never played sports and lost at a high level or had a bad experience as a child with losing and are projecting that.

Canada definitely took their foot off the gas in the 3rd. If they were really trying to score they could have had 20 in the game.

That's a very arbitrary and convenient cutoff year to use.

If you think that the entire decade, which we are 9 years into is an "arbitrary" cutoff then ok.

And I'm not saying they've caught Canada, in fact Canada has had its most dominant run in history at best on best international play over the last decade. Just pointing out the original comment was childish and innacurate.

If so 10 is the limit for being a kid?

These kids play junior, or go to school or play in second or third rate leagues. They are not pros.

But maybe by running up the score we might get some of these Danish kids to simply quit and then its like the woman's game light.

That's what people are clamoring to see, games that are settled before the puck is dropped.

I'm just a little sad that as the Canadian players kept scoring and scoring that their idiot coach didn't take a time out so that the players could crotch chop the Danish bench. Or get dipietro to play backwards, carey price style.

Or hell since they couldn't even gain the zone we should have pulled the goalie up 14 becuase, again, hurr durrr goal differential.

Thanks but no.

Maybe you should watch less competitive sports if you don’t like watching the world juniors.

The players don’t decide the rules of the tournament and they don’t decide the teams they play against. It’s not professional or good sportsmanship to play at a level that is meant to insult the opponent as you are suggesting.

Also Canada did let up. They could have scored 20-25 goals if they wanted to in that game.

I'd rather see the tournament allow countries to try to qualify a B team over letting Denmark and Kazakhstan get blasted like the 14-0 result last night. That's just embarrassing for the sport. Canada B vs Czech Rep. and Sweden B vs Slovakia is vastly better than Canada v Denmark.

Let teams 9-10, play in a pre tournament vs Canada B, Sweden B, USA B, Russia B, etc.

If Denmark belongs in they'll beat out those teams.
