I would rather see top eight of the tournament qualify directly and then have a qualification for last two spots - using only players who are eligible for this tournament.

Personally I thought this game's score was a total embarrassment to real Canadian hockey fans. Denmark's 6'7"goalie gets high sticked in the chin when the game is 7 zip and the fans boo the ref? If a team has enough skill to compete with the real contenders they shouldn't have to worry about goal differential. Show some respect to your opponent. Also give up the Canada deserve every gold metal. There are other countries with great hockey programs in this day and age. As a Canadian I want them to do well but also show some sportsmanship.

What we need to do to fix this tournament is to split up 2 groups featuring Canada, Russia, Finland, Sweden, USA and Czech Republic and then the other 2 teams will be Team North America featuring the best 13-15 year olds and Team World featuring all the best players from Africa, Asia, South America and other European countries. :sarcasm:

I didn't see this game, but it had to be similar to a pack of jackals ripping apart the carcass of a dead wildebeest! A feeding frenzy that drove the Canadian fans wild with lust and bravado! And now, given the fact that this tournament has been permanently located in Canada, the IIHF is discussing the prospect of renaming it the Canada Cup, since that title is no longer taken. You are correct in saying that there are other great hockey programs in the world, but there is no chance that any of them can win a Gold Medal on Canadian soil. They can go ahead and finish playing the games, but the Gold Medal could just as easily be awarded to Canada today. No other country in the world has similar wealth to devote to hockey, and Rene Faisel has 47 yachts parked on the Mediterranean thanks to Hockey Canada and the TSN network. Money is now the only consideration in this tournament, and although I will watch some games just to see the new talent, it would be okay with me if they cancelled this tournament altogether.

Nobody has dominated the World Juniors this decade is actually the correct answer.
in the last ten years, Canada 4 gold 3 silvers and a bronze. I'd call that domination. Imagine an NHL team winning 4 cups and being in the final 7 times in 10 years.
or 7 golds, 5 silvers and a bronze in the last 15 years. What do people want 10 straight? LOL

Wow that’s embarrassing, this tournament is an overrated Tsn joke.

How is the tournament overrated because one of the weak teams got blown out? This happens literally every year. There are 6 strong teams, 2 decent teams and then a revolving door of teams who get relegated and promoted. It is what it is. Maybe back when Canada was winning every year you could say it’s a joke but other nations have caught up in their development and the level of competition is much greater.

The nhl has three times as many teams so it’s not really comparable.

In the NHL a team plays best of seven. So one bad result or one team playing out of their minds for one game can not eleminate the better team. If these games were best of sevens Canada would have won 90% of the Golds. There may have been one or 2 years we had a poor crop of players, or maybe the kids were so good those years they were already NHL regulars.

JFC, you want them to apologize for scoring and change the rules so nobodies feelings get hurt, how stereotypically Canadian of you. We should also stop striving for Gold and sit back to appreciate these other nations strong hockey programs, lol.

Real Canadian hockey fans? now what would you know about that.

See your a Leaf fan:naughty: Won a bunch of cups in the last 50 years? Guess I will give you this oneo_O JFC? Juicy Fried Chicken? Just hope to see some better competition as this tourney moves along. After 40 or so years as a fan in the OHL I hate to see blow outs when the opposing team is from a weaker program.

Canada definitely took their foot off the gas in the 3rd. If they were really trying to score they could have had 20 in the game.
In previous years it definitely feels like we stopped trying as much after 7 or 8.
14 reminds me of the “It’s not worth winning if you can’t win big!” mentatlity lol.

could you imagine being a danish kid playing junior and being tossed into that ring against all future NHLers in a country you've probably never been to, in front of 20 some thousand people? YIKES.

It sucks seeing a blowout like this, but unfortunately there aren't 10 top hockey nations at the junior level. You wouldn't see a game like this with pro players.

The way I see the countries in this tournament is like this:

Contenders:
Canada
USA
Russia
Sweden
Finland
Czech Republic

Solid teams:
Switzerland
Slovakia

Relegation bound/Tweeners:
Denmark
Kazakhstan
Latvia
Germany
Belarus
Austria
Norway

You can generally tell where these countries rank based on the number of NHL prospects they have on their rosters. Tweeners have 0-3, solid teams have 5-6, contenders have 10+.

You dont have to enter the zone to score a goal?
Yeah with puck possession numbers like that, having a defenseman join the play on the offensive play and play goalies for desperate 180 foot shot attempts would be a terrible calamity,

keep watching Junior hockey then softy, once these kids jump into the World Juniors they are going to treated like professionals based on fan fare and media. Don't like it? Don't watch.

Yeah like Team Canada is going to have even slightest bit of trouble getting out of the group stage. Come on man. I don't need to see this scoreline in WJC esp if it's Canada/US/Russia/Sweden/Finland dunking on a minnow.

What do you expect them to do? They barely played in the last 10 minutes and still scored 3

I'd rather see the tournament allow countries to try to qualify a B team over letting Denmark and Kazakhstan get blasted like the 14-0 result last night. That's just embarrassing for the sport. Canada B vs Czech Rep. and Sweden B vs Slovakia is vastly better than Canada v Denmark.

Let teams 9-10, play in a pre tournament vs Canada B, Sweden B, USA B, Russia B, etc.

If Denmark belongs in they'll beat out those teams.
Denmark is in it's 5th consecutive tournament, and has placed 5th during that time. They qualified last year by beating Belarus twice last year - what are we to do, tell them all the sudden they don't belong? Stupid comment. Nobody wants a "Canada B" or "Sweden B".

Hopefully they will absolutely dominate all tournament long this year and set the stage for another long run of Gold....it would be fun to see some of the posters on here come up with more convenient excuses and stats lol...

I thought they did try and limit the damage. Sat some players on the bench, stopped skating and really didn't throw a hit in anger. What else can they do. You still have to play the game the way it is supposed to be played.

For a player nothing shows you up more than the stronger team making it obvious that they are far superior. Let's not shoot on the net, let's not take the puck over the other teams blue line etc. in a game that is out of hand. I find that just plain insulting.

Okay Stegall. You are the man. Little off course but that's fine. Jet's fan? Okay. Exciting hockey. Most of these kids probably won't make pro so it's a treat for them to say they played for Canada.

I think what is missed here, by many people, is that they probably loved every minute of it. These kids are not stupid, they know they're going to get beat, and beat by many goals, but do you honestly think they'd trade any of it? No chance.

Think of yourself, if you're a really good soccer player, would you dread playing Italy, because you're going to get beat by 10? I know I wouldn't. I would get out there, play as hard as I can, and go home after and tell everyone that I played soccer against Team Italy. Did I get throttled? Yep, sure as hell did, but it was great. I was out there against the best players in the world.

The kids that get pissed when they lose are not the ones that are heavily outmatched. Not the ones that know they have no chance of winning, and lose badly. It's the ones that DO have a chance, but lose. The kids from Russia, Sweden, and the US, when they lose, they feel it. My guess is the kids from Denmark are having almost as much fun over the next two weeks as the team that wins the gold medal. this isn't a dreadful experience for them. It's one of the most thrilling experiences of their lives.
