Personally I thought this game's score was a total embarrassment to real Canadian hockey fans. Denmark's 6'7"goalie gets high sticked in the chin when the game is 7 zip and the fans boo the ref? If a team has enough skill to compete with the real contenders they shouldn't have to worry about goal differential. Show some respect to your opponent. Also give up the Canada deserve every gold metal. There are other countries with great hockey programs in this day and age. As a Canadian I want them to do well but also show some sportsmanship.
I am also embarrased by the 14 goals. There is a time to stop, and it was before hitting double digits. I get the goal differential thing but try and show some respect to your opponent. Bad karma and bad habits coming for team Canada.

I think what is missed here, by many people, is that they probably loved every minute of it. These kids are not stupid, they know they're going to get beat, and beat by many goals, but do you honestly think they'd trade any of it? No chance.

Think of yourself, if you're a really good soccer player, would you dread playing Italy, because you're going to get beat by 10? I know I wouldn't. I would get out there, play as hard as I can, and go home after and tell everyone that I played soccer against Team Italy. Did I get throttled? Yep, sure as hell did, but it was great. I was out there against the best players in the world.

The kids that get pissed when they lose are not the ones that are heavily outmatched. Not the ones that know they have no chance of winning, and lose badly. It's the ones that DO have a chance, but lose. The kids from Russia, Sweden, and the US, when they lose, they feel it. My guess is the kids from Denmark are having almost as much fun over the next two weeks as the team that wins the gold medal. this isn't a dreadful experience for them. It's one of the most thrilling experiences of their lives.

Do you actually believe this is how they feel? You've obviously never been throttled in a competitive sport.

Okay Stegall. You are the man. Little off course but that's fine. Jet's fan? Okay. Exciting hockey. Most of these kids probably won't make pro so it's a treat for them to say they played for Canada.
yeah so you want them to take the foot off the pedal in maybe their only chance to represent Canada? Get real.

Sure I have, and yes, at some reasonably high levels (provincial championship level). And yes, I can honestly say that if I was enormously outmatched, and knew so, I wouldn't be too pissed about it. You play the game as hard as you can, and let the chips fall where they may.

I don't mind losing to a better team. It just means you gotta do what you can to improve. It pisses me off far more to lose a game that I know I could have won.

The worst is when I know the other team stopped trying and have to play the rest with them laughing and joking around.

I don't think you do get the goal differential thing. IMO anytime Canada is playing a team that is not Russia, USA, Sweden, Finland, Czech's or Slovakia I don't watch because it is boring. When Canada is playing Belarus or Norway etc, I am not wasting 2-3 hours.

Are they supposed to just quit playing and let Denmark score against them?

That’s even more disrespectful to the spirit of competition and both teams.

Yes, I have seen that before too. And that I actually find rather disgusting.

When I was in high school, our senior football team got pretty close to the city championship game. They ended up playing a game against a high school that had a long history of being one of the best. They were also known for playing overage players (who knows if that was just rumour or not). They were beating our school's team by about 50 or 60 points, and in the fourth quarter, they started coming to the line of scrimmage, and their linemen started lining up backwards (i.e. facing their own quarterback). They thought it was a big joke.

I don't know if they thought they were being funny, but they came across as real d*&^ebags. And then they got ruined themselves in the next game.

Smith has looked really good; granted its been one sided, but he has been moving really well, making plays ... hope he keeps it up
Was he that bad in the 2nd and 3rd games for Hunter to rank Phillips and Brook ahead of him. Re-watching this game he looks fantastic at zone exits, holding the line and offensive zone distribution.

No thats not what I said, but they didnt need to pour it on the way they did. You can still play the right way without running up the score.

Doesn't make sense to me other than he put the 19 y/os ahead of the 18 y/os. If Smith continues his play from last night he will be very important to this team's D corps.

Are they just supposed to not ever shoot the puck? Get to center and dump it in? They did play the right way, they let up and were not firing one timers or going for the pretty goals.

They literally scored on weak pucks at the net. They weren't pouring it on by any means. I feel you may not have watched the game.

Yeah I watched it thanks. I feel like you may have never played the game if you dont know the difference. So to each their own.

You play the game to play it. It was 10-0 with 13 minutes left in the period... You can't spend a third period not doing anything

time to go back to the old format 6 teams only, play everybody in a round robin then top 4 play semis and winners final losers bronze. canada Russia, chechs, finland Sweden usa

Ummm who's dominated world juniors this decade? Hint - not Canada.

Ugh stupid crap like this should be ignored but I just cannot help it.

1. I am talking ALL of hockey, both recent and historically in term.

2. No Canadian is thinking the tournament is won because they beat Denmark, no matter how badly you want it to be true to push your ridiculous narrative.

3. You choose "who dominated the last decade of the WJHC"

Ok, I'm going to look at 2009- 2018 for Canada(I can see why you would want to keep out the previous 4 straight years of Gold for Canada but whatever, that is what someone like you needs to do):

Gold: 2009;2015,2018

Silver: 2010;2011; 2017

In the Gold medal game over half the years, and won it 3 times, in a period coming off winning it the previous 4 years in a row.

Sweden has been in it 6 times in that period, 1 gold, 5 silver, lost to Canada twice and never beat them.

Not sure who you think is "dominating".

If I was you I'd probably hate Canada too, but don't pretend you give two squirts about the feelings of these kids from Denmark.

Goal differential is what it is and because of that it’s necessary to pound on teams that will also be pounded on by the Russians. Do I like it? Not really....but it’s necessary.

Besides......EVERY country in the hockey world would HAPPILY pound on us by 14 goals if they could.
