It is interesting to see the lack of teams that do have 2 legit top-6 Cs, especially with the league considering expansion to 34 teams. Seems like there's a lot less quality centers these days.

And.. He'd have two of Necas, Nuke, Drouin, or Lehhky.

No 2C on this team is going to be in a position to fail.

Mitts just does not play the kind of hockey Bednar wants to get the minutes it seems. Zacha does.

I mean... Pastrnak is at least a tier ahead of all those guys if not multiple tiers...

Center depth is at a premium, only 11 teams have a clearly better situation at center and it is concerning ax those are the teams we have to go through. Not sure how much of a chance we had at them but a few were available the last few years and definitely puts the Kadri situation in perspective of not having a good plan there.

Top six centers are very hard to come by via trade. To get one you're going to need to let go of a big piece like Rantanen or Byram.

I really liked Hayton before his draft year and I think what happened is that it is just really hard to be an NHL centre in this league, especially a top 6 one at that like he's being asked to do. He's not a bust, but he is very meh like Great Value vanilla...but that's what Mittelstadt is turning into at this point as well.

I mean Geekie isn't great. But going from Pasta, a top 10 player in the NHL to Nuke(who's as unreliable as it gets) and Drouin is a gigantic step down from Pasta. It'd work better than what we have with Mitts... I think? But Zacha has always been a 35pt guy until he played with one of the best players in the entire league. Doesn't fill me with confidence.

He also has Michael Carcone as one of his wingers.

Here, he’d have Nichushkin and Drouin.

He would in theory, but Drouin and Nichushkin both have availability issues. They've only appeared in the same game together (5) times this season.

If Zacha is stuck with Colton or Parssinen, can he produce? That would be my worry. Pasta is on pace for 40 goals and 95+ points and Zacha's numbers are chalk with Mittelstadt's.

In a vacuum I'd rather have Zacha, but I'd also have concerns if he was CMac's target.

My issue is that Mittelstadt probably has a bit higher value based on name and trade selection alone. Would we really want to do a 1-for-1 for Hayton or add more to Mittelstadt and get somebody better? I know we don't have a ton of pieces to work with, but I would risk it and trade more value to get somebody back who is a legit #2C that fits with our team. Now that doesn't mean Zegras or anybody else who is a wildcard, but there are players out there. I mean, if our GM could have done a Mikko for Necas trade, there are people willing to give up some prime pieces too.
 
The avs need a play driving 2C.

That doesn’t mean he needs to be MacKinnon, but the player needs to be the one who can create for his wingers.
It cannot be that the wingers are needed to create for the 2C
 
I haven't watched Hayton this year but the numbers look really strong. Why would Utah move him? Is that the rumour?

The only prayer for that level of center is Crosby, Kadri or Pettersson lol.

Unless you're talking about the difference between Colton and Drury at center?

Maybe we should just keep Mitts and introduce him to a Crossroads demon.

I don’t really know who’s available. I’d assume that if the Avs want to shake a real quality 2C loose, they will have to table quality assets, and that likely means Ritchie.

But guys like Zacha, that’s gonna end the same way as Mitts. Simply not good enough.

We've literally just seen a good long list of NHL centers posted both equal to and better than Mitts.

Which ones would you like to see them pry lose?

Kadri maybe if you just dump the farm in their lap along with Mitts, but they're literally 1 point out with a game in hand.
