I think one thing we need to realize as a fanbase before puck drop is that the series will not be won or lost at the conclusion of tonight's game. Regardless of outcome. People seem to forget that we got absolutely waxed in game 2 and game 4 last year and we still had 2 attempts to close out the series. It just happens from time to time.

Of course we want our boys to go 16-0-0 in the playoffs and play with heart and passion each game, but that is not reality either. Sure, in contrast a game like we saw on Tuesday is also not acceptable in any circumstance. Ultimately I am going to be looking for a more assertive and purposeful 60 minutes. If they can get back to doing that on a consistent basis, the results should come in time. Even if not for tonight.

As much as we want to say this is a do or die game, it really isn't. That said, it would really help our chances in achieving the ultimate goal. Personally, I am going to reserve my judgements on this team, both good or bad, for the conclusion of the series. Until then, I will just try and enjoy the rollercoaster as best I can

If they don't speak people will get on them for that. They need to be smarter with their comments though.
Mitch and Keefe aren't the sharpest spoons.
I never like media in the dressing room or getting individuals alone for an interview.
There should be a media table after the game with the head coach and Captain/Alternate and that’s it.
Not even close to good enough makes a perfect statement/end. But as you say the coach is no better at statements.

I'm reminded of Dubas using Keefe and legendary in the same sentence after last season. Makes me think we don't have anyone in the organization that's capable of addressing the media without sounding like a moron.

Yeah well, you think Matthews played like garbage in game 1, I disagree. Let's just leave it at that shall we?

GLG!!
GLG .. Sammy has all da skills in world to match up and beat Vasi straight up .. hopefully he can get himself into his ZEN zone where he is playing shinny with friends .. to all fans going down to game tonight just let Sammy be .. he needs all of our QUIET support

Officially? No

But losing the 1st 2 at home? The percentage of teams that come back to win a series from that hole has got to be very small.
Here's how it could work. Sammy shits the bed again, then Woll comes in for game 3, plays like a star and we just roll from there? :)

Not sure how likely that is, but it's at the very least a possibility. Woll has looked like a winner all season long baby!

Anything is possible.......winning a game that eliminates an opponent is possible. However.........

I’m thinking we need a speech writer/answer man.
Seriously, if I’m the coach after that game, media talks to no one but me. I don’t throw any player under the bus, I simply say when you lose the opening game of the playoffs 7-3 in your building I didn’t like anything tonight. That’s it, not that hard. We are trying to avoid losing 7 1st rounds in a row in case the guys on the team missed that.

Of course.

But lets be real, probabilities and percentages mean sweet f*** all for our team when it comes to playoff success.

Statistically the odds of Boston in 2019 and TB in 2022 to win the series going into game 6 was relatively low as well. And certainly Montreal in 2021 heading into game 5 in 2021.

I agree whole heartedly that we do not want to go down 0-2. It would be a major deficit to overcome. One that is less likely to overcome then if we win today and go to TB 1-1. My point is, I will not get too high, or too low in this series at any point TBH. Until we punch our ticket to R2, or we punch our tickets to tee it up. Nothing more then game 2 can be won or lost tonight

And for the home team it has to be even worse.

Tonight is a defacto must win. Going down 2-0 heading to Tampa Bay would likely be insurmountable for this group.

Must win game.
TB is also 10-0 all time after going up 2-0 in a series, and 13-2 after going up 1-0, having won 7 series in a row where they were up 1-0.

Marner and Matthews need to be better? They had 5 points and were on the plus side of things in a 7-3 loss! What more do you expect from them? Keefe might want to give less icetime to however.
to be fair....2 of those points came when it didnt matter at all. No goals from either so yes I do expect more from them.
