Haven’t seen any of the game, just looked at the box score. Appears to be NHL against ECHL in this game. Hawks just not good enough.

Can’t blame Seabrook in this one
At least Seabrook will take the body/hit. Gilbert may be the only one. They mentioned a stat regarding all the hits the Hawks are making. Where? All I seen were little poke checks to avoid body contact. I also noticed when a Hawks player was ready to make a hit they did a hockey stop. Nashville is fast but hit the dam player. Bonino hat trick all in the slot. We are too soft. Every time we play Nashville you always hear make Rinne honest take a shot on net throw him off his game (He is the best stick handling goalie) we shoot around the boards he gets the puck and passes.

Youre right about all of this. Especially the physicality. It was beyond weak today, no engagement at all. Looked like they were scared of contact. The weak stick checks and playing D just to contain and not to take the puck away was rough to watch.

He might, and I often hear people say that, but it doesn't make sense to me. Did Jordan retire a Bull? Did Babe Ruth retire a Yankee? Montana a 49er? Manning a Colt? Lebron has played for three teams. Messier three. Gretzky 4. Hawks brass should not feel required to hang on to an overpaid former star on the decline if there are potentially better options.
I agree with this in a sense..Toews will not get traded...but when his contract is up I doubt Hawks have interest in signing him again at 34 years old or whatever he will be..especially with how he looks now, if he does keep playing then he probably signs cheap elsewhere..but no chance he gets moved now or next year for numerous reasons that the eye test can see/contract plus no options ready to step in yet either..maybe in 2 years when Dach/Barratt/Wise/whoever all step up..

I'm not going to pretend that one game is indicative of the rest of the season. That's a game you put in the rear view mirror and never look back. Just start with a win on Saturday and go from there. 11 games into the season I still have hope. We went through a big slump last year and were able to play well later on in the season. No way our top guys are going to underachieve this bad all year.

We hope.

Also, this wasn't just one game. This whole start to the season has not been good.

2.27 GF/G (second worst in the league)
3.00 GA/G (without Lehner standing on his head, this would arguably be higher)
34.5 shots allowed/G (fourth worst in the league)
47.52 Corsi for% (seventh worst in the league)
47.02 scoring chances allowed% (sixth worst in the league)
46.04 high danger chances for% (fifth worst in the league)
109 high danger chances allowed (fourth worst in the league, teams that allowed more have played 2-3 more games)
45.86 expected goals for% (fourth worst in the league)

This team is solidly in the bottom 10 in just about every important underlying stat. If all this continues, you should reasonably expect the goals against/g number to start looking worse. Lehner can't bail them out all year.

de Haan has more hits than Seabrook

I know it wasn’t one game but I’m not ready to punt the season like some here want to do. They have shown that they can play the right way in spurts. Just do it for a full 60 and buy in. Idk wtf is wrong with the top guys but I believe they will get better. Maybe getting embarrassed like this is the turning point but who knows.

Oh, I'm not either. I'm just saying something drastic needs to change. The underlying numbers look really bad.

The most obvious drastic change is the top guys need to stop playing like complete shit. But how do you change that?

These are the ones that worry me the most. This team has NEVER had trouble putting the puck in the net, why are they having so much trouble now?

JC wants to incorporate his system, and I think it has the players thinking far too much on the ice. He needs to just let them play in the offensive zone, and have a better defensive zone scheme. This man to man clearly isn't working, and I'd rather the team win or lose games 6-5 than lose most games 3-0.

It's the collective of issues that is just too much to handle imo. Our defensemen dont have any transition game, so they can't help out the forward forecheck and sustaining ozone time. Which sucks for us doubly because we barely have any forwards that can win races, battles and pressure away from the puck so they end up chasing the game all the time.

We got exposed by Nashville hard because their strengths are exactly out weaknesses. Nashville, Vegas, Washington, Boston... Hard battling teams with decent offensive defensemen are going to eat us alive.

If Toews and Gus didn't regress so hard we'd be in a better spot. Arguable those two were the strongest cogs battling against those above weaknesses... But now they've gone all the way down to liabilities.

I'm at the point too where I think a shock needs to happen to the core. They might not be able to do the things they did before because of age, but we won't know unless we truly shock the system.

I'd say trading Seabs would be the best for that. Or at least punish him hard, so the others realize what's what. The next few game will be interesting to see how the whole scratching plays out.

Stan isn't afraid to make those type of moves, weve seen it with Hammer. So if we continue this path all the way to the TD, I'm expecting something. I don't think a coaching change would be enough of a shock, we already did that and JC isn't the issue imo.
Who came up with this dropem back entry. Can't anyone carry the puck in? I don't recall Nashville doing this play. My kids have been out of hockey for a few years we never taught that. Skate 80 feet up the ice and drop behind you 40 feet why everyone is sitting at the blue line. Years ago we were the dump and chase team but we had players that would go to the corners. We also can't breakout, we look like a Mite team just learning this skill.

You would expect guys that have been through it all to pull it together and start playing up to the standard that they set for the fan base.

Ya, but by that same logic, you'd also expect that from the beginning of the season. Why weren't they ready to play at that standard from the start, and why are they still not there 11 games in?

Every team uses it. The Hawks just don't do it\use it right...

This.

If you look at teams that use it correctly you will notice two things. The gap is smaller and that they use as an option not as the only play. Because Gus does it every f***ing time teams can just time their momentum and clog around the blueline which prevents our zone entry.

I will say that I really doubt that it is the game plan of the coaches to do this every time (Gus and Keith did the same thing with Q) but if it is it is moronic.

The Gus situation is perplexing. He's always had good offensive instincts. I can't fathom how he has suddenly and completely forgotten how to play hockey.

The stats do not lie...team playing underwater in most stats...too many individuals not living upto the job requirements.

Fundamentally I think the main problem is that 3 of their Centers are not doing a good job...and Center site jey to most offensive production and starring in the league. Always was.

Currently we put out:

1C: Toews 1g 1a -5 11GP

2C: Dach 1g 1a +/- 0 6GP

3C: Kampf 1g 2a -4 11GP

4C: Carpenter 0g 4a +5 11GP

Clearly only Carpenter is at the level you would findxaxceptable for a 4C

Clearly Kampf is not good enough for a 3C
(Compare to Bonino who is the Nashvilke 3C)

Dach at 18 is clearly not ready to impact significantly to justify being the driver for an effective line 2 production.
He has flashes but overall looks like an unpolished player ready to take in the best men's hockey level in the world.. Maybe best to send him back to juniors and okay in the WJHC...cause Hawks look like no chance to make playoffs.

Finally Toews is so unproductive and also not difference-making defensively that it adds up to s horrendous story through 11GP.

He looks bewildered to why he has no jump and consistently or abikityto impact a game in a positive manner ..he is wondering where hisxtalent flew off to. He realizes he cannot lead irbinsoire if his own play stinks. He is befuddled as to why this is happening to him.

Not that center is the only problem.. it it is the most vital issue when did isding why lines are not productive on attack..

The old saying that you have to be good down the middle has never been shown to be so true as proven by the lack of goidvplay from the Hawks Centers especially the lack of starring from the Hawks designated top 3 Centers..

If your top 2 Centers are productive and starrinh you might get away with good enough offense..butcwhennyour combined top 2 Centers cannot star and difference-make,you are in deep trouble.

Yeah, I thought this was probably a playoff team this year, seems like it isn't. Ultimately I believed too much in the performances of our "core" pieces last year. The players we brought in around them this year have played well. The problem has been our former stalwarts, who did play great last year, have regressed seemingly over night. Unless they rediscover their form, this season is over.

Unfortunately I don't see a way out of this mess either, the next couple years could be really bleak.

Most of us thought the core guys would regress a bit from their career offensive years, but I don't think anybody predicted they'd collectively shit the bed to start the season.

That's a lot of shit in one bed too, we probably need to throw out the sheets, and maybe even the full mattress.

For the trip to LA--Lehner should be able to travel via private jet with every amenity imaginable.

For the trip to LA, the rest of the 'hawks skaters and coaches should be forced to hitchhike with ex-con drivers who think the 'hawks players and coaches have "A really purdy mouth."

Seriously--amazing performance by Lehner--and the rest of the team (including coaching staff) should be ashamed of themselves.

wellll...
Lehner looked great. hopefully we can wait until he hits a rough spot and sign him to a decent length contract.
