As part of Gaborik trade, D Steven Delisle, 22, and D Blake Parlett, 23, also headed to Blue Jackets.

aaaand those are the 2 contracts missing, Delisle back to CLB:laugh:
Parlett was doing bad in CT

ugh I wish they got more picks back for Gabby

well Dorsett is going to be great

Brassard needed a change of scenary

Moore is a key , he's a good young talented D

but I wanted a first........sixth is ugh

I agree. Brassard is not a terrible 3rd line center. Everyone seems to be raving about Dorsett and Moore is definitely the wild card. Would have preferred and first or second round pick instead of 6th. I am the biggest Sather critic, but lets be fair most of us Ranger fans wanted Gaborik/his money out of here this year. I am sure there were no other takers on Gaborik and his contract...AND Brad Wade Richards is next to be gone when hopefully we buy him out.

I'm blown away that Slats and Gorton actually shook up the team this much. Blown away.

However, there is a LOT of upside in this deal. Moore has 2nd pairing upside. Phenomenal skater who can really move the puck. Brassard has been coveted by the Rangers for a while now. Great vision and skill, he's just fallen into a rut in Columbus. If he can get himself back on track, he's a potential #2 center who fits in very nicely behind Stepan.

Dorsett will be a fan favorite after his first game here. Dude is a warrior and brings the same kind of game Prust did.

You can't lump the Nash deal in with this one and say "Oh we traded x, y and z for 1 2 and 3! This sucks!" It doesn't work like that. Gaborik's value was as low as it's been for a while. This was a very good return. It's unfortunate we didn't get a first round pick back, but it is what it is.

My 1st thought was, the Rangers finally got Brassard. The 2nd was, damn, no Burmistrov. Once the Rangers got Clowe, the writing was on the wall regarding. Solid return, although I was hoping for a 1st.

"So you're gonna let us make you worst while we have your 1st round pick?"
-Columbus Front Office

Stepan, Mac and Hagelin probably played into it too.

This trade pretty much guarantees all will be locked up without much issue elsewhere.

I wonder if Slats asked for Erixon back and settled with Moore.

So Richards stays till 2014, and we're banking on a Pavelski/Stastny to take his place?

Not impressed.

Gaborik: "It's good to know someone wants you on their team".

If only he showed the same love to his teammates when he was skating around doing nothing. Dude was horrible this year. Brutal. I wish him luck, though. Hope he regains form, because he was a big negative for our team this year.

Checked in on NHL.com real quick to check up on the trade deadline, and right as I click away to another website I see that Gaborik has been traded to CBJ, spit out the drink I had in my mouth. What the ****?!

Sad moment, really liked Gaborik even though he didn't do much for the team at this moment.

I'd say you're wrong in that you're assuming Gaborik is going to keep producing at the level he did last year forever. You say we need another 40 goal scorer as if Gaborik is scoring 40 goals this year. He's not even close. He's slower and his shot is weaker. His speed and hard shot were his best assets.

I really liked him as a Ranger the past few years. He was the gem out of all the crappy UFA signings. But, this year, he looks like he's fading fast.

Again, it's been 35 games... and the bold part will happen to every athlete who is recovering from shoulder surgery. When he recovers, I'm guessing he'll be closer to what he was than what he is now.

Really? We need to see this in a trade thread, too? How many threads do we need to call Torts an idiot in? I'm surprised this hasn't come up in the NFL or MLB thread in some aspect.

Sure Rex Ryan's recent years haven't been good, but at least he's not the unmitigated disaster that John Tortorella is.

Stepan, Mac and Hagelin probably played into it too.

This trade pretty much guarantees all will be locked up without much issue elsewhere.

I wonder if Slats asked for Erixon back and settled with Moore.

I wouldn't be surprised if he had discussions about Erixon. I think that both would be solid pick-ups.

Why can't people look at the big picture? Do you truly think Gaborik is DONE? He'll never score 30-40 goals again. He'll never hit 70-80 points again? If you think that, then it was a fine trade.

But if you take the trade in context, and view it that he was stifled in a system playing with Richards, Boyle, Pyatt, etc, that doesn't focus on offense, after having shoulder surgery, and only played 35 games... in a 48 game season... Then it doesn't look like a good trade.

I'd bet you every dollar in my bank account that Gaborik scores more goals in the upcoming seasons than Dorsett and Brassard combined.

And why? Like I said, I'd take Gaborik's career as a track record, over a 3rd and 4th liner every day of the week.

Context and big picture view helps.

Who knows of Gabs scores 40 goals again?

He played in this system last year too. And he scored plenty of goals.

Brassard will help improve our depth up the middle. That is very important in this league.
