Would not surprise me in the least if the presence of Jarko Kekkelainan ( spelling?) as coach in Columbus had an awful lot to do with it.
BlueJackets are on the upswing, it would appear.

At what point does it ever fall on the player around here? Gaborik was horrible because Gaborik sucked. Does Torts play for him on the ice in a Gaborik jersey, or something?

Nope. I feel like I don't like the coach so everything is his fault. NOPE! JONATHAN! STOP MAKING SENSE! NO1!1!!!!!1

We free up over $7m cap space and get some good, not great, pieces. Who on this board was going to resign Gaborik after next year at at least $6m plus? I think everyone needs to let this play out.

Very happy with this trade.

Gabby has looked brutal this season. We added 2 good roster players to help our forward depth and we add a potential top pair dman, or at the least a solid top 4 guy for years to come.

I'll miss Gabby though, he was a good Ranger for most of his time here.

In the end, I like this. Gaborik was losing a step in his skating and his shot has gone from lethal to almost pedestrian. Something was up with him, guys. This gives us depth, and a legit #6 D-man with a huge upside. Not only that, but come playoff time (which I'm convinced that we will make it) Dorsett comes back in and our offense looks deep and more suited to the style the Rangers play.

Nash - Stepan - Callahan
Hagelin - Richards - Clowe
Zuccarello - Brassard - Dorsett
Powe - Boyle - Asham

...more balance. We thought we put together a team where every line could score based on skill. We were wrong. Worst offensive team in the league. Let's try something else while making room to sign our RFAs.

Have some faith. LGR.

The lowest scoring team in the league trades a 40 goal scorer. Sounds right. Less goals, more Jam!

45 minutes later and this trade is still LOL.

A bunch of underperforming players with "potential". You really couldn't have gotten more for Gabby....

Again, it's been 35 games... and the bold part will happen to every athlete who is recovering from shoulder surgery. When he recovers, I'm guessing he'll be closer to what he was than what he is now.

What does 35 games have to do with it? He was half the player he was last year for maybe 6 of them and he was almost deadweight for the rest.

If his shoulder surgery is still nagging him to that extent, that's worrisome in and of itself. What about his speed? Was that not his biggest asset in the past? Does he not look like he lost that great first step?

Don't mean it like that.

1. You could tell there was disagreement between the two

2. Part of the problem was/is that this team was not built for the system Tortorella plays. This move ( and Clowe) make us more of a tortorella team

We do seem to be adding some serious grit with these moves (especially Zucc :D). I hope this team can get some spine back.

Who knows of Gabs scores 40 goals again?

He played in this system last year too. And he scored plenty of goals.

Brassard will help improve our depth up the middle. That is very important in this league.

That is a big assumption. He did it just LAST YEAR. And two years before that.

Are you telling me, that you truly, genuinely believe Gaborik is done in the NHL? That he will forever be a 15-20 goal scorer and struggle putting up 35 points?

If you believe that I don't know what to say. Personally, I don't and that is why I think we got fleeced in this deal.

I wouldn't be shocked to see Gaborik start producing more THIS season with Columbus.

And again, you said "last year," last year he had shoulder surgery, give him time to recovery. True recovery time for his operation is 9 months to 1 year to recover 110%. Do you think he was really playing at 100% all season? No. If you did, you don't have a clue about the operation. I had the same exact surgery as him on my right shoulder. It's not "5 months and you can compete in the NHL at the top of your game night in and night out" operation.

When he gets back to 100%, he will be the best player in that deal, by a long shot.

Moore is 22 year old, you know that right? And you realize how much Gabby "Underperformed" this season right?

I really do not know much about the players we just got. I do know that out side of the last few games. Gabby just looked like he wanted to go away. From where I sit, he looked like a very unhappy, unmotivated player. That almost makes a change via trade a certainty. Best of luck to him. The Rangers were interested in getting younger tougher player with some upside. Hopefully they achieved that. Welcome to our new players.

Pretty much me too. I like Brassard. I don't know enough about the other two guys. Surprised we didn't get a #1 pick, but if mgmt thinks Moore is a high quality prospect that's much the same thing. I don't know nearly enough to evaluate for myself.

I do like getting Brassard - and by so doing, moving Boyle out of the 3rd line center role.
I do like getting an agitator who can play (which according to reports, Dorsett is).
I do like getting a young PMD prospect (which according to reports, Moore is).
I do like maximizing an asset who wasn't coming back (if this was in fact the best deal out there).

I do not like trading away 1st line skill.
I do not like not getting a 1st in this year's draft.

I'm going to have to wait and see. I know I like Brassard. I know that Gabby wasn't performing, wasn't in the long term plans and had to go for cap reasons. It all comes down to how Moore and Dorsett play.

Yes, because as we all know, there is a linear relationship there. And we also know Clowe, Brassard, Moore and Dorsett do not score goals ever.

Clowe - 0 Goals
Dorsett - 3 goals
Brassard - 7 goals
Moore - 0 goals

Lighting it up!

Why does everyone keep saying we traded away scoring? Gaborik has sucked all year. We got depth, some scoring, and grit. I think this might be the mix up we needed. The only thing I'm disappointed with is not getting a 1st back, but we get 3 young players and 2 of which are first round picks so I'll take it.

Brassard has TWO less goals than Gaborik this year, fellas. And I'm sure than he has some use when he's not scoring. Plus, he's going to be playing with more talented wingers than he had in CLB.

LET. THIS. PLAY. OUT.
