No, but Dorsett is. And Moore is an unproven defense man. And Brassard is a 1st round pick who amounted to a 3rd liner.

So tell me where I'm wrong? Stop wearing the rose colored glasses.

This off season now we need to find a 40 goal scorer to add to the team. The whole point of getting Nash was to ADD offense to Gaborik's resume. Now, we just lost that part of our core. And don't say Dorsett and Brassard will produce like Gaborik in years to come.

I'll take Gaborik's track record over Brassard's and Dorsett's 10 times out of 10.

And 40 goal scorers are tough to come by. 35 point 3rd line centers, 20 point wingers, etc, are not.

And Callahan is a 25 goal / 45 point winger. If he's your second best forward (which he now is for us) your team is in big trouble.

I'd say you're wrong in that you're assuming Gaborik is going to keep producing at the level he did last year forever. You say we need another 40 goal scorer as if Gaborik is scoring 40 goals this year. He's not even close. He's slower and his shot is weaker. His speed and hard shot were his best assets.

I really liked him as a Ranger the past few years. He was the gem out of all the crappy UFA signings. But, this year, he looks like he's fading fast.

Hockey Rodent speculating that NYR had Tortorella spark friction with Gaborik to up his chances of waiving NTC.
Frankly, that's stupid. Why reach for a conspiracy theory to explain the easily explainable. Team was bad, Gaborik wasn't playing well, Torts is abrasive.

And why do we keep making trades with what was the worst organization in the NHL?

We got worse after the Nash trade. How much do you want to bet we continue to decline and Columbus continues to improve? What a joke.

Another reason to be mad about this is we have no picks and very few chips to get some in high rounds. Figured Gaborik would get a first back.

Tears aside, who the hell is going to play for us with CK, Miller and Gabby gone?

Ok after the shock has settled.

1. Disappointed a first round pick was not part of package.
2. Dorsett is actually a solid piece for the bottom six.
3. Brassard and Moore I have reservations about. But could become core pieces if all goes well.

I'm blown away that Slats and Gorton actually shook up the team this much. Blown away.

However, there is a LOT of upside in this deal. Moore has 2nd pairing upside. Phenomenal skater who can really move the puck. Brassard has been coveted by the Rangers for a while now. Great vision and skill, he's just fallen into a rut in Columbus. If he can get himself back on track, he's a potential #2 center who fits in very nicely behind Stepan.

Dorsett will be a fan favorite after his first game here. Dude is a warrior and brings the same kind of game Prust did.

You can't lump the Nash deal in with this one and say "Oh we traded x, y and z for 1 2 and 3! This sucks!" It doesn't work like that. Gaborik's value was as low as it's been for a while. This was a very good return. It's unfortunate we didn't get a first round pick back, but it is what it is.

Guys, give the trade a chance to see what happens. We all new after the argument with Torts & Gabby last week someone was gonna go!!.. I really like Gabby and I hope he proves Torts wrong by scoring big goals again.. So we can make torts look like who he really is an ( a$$%ole )...

Dorsett is an exciting player
2011 he played in 76 games with ((( 184 ))) penalty minutes!!..
2012 played in 77 games with ((( 235))) penalty minutes
we need a guy like him around.

Brassard I think he played with nash thats a plus for us..

John Moore TSN says this kid is just as good as Mcd

I think with Clowe, Dorsett, Asham couple new faces lets see what happens...

Although if the Rangers DONT make the playoffs I would be shocked if Idiot Torts dont get fired..

Andrew Gross @AGrossRecord
As part of Gaborik trade, D Steven Delisle, 22, and D Blake Parlett, 23, also headed to Blue Jackets.

I've always been a fan of Brassard.

Dorsett is going to be a favorite here, i have a feeling. We love guys like him and Torts is going to propose marriage to him after the first game.

This "3rd liner" has 1 less point than our former "elite 40 goal scorer."

How many recent Cup winners had 1 guy score 40, let alone 2?

Why can't people look at the big picture? Do you truly think Gaborik is DONE? He'll never score 30-40 goals again. He'll never hit 70-80 points again? If you think that, then it was a fine trade.

But if you take the trade in context, and view it that he was stifled in a system playing with Richards, Boyle, Pyatt, etc, that doesn't focus on offense, after having shoulder surgery, and only played 35 games... in a 48 game season... Then it doesn't look like a good trade.

I'd bet you every dollar in my bank account that Gaborik scores more goals in the upcoming seasons than Dorsett and Brassard combined.

And why? Like I said, I'd take Gaborik's career as a track record, over a 3rd and 4th liner every day of the week.

Context and big picture view helps.

Brassard has 2nd line upside, IMO. Dorsett can be a decent 3rd/4th liner. Moore is still young. I hate trading Gaborik, but the return ain't so bad.
