I have no formed opinions on this move. I'm incredibly sad because Gabby was my favorite player on the team. This is seriously one of my least favorite Ranger moments ever, even though I feel this trade makes sense.

Agreed, I feel exactly the same. Gabby has barely contributed of late, so we may be a better team with him gone, but he was still my favorite player.

knew the trade was coming. didn't expect it until the draft, but it WAS coming.

Brassard was a 1st rounder.
Moore was a 1st rounder.
Dorsett adds an element we lost from last years team AND he can actually play the game.

We clear salary (which IS an asset in a capped world) and get to retain our core pieces without the worry of a poaching offer-sheet.

If you are going to trade Gaborik DURING the season, this is a good transaction for both clubs.

How did we get worse exactly? We traded an overpaid and grossly under-performing soft as a feather winger for several useful parts. Sure, Gaborik could come back and pot 40 again next season...but that's far from a certainty at this point. And he's a UFA next year too. Not to mention his crippling cap hit of 7M. So, no, we really didn't get any worse considering Gaborik was providing us practically nothing this season.

Yeah, I am fine with this deal. For sure. Moore should be a nice player for us and we badly need the D-depth. Brassard finally addresses our center depth and pushes Boyle down to the 4th line. It sucks to lose a potential gamebreaker, but he was simply a bump on a log here this year.

Yes. Callahan is definitely a 20 point 3rd liner.

No, but Dorsett is. And Moore is an unproven defense man. And Brassard is a 1st round pick who amounted to a 3rd liner.

So tell me where I'm wrong? Stop wearing the rose colored glasses.

This off season now we need to find a 40 goal scorer to add to the team. The whole point of getting Nash was to ADD offense to Gaborik's resume. Now, we just lost that part of our core. And don't say Dorsett and Brassard will produce like Gaborik in years to come.

I'll take Gaborik's track record over Brassard's and Dorsett's 10 times out of 10.

And 40 goal scorers are tough to come by. 35 point 3rd line centers, 20 point wingers, etc, are not.

And Callahan is a 25 goal / 45 point winger. If he's your second best forward (which he now is for us) your team is in big trouble.

Hockey Rodent speculating that NYR had Tortorella spark friction with Gaborik to up his chances of waiving NTC.

This move gives us depth and it makes all the sense in my brain.

But my heart is very sad, if you'll excuse my cheesiness. :(

most of you guys are very upset maybe because you owna Gaborik jersey. I loved Gabby, he was nice but he has been really weak and is not happy.

Do you guys realize he freaking waived his no trade clause to go to Columbus. It was that bad.

At the expense of goal scoring... yay...

Not really. Gaborik was a ghost most of the season. Being played on the 4th line, benched. We needed toughness and grit, every single person here complained about Gaborik 99 percent of the games. Now he's gone and we got grit and toughness.

Plus, Nash knows Dorsett and Brassard and has played with them. This might be a good deal for us. We just got tougher to play against.

torts got what he wanted, lets pray he does something with it.

We went from two wins away from the Cup... to blowing our team up?

We were two wins away, and now our roster is TOTALLY DIFFERENT. What the **** was Sather thinking?

Normally when teams get that close they don't shake things up much.

Trade Anisimov/Dubinsky and a 1st for Nash? Check.

Don't re-sign any depth players in Fedotenko, Mitchell, Prust, etc? Check.

Trade Gaborik for Brassard, Dorsett, Moore? Check.

Why the **** so many moves when you were so close? Tortorella AND Sather need to go after this debacle.

Told rangers delt 2 contracts back to Columbus heard echo players can anyone confirm? @Dagoon44 I believe so. Delisle and Logan Pyett I believe went with Gabby. Puts them at 50.

Dagoon, that is me. I heard from a source I had who called the deal prior to it getting done.

At the expense of goal scoring... yay...

What goal scoring?

Yeah, I am fine with this deal. For sure. Moore should be a nice player for us and we badly need the D-depth. Brassard finally addresses our center depth and pushes Boyle down to the 4th line. It sucks to lose a potential gamebreaker, but he was simply a bump on a log here this year.

Square peg, round hole for Gaborik here.

Gaborik has barely scored. Are you seriously saying at the expense of scoring?

This exactly.

Are you guys rebuilding?

No, we are not.

I think the key part people are missing in the trade is the cap space this frees up. Hags, Step, and McD needing new deals this offseason. Step has been playing like a #1C, he's going to get paid. McD is going to get paid. Hags will get a nice bridge contract.

This trade makes us deeper and tougher to play against. We might not like the system, but these players fit the system better than Gaborik does (especially with Gaborik's play this year).

This "3rd liner" has 1 less point than our former "elite 40 goal scorer."

How many recent Cup winners had 1 guy score 40, let alone 2?

This is a fantastic deal for both teams, people wanted Gabby out of New York, Brassard is a solid center, Dorsett has similar attributes that Prust had and Moore has the potential to be a fantastic D-man.

Gabby gets a new home and I expect him to tear it up with the Jackets now. He'll be back now in his natural position playing with a lot of energetic, well organised youngsters. He clearly wanted to leave by waiving his NTC, he obviously isn't happy about the way he was being treated in New York.

Both teams did well here.
