That’s actually wild that people are now throwing away Kadri’s monster performance for our cup. Mitts can’t even compare now. Kadri lifting us past the Blues? The OT winner vs Tampa? Such short attention spans smfh

Ya, that kadri performance is tremedously underrated.

Colton's offensive skills got underrated last year by being just okay on a line that featured two solid role players. Wood and LoC are super solid bottom sixers not mid 6. Colton is a solid mid sixer who can finish scoring chances, he might not be that much worse than Lehky if given a full season with Mack.

Yup that’s what my question is, and your answer is fair. I love Kadri a lot and what he did for us, but I get different vibes with Mitts. More calm and collected type of player who just produces no matter who he plays with. I don’t remember if Naz could produce playing with lesser talent
I don't think it was until Naz had Burakovsky and Nuke on his wings that he really stepped it up and we saw cup season Naz. If I recall correctly the seasons before it was him just trying to do stuff on his own a lot of the time. The cup season he started using his teammates more. So while he did produce still it just wasn't as much and I would have to think Nuke going crazy that year helped with that.

Tough question though, it would be hard for Mitts to top the Kadri cup run performance but we haven't even really seen Mitts with solid top six wingers yet. So who knows maybe he has an even higher level.

The 3 plays where Mitts teed up goals were great obviously, but what really shined through for me last night was his play outside of the offensive zone and on the boards in general. Just such a high IQ player with a fantastic set of skills. He should have a career year points-wise, which is nothing to scoff at, but otherwise, his 200 foot game is what we've really been missing since Naz and everything else will benefit--papering over a lot of mistakes elsewhere. I know the big-3 are getting a lot of credit for keeping the team afloat during this injury laden stretch, but to me Casey's the linchpin.

It kinda reminds me of the same situation with Edmonton and Zach Hyman. Hyman was signed really as the Oilers’ 3C, but got bumped up to the first line with McDave due to injuries and/or out of necessity. As a result, he blew by all previous career highs (goals especially).

Given how good Colton has been with MacK, it may make sense to just keep Colton there and try to fit everybody else in on lines 2-3 around that.

Oh Mittelstadt is a significant upgrade from Naz defensively, at least on a consistent basis. Naz's raw talent and ability to take over games himself far exceeds Mitts though.

I wasn't able to watch the 3rd, sounds like I missed quite the period. ENGWG!

Anyway, not very often we can say that Makar had a bad night and MacKinnon was merely a'ight and the team gets a win. But there's the Mittelstadt line coming through big-time, and scoring the kinds of goals this team needs to score more of, especially in the postseason.

Kelly reeeeeeeeeeeally wanted to score on his old team. I actually thought he had a decent game.

Hope the rest of the team takes a look at that Manson goal and quits passing up shots. But probably not.

I can’t get over Wagner missing by 3 feet on an empty net in the slot.

What a f***ing idiot.
Ya that was bad. Puck I think bounced a bit but he whiffed pretty bad still.

That line with Steinburg and him is weird. Both guys slow as molasses but they just about get to the pucks when they need to. I feel like they are 1 step away from taking a penalty every shift but somehow manage to escape unharmed.

I think it's overall a lot closer. Naz was and is flashier, but I'd argue we have plenty of that elsewhere and need more of a rock at the 2C position. In terms of productivity, it'll be a wash when it's all said and done.

I see they gave an assist to Makar on Colton’s goal so his point streak continues

Colton gets a ton of hate around here. He was playing it of position last year. He's a better winger.

IMO his best role would be 2nd line wing with a pass first center. Not sure we can give him that role when everyone is healthy, but that's probably his best spot on any given team.

I really did not like how Annunen finished that game, at least three of those goals exposed his lack of lateral speed.
It was frustrating. He got one bad bounce on the first goal and then his brain/playing ability went to complete shit. Not ideal.

In my ideal world we would see:
Drouin-MacKinnon-Rantanen
Colton-Mittelstadt-Nichushkin
Landeskog-3C-Lehkonen

Not sure who that 3C is going to be, would love a faceoff winning, defensive specialist. I think that allows for a pretty balanced attack, and a 3rd line that could reasonable function as both a shutdown line as well as a dominant possession line. Have the 4th line be Wood-Ivan-Steinberg and just tell them to skate as fast as they can, shoot as much as they can, and hit everything they can.

Did LOC and Kovalenko die?

From 2nd line to not even existing!

Then there's also Kiviranta and Kelly.

Only caught the highlights of this one. Looks like it got a little dicey towards the end and not Annunen's best work but I'll take it.

Mitts has been incredible. Those little passes he's making in tight spaces are so impressive. Said it the other day as well but that trade it looking like a complete steal. MacFarland and co pulled a fast one, no ski mask.

Happy for Kovalenko finally getting rewarded with that elusive first goal. I really like his game. He looked completely outmatched and lost in the playoffs but caught up real quick.

I know Colton is excelling at wing, but he likely slots back in as 3C IMO

Drouin - Mack - Mikko
Lehk - Mitts - Nuke
Lando - Colton - Kovy/Kivi
Wood - Kelly - LOC
