Goalies are a crapshoot. there was a good reason why calgary chose macdonald over demko. any goalie could have any career trajectory. nothing is set in stone for tenders in comparison to many players (in my opinion)

Who cares about MacDonald.

Gillies > Demko > MacDonald.

I actually didn't like the Macdonald pick as a flames fan. Screams of Brent Krahn all over again.

Enjoy him. We're very happy with Mason McDonald too. IMO our best prospect other than Bennett.
I'm not happy with that pick, I liked Dvorak and McKewon at the time. Sorry Gillies destroys McDonald as far as prospects go and its nowhere near close.

Is BC a stupidly stacked team or has Demko been that good?

BC is a stacked team. But at the end of the day, Demko is stopping like 96-97% of the shots he faces.

That's insane. I personally believe that save percentage is 98% an indicator of goalie performance..not team / D infront of him.

GAA that is more of a team stat compared to Save percentage.

Yeah I mean look at Toronto they gave up on Tuuka Rask, now look at the guy.

My point was I'm happy with who we picked even though it looks like Demko's playing well. But do be wary of stats in the NCAA. I've watched my share of NCAA games and most goaltenders' stats are pretty inflated. That was as true for our prospect Gillies as it probably is for Demko. Enjoy the 4 shutouts in 5 games, it's a good string of games for the player any way you put it. As for Gillies vs Demko vs McDonald, I don't think there's a whole lot of separation at this point. Ingoalmag had the three ranked 10th, 12th, and 15th respectively. For goalie prospects that's beyond negligible separation. It'd be like whining about drafted Nylander instead of Ehlers, except with more random chance at play.

Kid has everything to be an elite goalie in the NHL, NHL is becoming a goalie factory instead of a graveyard in the last 5 years

Naaah!!!! Demko is a lot better than Gillies and have a lot more upside Time will tell ...

LMAO!!

no GM in the league would trade Demko for Gillies. NONE.

Gillies is a better goalie than Demko right now.

However, he's basically 2 years older (Born in January of '94, Demko is born in December of '95) and I think Demko has higher potential. Nonetheless, they're both amazing goaltenders. Boy, is Team U.S.A. gonna have a good batch of goalies in 2022. Gillies, Demko, Hellebuyck, Gibson.

I think its too early to determine where Demko falls. He is just coming off hip surgery and stats look great so far. However, BC has only let up an average of 23 shots a game so far. Stopping 8 shots a period you probably aren't seeing a lot of top tier scoring chances.

lol sure there bud, he's not playing on the greatest team but 3+ GAA last year and .906 sv % following it up with the exact same numbers

That .906 SV% was good for second best in the QMJHL last season, while in comparison Demko had the 4th best SV% in hockeyeast, so I don't exactly see what's so funny about that..

In respect to his relative competition McDonald actually had the better season, but hey, if want to directly compare their numbers between two vastly different league's then by all means have at it.

I like Demko and I'm glad that he is a Canuck prospect but even the goalie experts can't give you a very good and clear top 10 for the future because so much of goalie development depends on opportunity and the guys in front of them.

Where's Demko's Hockey East Rookie of the year award?
Where's Demko's NCAA Championship?
Where's Demko's NCAA Championship Tournament MVP award?
Where's Demko's Hockey East Goaltender of the year award?
Where's Demko's three consecutive years of posting a .930+ SV%?

The fact is that Demko has a long way's to go before he surpasses what Gillies accomplished at that level and 7 really strong games doesn't change that. Both are absolutely fantastic prospects, but let's not pretend that Demko has done anything at all to separate himself or put him a tier above to this point.

u so mad gilly blows

Neutral fan here.

Gillies > Demko.

Both are very good goalie prospects but Gillies has three years of consistent .930 SV% play. He's off to a solid start in the AHL as a 21 year old too.

Is Demko still eligible for the WJC?....was lights-out and the tournament last year but hoping he isn't too old...that would give scouts a better idea of where he's at with players his own age group.

Demko

Right now Gilles is the better goaltender but in all fairness Demko is 2 years younger so lets see how it goes this year.

Flames got a steal with Gilles.

He's dominating every goaltending stat right now: Minutes played, GAA, SV%,Shutouts, Wins.
