Benning just turned his entire franchise in one draft. Virtanen, McCann, and Demko.

Demko is flying under the radar of the 'Nucks prospect pool imo....guy has a starting NHL goalie written all over him.....that draft class is shaping up as a home run for VanCity....Virtanen, McCann, Demko and don't forget Tryamkin, their third rounder...if he ever arrives in NA he has 'shutdown defender' potential for sure.:handclap:

He was a steal at 36. I still cant believe all those other teams passed on him.

calgary passed on him i believe. Now they dont have a goaltender in the NHL or the farm that could stop a beach ball.

Not true, they have Jon Gillies who put up terrific college numbers as well (and is doing great so far in the AHL).

Sure they took MacDonald who looks like a pretty good prospect in his own right, but every other team passed on him at least once too.

IIRC he was a concensus 1st round "worthy" player, but goalies just aren't picked as high as they used to be.

I'm glad he fell to us and we made the right pick. One great goalie can set the franchise up for a solid 10-15 years.

Demko is an absolute stud, everything you want in a starting goaltender. Fits in perfectly age wise in the group of forward prospects the Canucks already have too.

7 games played, 4 shutouts, .964svv and .86GAA

What's more impressive is that he's doing this as a 19 year old.

6'4, 200 lbs. Perfect size, technical skills and good side to side movement.

what more do you want?

Guy has Cory Schneider potential. Once Ryan Miller's contract is over, i hope they put Demko in the drivers seat along with a vet can is comfortable playing backup and can also provide some guidance. Next year in the AHL, and the year after he starts with the big club.

Is BC a stupidly stacked team or has Demko been that good?

A bit of both. BC is a top 5 team in the NCAA but those numbers are still ridiculous.

not to mention, stacked or not stacked, as a 19 year old doing that at the NCAA is flat out ridiculous. Cory Schneider didn't even do that, as a 21 year old, and BC was stacked back then.

Lets also keep Mason Macdonald out of this, I think the reason why Demko dropped was, he was going to have Surgery coming soon?? anyone recall this?

He should have gone 15th to 20th.

I'm not sure the surgery was a factor as it's pretty standard for goalies these days.
I just think teams are reluctant to take goalies in the first round.

lol sure there bud, he's not playing on the greatest team but 3+ GAA last year and .906 sv % following it up with the exact same numbers
I dont think this is the place for Mcdonald VS Demko discussion but in Demko and Mcdonalds draft year Gaudreau was still playing with BC so Calgary's scouts would of seen a lot of Demko. Obviously there is a reason why they chose to go Mcdonald over Demko. The surgery may of been that or they seen something they really liked about Mcdonald or didnt like about Demko. Who knows.

Just goes to show why goalies rarely go in the first round these days. It's a bit of a crapshoot as McDonald was ranked just behind Demko at the time of the draft.
It looks like Demko was a very good value pick though the way he has developed.
