Wow why would the Hitmen bother... You really think a guy is going to abandon his college life for junior hockey life?

Adam Tambellini did...

The picks were conditional and I suspect the ones they will give up are late round bantam draft picks that sometimes don't get used so it's a very low risk high reward move they have made.

Would much rather see him stay in college, he'll have more time to develop and mature before joining the pros. As mentioned, the Canucks are already pretty deep with goalies at the AHL level.

I usually agree that goalies deserve more time to develop, and that's why NCAA is a good idea. But Thatcher could play the next season and a half in the WHL on a very good team. He would play a lot more games, and the Canucks are pretty thin in goal prospect so he could assume the starting gig after that.

Thin? We would have no room for him as it stands.

Miller
Lack
Markstrom
Ericsson
Cannata

Cannata was regulated to the echl because of markstrom and Ericsson.

I like the chance Calgary is taking. They have a strong team and I think they will still acquire another top forward. If they can convince Demko to join, look out.

Mike Moore was on Fan960 recently stating a few things...

1. Adam Tambellini was acquired with the Hitmen pretty much *knowing* that he was planning on making the transition to the CHL

2. Demko will be prodded to come to Calgary, but after Seattle had tried a number of times to get him over unsuccessfully they seriously wonder if there is anything to entice him to come over. They aren't sure what they can offer that Seattle couldnt/didnt

3. The conditions on the picks are on him coming over. If Demko doesnt come to Calgary, nothing is given up. They didnt mention what would be traded if by chance Demko does come.

Even listening to him, I would bet that Demko never plays in Calgary

Bump.

Demko is off to an amazing start this season, and showing his elite talent.

What a steal for the Canucks . He should have gone in the first round :handclap:

I wouldnt be surprised if Demko ends up being the best pick in the Canucks 2014 draft.

Kid has incredible tools. Size and athleticism.

He has 3 shutouts in a row now (in the first 5 games for Boston College), 0.974 save %. Great start!

#Canucks prospect Thatcher Demko with his third straight shutout - he is now 4-1-0 with 0.60 GAA, 0.974 S% & 3 S/O. S/O Streak at 196:58

Fantastic start to the season for Demko, was very happy when we picked him. He's tracking very well, and should be a quality AHL goalie next year.

I think I'd temper the expectations a bit based on the first 5 games of the season. I've seen a couple of the games. He looks great but the strength of schedule has been really weak. Colorado College just wasn't even close to the same level as BC. To put it into perspective, over their first 5 games BC has outshot their opponents 175 to 117.

Like I said he's been great, made some tough saves, especially with BC being the youngest team in the country, but let's see how he looks against #5 ranked Denver next week. Should be a good test.

Eh, I know he's been outstanding, but this is still small sample size, hopefully he keeps it up though.
