Friedman "wonders" if there are GMs out there upset at Briere for trying to trade them Carter Hart

Only if Briere had prior knowledge and also if the NHL investigation had this knowledge one would think a memo to the 5 GMs would have gone out right?

That being said there was no trade so it's a big nothing burger.

Why do you think there was no trade? It's not a nothing burger unless you actually think Carter Hart isn't better than Cam Talbot and Phoenix Copley.

Or some combination of Samsonov Woll and Jones.

Or some combination of Levi, Comire and UPL.

Carter Hart would be the #1 goalie on every team I mentioned by MILES yet there was no trade why do you think that is?

It's not a nothing burger.

Think about it.

Huh? Everyone in this thread is saying of course that was part of the rationale for moving / not committing long term to Hart and you seem to be saying it was totally irrelevant and you're stupid for thinking otherwise?
Yes. I'm saying him trying to get good value for a guy that may not fit the rebuild timeline PLUS was replaceable has nothing to do with "OMG HE KNOWS HIS CAREER IS OVER"

Yes, because that's how the situation came to be - make sure everyone shuts up about it and toes the line. Don't say anything about shitty things that happen in the back room dealings of teams, certainly not in the places players are up to no good.

Seems like they've tried this and it's not the way.
Yeah, I'm thinking along these lines. Friedman might be bringing this up as a conversation starter. At any rate, while people who follow pro hockey day and night might have known, and believed that NHL players, coaches and execs knew, casual fans don't know that. Also casual fans don't necessarily know that there's a toxic can't ever talk about it ethic in hockey. And if he's one of the few hockey journalists (not investigative like Strang, Westhead, Kaplan) who can get away with starting conversations, he probably should. Even if that seems feeble to most here.

Friedman is always blowing wind with
"I wonder......blah , blah , blah

"I think ........Yada, Yada, yada

insider ? ha! 🤣

Friedman always wonders. Either GMs said something to him or they didn't.

Ffs.

Friedman appears for several hours per week on podcasts - do you guys think he's dishing out Insider information that entire time?

Yes, he speculates or throws out questions from time to time, which he always (or almost always) clearly poses as such. The notion that because he does that somehow disqualifies him as an insider is ridiculous. He clearly has a ton of connections and a proven track record. Not his fault if you guys can't differentiate between actual inside knowledge and clearly called out speculation.

Flyers wanted a higher price than teams were willing to pay.

Plenty of teams looking for goaltending. Plenty of teams wondering why a rebuilding team would ship off a solid young goalie.

Really not hard to connect the dots as to why a deal was never done. I don’t doubt NHL GMs are foolishly petty but no one bit for a reason.

This was an open secret in the hockey world. If Briere was trying to trade him, it was under the understanding that he was damaged goods, and basically Briere knew no more than the rest of the GMs about how imminent any charges may be.

It wasn't the price that scared teams off it was this.

They knew this was coming.

Nobody wants to deal with this.

Even if it comes out that he's completely innocent, all charges dropped his reputation is ruined.

If you recall, there was a brief moment where people thought he had been traded the same day as the Provorov trade

I do remember that, makes me wonder if there was a trade, then the other team found out he was getting charged, because remember this was supposed to come out in the summer, so It's possible the other team found out he was getting charged and called off the trade.

This is Friedman stirring up controversy, as he is wont to do. Especially when he says “I wonder,” which is his code for “I haven’t actually heard anybody say this, but it makes for juicy discussion.”

Every other GM with whom Briere would have spoken would have had just as much knowledge of Hart’s involvement as Briere did. Heck, all of us on HF were aware that it was possible Hart would ultimately be implicated. So any trade that ultimately would have been made would have taken into account the risk that Hart would eventually be implicated and the price would have reflected that. Or perhaps even have been contingent on a Police report clearing Hart’s name.
How is this some sort of code? It's speculation and he is transparent about it being speculation.

We know LA was in on him so I wonder if that was why.

who was the goalie the oilers nearly acquired when the deal fell off at the last minute? I think it was Carter. Usually when a deal fall flat at the last moment, the media is all over it but but this time they moved on very quickly.

The Bruins got massive, well earned, shit for doing extraordinarily lax and crappy due diligence on Mitch Miller. Including scrutiny from Bettman and Daly.

I hope any team/GM involved in signing or trading (to/from) any of these players get same level of scrutiny.

All due respect to Mitch Miller’s victim, but this shit show is orders of magnitude worse.

Further, I’d like to ask Gary Bettman — since the League has to sign off on all trades/signings (at least for Cap purposes) — whether HE specifically knew the names of those involved.

Bet you a dollar that he did.

The roster has 22 players (2G, 7D, 13F)

Three weren’t at the Gala or in London that night: Kyrou, Mete, Clague
So that’s 19 for sure.

Unless I’m mistaken it was announced that only CHL players were involved which eliminated the NCAA players: Makar, Fabbro, Point
That makes it 16.

Can we go by statements?

Alex Formenton: no statement
Well that ended up making sense.

How about statements that weren’t full denials of involvement?

Mike McLeod:

Arrested.

Dillon Dube:

Arrested.

Drake Batherson

Not arrested.

Boris Katchouk

Not Arrested.

How about full denials?

Oh. Huh.

That's not a full denial. That's not even a denial. The agent was literally sidestepping the question by referencing the original report, which we all know was faulty.

And? The players weren't banned from the league or anything like Miller was. What's he supposed to do? Suspend them based on rumors?
