Friedman "wonders" if there are GMs out there upset at Briere for trying to trade them Carter Hart

Not that Carter Hart is an amazing player or anything, but there's a reason why he didn't get moved. A starting goaltender at his cap hit is a good value.

Well, another reason I wonder is that trade was very odd. 5 draft picks and Foote for Jeannot. So did they pay a premium in-part to get Nashville to take Foote (in which case, both parties would have known prior to trade)?

Foote was included in the deal to free up roster/cap space. BriseBois simply overpaid for someone who played over his head for one season, just like he did when he signed Cirelli to a top-six center’s contract on the strength of one strong offensive season, or when he overpaid Gourde because playing with Point inflated Yanni’s production.

There’s no great conspiracy here - BriseBois just sucks at identifying outlier performance and anticipating mean reversion. Throw in the fact that Nashville had no reason to trade Jeannot absent a clear overpayment and there is precisely zero reason to blame that trade on anything else.

Is there anyone actually giving the Flames the benefit of a doubt?
Oh yah. Just go read the thread about the case. There was big discussion on the Flames tweet there yesterday and people giving them the benefit of the doubt.

Not that Philly needs any more bad news but if Briere was really going full used car salesman on the league I can't imagine anyone wanting to do him any favors in the future.

I'm pretty sure GMs don't do each other favors, but a measure of trust can always help get a trade done. If ever Brière is out in 3-5 years, his team hasn't progressed, and it's unclear why... we should think back to this.

So GM's are basically admitting everyone knew who it was and the NHL still allowed them to play.

And why shouldn’t it have? They hadn’t even been so much as charged with a crime, much less convicted of one (or at the very least proven to have engaged in conduct detrimental to the league.) Why do you think men should be stripped of their livelihoods and treated as though guilty of wrongdoing on the basis of mere accusation? That’s a VERY dangerous road to go down.

Wonder if this played a role in Cutter Gauthier refusing to sign in Philadelphia. I'm sure a lot of people in the hockey world knew exactly who the players involved were, could be some morals involved there if he didn't like the handling by Briere of trying to peddle Hart in that circumstance.

lol that's a joke for Friedman to propose
He is just trying to make it appear to casuals as though the entire league didn't know more than the average Joe on the street, seeing as how the entire league is culpable for allowing accused gang rapists to keep playing for over a year.

Well, except for the Melnyk sisters in Ottawa, who said "no effin' way" to that shit.

Wondering if they had insider knowledge of what went down with team Canada from a member of their current organization.
