Seems Friedman's being naive to me. If a GM didn't know, they're not doing their jobs. And even if they didn't have any concrete knowledge, any transaction involving a member of that Junior team should involve a raised eyebrow & a lot of scrutiny.

It still reflects badly on Briere who thought he could worm his way out of his organization's responsibility and still resolved to play the player. Could have waived him or sent him home or whatever but instead he played 81 games for the Flyers over the last 2 seasons.
That’s not the GM’s job it’s the executive’s job.

I honestly wonder if Friedman somewhat knows the answer to his own question, and is just trying to gently pry the lid up to get to all the bigger stories that might be out there regarding who knew what and when, and who did what about it?
I mean, there are a ton of things to "wonder about" in this situation, and the question posed about Briere is not very high on the list, not mine anyways. But it does have a "pure hockey" aspect to it that makes it innocuous compared to some of the other questions people have. Testing the waters so to speak.

Don't really understand the hate for Friedman here, he's just curious about it and it's something people wondered about when Tampa moved off of players who were on that WJC team. He's not even accusing anyone of anything lol.

People are just looking for reasons to get mad here.

THIS!!!

The HF elitists who know better than every journalist, analyst, insider, or media personality who are all paid to follow this league. Always the same when someone posts a player card too. "jFrEsH dOn'T kNoW dIcK."

Hard to believe with this spanning multiple organizations that the GM's didn't know. We also have no idea who created the rumor he was available. So what does PHI do in goal now? Thats a significant loss.

Roll with Ersson and Petersen.
Big blow right after Fedotov’s « kidnapping ».
Kolosov in his 4th KHL season next in line.
Drafted 2 goalies early last draft.

and Hart still innocent at this time.

I see. I doubt he will play hockey until due process has run its course, assuming he is innocent.

A man being ruled innocent ruining a persons career and life. Welcome to 2023
No one is ever ruled innocent. You can only be judged "not guilty", which can range anywhere from "actually innocent" to "the evidence isn't enough to convict even if it's pretty damning"

Formenton? He was obvious. One of the odder things about this incident is that 2 of the 3 names I heard thrown around the most weren’t the ones charged. I wonder if they are witnesses of some sort because if there is a lot of smoke, then there often is a semblance of truth in some way. Anyway, I’ve just find it interesting that I’ve seen quite a few posts saying Hart was always known. Maybe in league circles but I’ve never seen anyone here drop his name confidently online. Maybe I wasn’t in the right places though
I'd read speculation that Formenton was getting black-listed because he was cooperating with police and breaking the Omerta of the hockey world. Just goes to show how the right names can be mentionned but the speculation is off-base.

I think the fact that this speculation didn't implicate him criminally helped get it published, though (ie, no one will get sued for speculating that someone did nothing wrong)

Perhaps they weren't forthcoming with info, or they didn't know the extent of Hart's involvement.

And what, pray tell, is the extent of Hart’s involvement? Because at this point nobody knows for sure besides himself, the accuser, and perhaps one or more witnesses to either the alleged incident or to Hart’s presence elsewhere at the time it is alleged to have occurred. He could be a gang rapist or he could be completely innocent of any wrongdoing - nobody outside of that small group of people knows at this point, nor can they/we even make an educated guess until all the facts and testimony (not just the accuser’s story) are made public.
