Seems Friedman's being naive to me. If a GM didn't know, they're not doing their jobs. And even if they didn't have any concrete knowledge, any transaction involving a member of that Junior team should involve a raised eyebrow & a lot of scrutiny.

It still reflects badly on Briere who thought he could worm his way out of his organization's responsibility and still resolved to play the player. Could have waived him or sent him home or whatever but instead he played 81 games for the Flyers over the last 2 seasons.

I don't know man, usally open secrets tend to get out to the media pretty fast and it took a while for names to named.
Names were named a long time ago, if you knew where to look.

Hmmm Flyers are putting on the market their really solid 25 years old goalie, who has been linked to the 2018 investigation stuff

Hmmmmmmmm why would they want to offer up their 25 years old solid NHL goalies with question marks in the pipeline

I wonder if someone was foolish enough to have given Briere a major return for Hart , that it would be eligible for the trade to be VEto'd today.

That would be interesting, and would be a mess with all the cap ramifications etc...

If other GM's weren't aware of Hart being potentially involved they're idiots.

I was about to say... Do we know that they didn't already know Hart was part of the investigation, and do we know that, if they didn't, Briere didn't make them aware?

My guess would be somebody would've traded for Hart if they didn't already know that, and Briere would've taken a fair market or even "Low ball" offer, because he for sure knew that.

I guess it depends on what Briere may have done. Was he soliciting offers or just putting Hart's name out there. Where there real conversations? Did Briere misrepresent anything or downplay questions related to the Hockey Canada matter?

We'll likely never know anything, but I'm not sure Friedman is being naive without more details. It seems like there have been different levels of ...awareness or naivety... regarding the players involved. Only one player wasn't under NHL contract.

Montreal went from pursuing him to having him as a non-starter to improve their goaltending. Perhaps they dug a smidge deeper into all of this and pulled back?

And that’s maybe where Briere hurt his brand, if he at all tried to downplay or mislead partners instead of leveling with ‘em and saying “look, there’s risk, thus him even being available, we’re willing to take less in light of this.”

Man has Briere fallen in my eyes- who knows, maybe he’s the greatest guy, but I’ve heard he’s egotistical, unfriendly, and his boy seems a piece of work. Totally not connected, but kinda maybe, good culture doesn’t seem to go with Briere as of late.

Friedman is causing crap gratuitously. He should shut up on this.

Yes, because that's how the situation came to be - make sure everyone shuts up about it and toes the line. Don't say anything about shitty things that happen in the back room dealings of teams, certainly not in the places players are up to no good.

Seems like they've tried this and it's not the way.

On the Marek show this morning.

Friedman was discussing about how he wonders if there are GMs out there that might be peeved at Briere for trying to trade Carter Hart this off-season. He was speculating that this might be viewed as bad business and dealing in bad faith if Philly knew the magnitude of Hart's involvement in the alleged crime.

If you recall there were plenty of reports and speculation that Hart was available for trade this off-season and fall...It went so far as Hart unfollowed the Flyers in his Social Media accounts.

This isnt a good look on Briere nor is it good business practice to alienate the other GMs that youll need to make deals with in the future.
posters are misreading and understanding what the article is saying,

THE FLYERS WERE TRYING TO TRADE CARTER AND THE TEAMS THEY TALKED TO ARE PISSED THE FLYERS WERE TRYING TO SCREW THEM

Flyers where shopping Carter heavily in the off season but there were no buyers--now we know why. the article is not about team engaging trade talks to get carter but the Flyer's trying to dump the problem on someone else lap teams clearly knew and are happy about what the flyers may have been trying to pull off

Them and the FLAMES maybe the only 2 teams in the league that did not know about what was going.

Flyers were clearly trying to catch a team asleep at the wheel and take him off their hands

Anyone of the 23 players on that 2018 team you’d need to do your homework on to get a sense of their involvement. If they didn’t come out with a statement that they were not involved you have to question the remaining ones who did not issue a statement.

Or you just steer clear of all of them til the investigation is completed.

The roster has 22 players (2G, 7D, 13F)

Three weren’t at the Gala or in London that night: Kyrou, Mete, Clague
So that’s 19 for sure.

Unless I’m mistaken it was announced that only CHL players were involved which eliminated the NCAA players: Makar, Fabbro, Point
That makes it 16.

Can we go by statements?

Alex Formenton: no statement
Well that ended up making sense.

How about statements that weren’t full denials of involvement?

Mike McLeod:
"I am aware of the situation in 2018 and the investigation and I've been co-operative through the entire investigation and process, but since it's still ongoing, I'm unable to comment any further,"
Arrested.

Dillon Dube:
"All of CBC News' questions will be asked and answered during the pending NHL investigation. Dillon did not engage in any wrongdoing, and he co-operated fully with the independent London Police Service investigation in 2018, through which all players were then cleared of any wrongdoing.

"Naming Dillon or attempting to associate him in any way with alleged criminal wrongdoing, or alleging that he was not co-operative with the London police or was unwilling to co-operate with Hockey Canada, will constitute materially false statements constituting defamation causing serious financial and reputational harm," David Cowan, agent for Dubé wrote to CBC.

In a Sept. 23 media appearance, Dubé told a Sportsnet columnist that "I've co-operated in any way possible and will continue co-operating. I've done everything I can to co-operate."

"I will continue to do that. With it going on, I wish I could share more, but that's kind of all I can share up to this point," Dubé said.

He added to his statement the next day:

"With (the investigation) going on, I wish I could share more. But that's all I can share to this point. I would love to be transparent. I know that's all I can really say on it to be honest. For me, I wish I could tell."
Arrested.

Drake Batherson
"I've been co-operating with the ongoing investigations. Out of respect for the person involved, I'm not going to be making a comment on it now or in the future," Batherson told reporters at the Ottawa Senators training camp on Sept. 22.

He responded "no comment" to two followup questions.
Not arrested.

Boris Katchouk
"Boris has fully co-operated with the Hockey Canada investigation and will continue to provide that co-operation in any further investigation. Beyond this statement we are not commenting further," a representative wrote to Global News.
Not Arrested.

How about full denials?

Oh. Huh.
