This roster for the most part is good enough to win.
Get coaches that will motivate and delegate and that’s 1/2 the battle.
Trade Scheifele and whoever else won’t buy in.
This organization has to be right on top of issues and not wait until the situation is ugly.
This one.
Laine.
Kane.
Noel.
The TNSE loyalty issue hurts this club,it doesn’t help it.
Hard to believe Chipman wasn’t aware of them yet they grew into issues unabated.

This is a CAP team in the smallest market in the league (disregarding the Coyotes playing at a college). Lack of success, team trending the wrong way, rumours of a fractured locker room, openly disgruntled players, fragile makeup...Chevy HAS to BLOW IT UP.

I get waiting to the offseason. Sounds like there may be too many moving parts to start fixing this at the deadline.

Key is what Dubois wants to do. He has to be onboard for a complete team makeover. Maybe not Dillon's "10 guys" but I can see 5 or 6 faces out easily, including top players.
Dubois either signs a deal before draft or trade for a boatload to Montreal .

I think Dillon was at the top of the line of asking for a trade as I don't believe he ever wanted to come here.

One positive from all of this is that there is zero chance chipman and chevy will not learn from this.

There is a small and I mean small chance they start running this organization a little more cut throat and with winning first over loyalty now.

There is still a lot of time to cut out the rot and make players buy in again before the puck drops. Attitude and buy-in are crucial, and can be the main determinant themselves. Step one is hiring an accountable coaching staff.

Scheifele - be gone
Wheeler - demotion or buy-out
Vesalainen - he’s barely AHL material
PLD - should be coaxed to stay and given a large role
Stastny - not convinced he wants out
Hellebuyck - give him a defence this year
Heinola - give him 2nd pairing minutes
Schmidt - seems like a good guy, but a massive liability this year. I’m fine if he wants to leave.
Dillon - likewise.
Svech - not sure he gets many takers

I would be okay doubling back to Copp, and maybe even Laine in a trade for Scheif.

Morrissey - Pionk
Heinola - De Melo
Samberg - Chisholm/Gawanke/Kovacevic
Stanley

We could still use a #1 on the right but they’re hard to come by.
Morrisey-Petry
Heinola-Pionk
Samberg-Demelo
Stanley-Kovacevic
Chisholm-Gawanke

Nice depth.

The kane/bogosian trade was good, but I don't think it was amazing as we hoped it would be shortly after it was made.

All the pieces were gone last year and some of the pieces we got had minimal impact or less impact then we hoped due to various factors and had to be included in trades to get rid of contracts/even-up trades...Roslovic, Lemieux (he was disruptive so good riddance), Armia.

Myers had his moments of course, like that one round in the 2018 playoffs but he was too inconsistent to be more than a #5 defenseman on the good team. Missed nearly a full season too. Of course that is better than Bogo who missed tonnes of time every season and was prone to many a braindead play.

I was thinking back to our deadline deals of yesteryear too....Ladd got us a whole lot of blah....NHL washout Marko Dano and a draft pick that got us half of Logan Stanley (had to use another draft pick to trade up for him:ha:).

Saying Chevy makes the best trades and is elite at drafting is pretty exaggerated based on the entirety of the results so far. There is room for the middle ground on his tenure here.
Montreal is my trade Partner for PLD fixes many issues. Montreal is rebuilding again as Price is done. They Need a French Canadian stud who is gonna double his money with endorsements = PLD. Gallagher and Petry and Armia make too much $ and are too old for a rebuild team but could all help Winnipeg Quickly get to where they want to be. Montreal is gonna need to eat some of the $ and there will need to be a first round pick coming with them. Winnipeg would send some scraps to help Montreal like a Harkins as well. Vesalainen needs to get it going on the Ahl playoffs and then a new coach might be able to get more out of him next year. As For Schiefele highest bidder…

Connor, , Gallagher
perfetti, , Ehlers
Stastny,Gustafson, Wheeler
Vesalainen ,Lowry, Armia

Free agents first round picks whoever they get for Schiefele up the middle.

New coaches.

No decent free agent has ever signed here in the history of the franchise.
We're trading Dubois for a 1st and Gallagher's brutal contract and we're throwing in Harkins? Harkins is more valuable than Gallagher is.
If MTL wants Dubois, a 23 year old stud centre RFA then it's Suzuki or Caufield and a 1st.

At least you're consistent in creating trade scenario's with Montreal that are absolutely terrible for the Jets.

That lineup could definitely get the Jets in the running for Bedard. I assume that’s your goal because no one could actually think that lineup could contend, right?

"Willing to stay here"? "Willing"? I love how millionaire athletes with their guaranteed contracts (regardless of performance) use terminology like "willing to stay here", "need to hear the plan & talk to the agent before deciding what to do" when they are under contract for 2 more seasons.

So much entitlement, not only do you f***s get millions guaranteed no matter what you have the audacity to disrespect the term on those same guaranteed contracts?

I hope the next CBA really puts the screws on the players. Get rid of NTC/NMCs, get rid of signing bonuses and slash the salary cap a bit. So much entitlement.

Slow down. Perhaps "willing to stay" simply means Helle is willing to re-sign if the direction as laid out to him continues to be the case. Because if he wasn't or was uncertain, Jets should look at trading him as early as after next season. Helle giving an early indication actually helps the Jets. It shows he believes in management at their word.

Im not surprised by this. Helle has publicly praised not just the team but the management and franchise in interviews. Paraphrasing "I strongly believe in this organization" That he is willing to still believe in them even after what's been going on should actually be praised not frowned upon.

Also remember "willing to stay here" is not necessarily a direct quote from Helle. It could simply be an interpretation or summation by the insiders based on what they heard about Chevy and Helle's exit interview regarding his long term outlook with the team.

So your plan is we trade for a 30 year old winger that puts up 50ish points per year and plays a physical style (so also their body will break down) but also has 5 more years left on his deal at a $6.5M caphit, a 29 year old 4th line winger that makes $3.4M for the next 3 years and then the capper is a 35 year old Right D that really struggled this year and father time has clearly caught up with... and we can have all of these declining assets and anchor contracts for the low low price of our 23 year old franchise 1C???

Where do we sign up? 🤮

That's not the way I look at it. We get to trade our 1C for 16.15M in caphit! Amazing deal! Did I mention that the 3 players combined for 4 more points than Dubois had this season? Absolute steal.

That's a nice $250,000 per point, a nice upgrade from the $83,333 per point we were getting from Dubois.

Also the combined age of the 3 players from Montreal (91) - Dubois (23) = 68 years more life experience, and that is one number away from 69. That's really neat!

Gallagher had a brutal year and I'm not sure he's the same player he was before. Armia also had a pretty poor year, and Petry is 34 with 3 more years left on his deal.

Your trade is brutal and I'm not sure if you've noticed that you have 2 big holes in the two most important spots in a forward lineup.

We might have a shot at Connor Bedard though after that trade so there is a masterplan going on here!

Agree with substance of your post but bolded isn't quite true. 4th-line Jesus had plenty of suitors and worked his magic here for years, and Stats re-upped when he too could have picked his club, given his rep and numbers. We've also had several players who had options waive to come to this team.

So sure, we're not getting Tavares, but a winning team in a well-liked org is kind of the tide that lifts the FA ship, I think. Win, and they will come. Be mediocre or worse, and they will do what they can to avoid us. Losing is the great multiplier of negatives.

This did cross my mind pondering the off-season. It would not be the worst year to dust off the 'ol tank and pray to the heavens to win the Bedard sweepstakes.

It's a different calibre of year from what we've seen recently to end up with 1OA.

One real downfall for our Jets regarding the weather is they have to wait for our weather to warm up so they can do all that golfing they like to do instead of playing that hockey thingy ......... Bazinga . :naughty:

Agree. What kid in his 20’s wouldn’t play hockey for a mere $1M a year? Few to none.

Alternative is get a job and grind for 30 years like the rest of us.

But if you give them $10M of course they’ll take it. These ridiculous salaries and now ticket costs to support it are out of control. Yes to a lockout.

What do you expect a lockout to do?
Do you think owners are going to fight for a lower salary cap? They are not.
Owners are mostly happy with the way things are right now, other than the effects of a 2 year++ pandemic.
There are a few provisions they might tinker with. Nothing that is going to lower the price of a ticket. Nothing that is going to prevent players from getting lazy after signing a big contract.

Guys like Perreault are where the Jets have to find their non-draft players. Legit good, but undervalued by the league. Those players are getting harder to find with teams slowly catching on to analytics.
