Wennberg is coming off a down season. But we do not know that he stinks. He could be a change of scene guy like Karlsson. Also is is an outright upgrade on what the Rangers have currently. Johnson is the one that we know stinks. Him getting 1.15 million means it is 1.15 million that can’t be used elsewhere. It’s pretty black and white. Bitetto, who signed a vet minimum (I think) two way deal can do exactly what Johnson can.

I think management has done well not to overpay for some very questionable players. Koivu was a healthy scratch and fourth liner last year in Minnesota. Johnson is a scrappy player at $2.5MM, not $5MM. Athanasiou is Enver Lisin on steroids. Jack Johnson at $1.15MM is a a lousy signing but we can bury all but $40K in Hartford if necessary.

Eric Haula is still out there and so is Granlund. We also know that Vegas is going to shake loose a defenseman one way or another. That may be where the focus is right now.
