Okay so of the 7 players we signed yesterday, who are you most excited to see? Who do you think will contribute?

Dude, do you really think that JD and JG aren't trying to get better? Do you honestly think that they haven't talked to practically every other team? We are 1 f'ing day into free agency. We have a competent FO that knows what they need to do if the deal is there but they aren't going to force anything either. I trust JG and JD to do the right thing.

It can be argued that the pandemic is the reason we were able to get said super star. Even the league had continued without the outbreak the rangers would have likely continued with their great play and would have made it really close if not in to the playoffs. They likely would have lost the lottery. The adapted lottery format worked in their favor.
This is not at all what I am "arguing", arguing in quotes because my post about the pandemic is facetious. All I'm saying is that, with this franchise, even when we get lucky, we get unlucky.

Johnson is not holding up their other FA moves.

No matter what, they were signing someone to give them a buffer.

There is going to be a hesitancy to keep guys shuttling back and forth next season. A lot of younger players are going to stay put - be it in the AHL, or overseas on loans.

Additoonally, the Rangers didn’t have any desire to get into bidding wars for guys like Wennberg, nor do they want to keep bidding on Granlund.
Sounds like they are out on him then

Perhaps Gorton and company have discussed some potential trades with teams that haven't materialized yet that would improve the team besides free agency.

I mean if teams are going to want players to stay put as much as possible that strongly implies a 23 man roster with 3 healthy scratches.

Do NYR have that depth right now, with the players they have?

I think they are close with the D signings of Johnson and Bitetto IF they can add a legitimate top 4 LD. Otherwise after the first two, its kids.

On forward you have Blackwell, Rooney, and PDG as low end depth. But you really need to sign a legitimate 3rd line player or two that can push some of these guys even further down the depth chart.

Could explain the Kinkaid signing if they dont plan on trading Georgiev

The Kinkaid signing is to meet the expansion requirement. We needed a goalie we can expose, which is why we signed him to a 2 year deal.

Johnson, BTW, played 67 games last year. He only needs to play 3 games this year to meet the expansion requirement. Hajek would need to play 40 games and Bitteto would need 19 games.

When I hear Gorton, Davidson or Quinn saying we're not hard enough to play against I take it to mean something and from what I observed in the playin we are too easy to play against. Wennberg would not make us a harder team to play against. Koivu might have a few years back but not anymore. I'm not all that stoked over Granlund, Ty Johnson or Haula either. Clifford and Martin would make us tougher to play against. Grabner keeps opposition power plays on their toes. He is not really physical but he is like a wolf on the penalty kill. Brian Boyle is a big, strong physical player if only because of his size and a good face-off man and penalty killer. Nieto can be a buzzsaw of a checker. Fast is smart and disciplined and a good forechecker though not a heavy hitter. Joakim Nordstrom is good on the PK and will pound the boards and has no issue scrumming. I'm not interested in adding perimeter skill players and I don't believe we're going to get a quality top 6 player on the cheap in this free agent season like I think some people think Wennberg is. We need to aim at quality in bottom 6er's and more the take no prisoners types.
