Aston-Reese, Strome and Gagner are the only names I've seen people hint at "Don't be surprised" or "look out for".
Those hints have been a lot softer than the ones for Campbell, Kuemper, Gaudreau, etc.

Though I do think Aston-Reese would be a great addition. Strome could be solid, depending on the caphit, but if I'm a team like Buffalo, NJ, Detroit, etc, I'd be offering him something like 2 years X 4.5M, which the Leafs couldn't even come close to matching. Pretty low risk (even at that caphit) with decently big upside for teams with capspace, maybe some playoff aspirations, but no pressure to contend for a Cup.

So what's the under 2 mil free agent tier list looking like  Don't worry we'll find a gem while these other bums overpay for past performances.

The core is also the only thing they haven’t touched and the common denominator in all the playoff losses. It’s fair to say people are questioning the “big 4” strategy st this point because people don’t really care about a great regular season, it’s not a deep team.

Funny, the Leafs loss to Tampa wasn't because Tampa's top guys, it was their depth players who beat Toronto, namely Paul.

Leafs bottom 6 has to be changed, by at least a couple of players.

LOL ... joke all you want, he'd change the makeup of our 4th line.
Exactly the type of player we need. Teams like edm got evander kane who scored 13 play off goals and still talked the talked and rumbled feathers. We need EXACTLY those type of players who rumble unda presha. That's lemieux, not claude (who was the best and scored 13 too in his conn smyth season), but brendan, who is HIS SON. THEY WINNERS, ALL OF THEM. WE NEED THAT: If ain't get that, we ain't no winnas.

The poster said the team would regress in terms of a team. The team last year was better than it was the year before. Not sure who mentioned the playoffs until you did. I get that's the goal and I'm sure the Leafs execs are trying to achieve the same goals you have.

Like I said, wait until the dust settles, see what's up and be as frustrated or mad as you want.

Clear out holl and kerfoot and bring marchment back home and I'll force myself to like the murray trade. time to make amends scooby doo

doesnt have to be marchment exact but get some cap space back and fill in playoff friendly players with it

No idea what the Pens are thinking signing Letang and Malkin to those deals. My guess is that they expect to bottom out as those contracts age.

To me, it's a respect thing.

Those players accomplished so much, it'd be very shitty to disrespect them like that in their twilight years.

It very much will hurt them in the future but they're due for a tank anyway.

Some managers don't really care about term. They care about the short-term and being good while they are around. I guess Hextall and the Pens want to move that headache to whoever will take over the team in 3-4-5 years.

Some managers think a little more ahead of those things.

Yeah our cap situation in the future looks very clean. Rielly the only contract longer than 3 years left. We'll have all the room we need for when Matthews/McDavid are up or to reshape the team in whatever way if things go sideways.

Hextall is very much going the Lamoriello route.

Sign a bunch of bloated long-term contracts to bad or veteran players, get good for a bit, walk away (or get removed) when shit hits the fan.
