Lol at that trade to Seattle by Columbus. I know it's to be Compliant but wow.

I would have thought CBJ may have just wanted to trade Nyquist but I guess they wanted longer term savings.

On one hand, it is definitely light for CBJ. On the other hand, Bjorkstrand at 5.4 mill is not exactly a "steal" of a contract... He is mostly just getting paid what he is worth. I don't think he has PPG ability, and the year he just had is probably as good as it is going to get. Have to remember that Gaudreau likely cuts directly into his minutes too.

Seattle did well to get another guy who can plug right into their top 6 for practically no cost.

Awful trade for the Jackets. Doesn't sound good on the Kerfoot value.

Kerfoot doesn't have a 5.4 mill cap hit with even more salary paid out. Add in that Bjorkstrand has a NTC which likely includes most of the teams that had the cap space to take him on and Seattle was probably the best they could do if they wanted out.

Columbus had no other options unless they could find a taker for Voracek or Nyquist.

It is not like Bjorkstrand was bringing surplus value on that deal either. He is a pure offensive winger with loads of PP time and he only marginally had more points than Kerfoot did with zero PP time. They added Gaudreau which eats into Bjorkstrand's minutes so I would not be surprised if CBJ expected a major regression out of him and they decided to get out of it before it could have potentially gone south.

Outlandish bet of the day: Islanders move Bailey (or Palmieri) to either Anaheim or Calgary in a similar type move and then use the cap space to swing for Kadri after losing out on Gaudreau.

Kadri plays their abrasive style, I think Kadri could see them as a "win-now" team, and they would have the cap space (after moving out Bailey) to sign him to a large deal.

Nelson moves to the wing where he can split draws with Barzal, and Kadri becomes their new 2C.

We still aren't likely getting a lot for Kerfoot or Holl, but it explains why they haven't been moved yet, if that's the current market.

That being said, all we have to do is move Holl, and we are cap compliant, but with a 20 man roster, and not much room to maneuver with short term injuries.

These guys just traded a top line winger in his prime on a good contract for nothing

Brutal asset managment....

As long as Holl is gone it’s still a positive if Leafs don’t have to add anything. Hopefully he’s moved somewhere within the division as that will help us.

At which point he will become an all world defender, and shut down Matthews every time he plays him.

Bjorkstrand is certainly a value-plus contract. Probably a steal. He's got 142 pts in 185 games (since 2019-2020 when he broke out). Makes 5.4M only. He plays on one of the poorer offensive teams in the league during that time frame (22nd out of 31 teams, well 32 if you include Seattle) and is not a defensive negative player. He's a 7M player making 5.4M

Wish we'd have dealt Kerfoot and Holl by Now. Could have gotten a great top 6 winger in Bjorkstrand

Would have easily offered Sandin + 1st + Kerfoot for Bjorkstrand. We only take on 1.9M but get a legit top 6 player whose shown he can generate and convert offensive setups. Could move Nylander to LW and play him at RW or vice versa

Even aside from the 10 team veto involved, the Bjorkstrand trade seems a little light on the return. Good move for a Seattle team that I'm sure is looking to push forward.

Ya Nylander sat out half a year to get his extra few hundred thousand or 1 million or whatever and people think he will basically take a 1 million pay pump after putting up far better numbers on his current contract. Idk

Nylander reportedly was convinced the leafs were going to sign him just to trade him. So didn’t want to give. Discount just to leave.

Who knows what he will do. Maybe a NMC would help? Maybe not.

Unless a team really values saving on money, Kerfoot is basically untradable

A significantly better player (two if you look at Pac-man from VGK) got dumped for a 3rd and a 4th.

Thought Kerfoot could bring a 2nd+ back.

Doesn't seem likely now

Seems like it will be an entirely different market. Seattle made a long term play with that trade, and CBJ got long term cap savings. CBJ had very few options without considering his NTC and his almost 6 mill per year salary over the last 4 years of his deal.

IDK if they trade him now or what, but WPG has a ton of cap space and a ton of needs up front if they are still considering themselves a competitive team. They actually make a lot of sense for a guy like Kerfoot if he doesn't have them on his NTC.

Jarmo is the most bipolar GM in the game.

...You see Bjork get moved for a 3rd and are wishing we'd offered Sandin + 1st for him?
