We all trade Nylander constantly (I've even been guilty of putting him in hypothetical deals)...I think it'll be absolutely hilarious if he's the only of the 3 (Matthews, Marner, Nylander) that stick around to be a career Leaf lol Really hope Matthews & Marner spend their careers here though. Truthfully it's Tavares I want to move on from most, but that's not likely to happen
I believe I’d have a different reaction if Nylander was the only one to stay. Anger and sadness is probably what I’d be feeling

Really love that deal for Nashville. 2 years is great value. It also takes away the Leafs best trading partner if they were willing to deal Nylander.

Wow that sucks. Really was hoping we could convince him into a 1 year x 3.5M deal. He was a perfect fit IMO

It's a pretty good deal for the Predators for sure. With Engvall signed at $2.25, moving both Kerfoot and Holl for futures doesn't get that deal done. We'd have only $3.32 mil in cap space, if Sandin signed for $1.5 (which is unlikely, if Sandin is at $2 mil, we have $2.8 mil in cap space). The only way to have signed Nino is moving Kerfoot AND Muzzin.

He's a good player. Why are we looking to move him?
You can trade out good players and acquire good players. I don't know why people act as if you can't get good players in return for Nylander. I was proposing Nylander, Holl for Tomasino, Fabbro and then chase Nino in FA over the weekend which would have improved the Leafs for the years to come while alleviating cap for the next two years.

I think many/most people believe he wants to go to St. Louis.

Whether it is a sign and trade or a trade and sign it will likely be long term, IMO. Too much risk about walking after 2 years. There is now history about his commitment to a team.

St. Louis has a cap situation, and my guess is the Flames want younger, long term players, and Thomas/Kyrou would fit that category. Although Schenn would also work, and it isn't far from his home.

If it is either of the younger players, St. Louis has to move some Cap. Curious if Tarasenko could end up involved.

Tarasenko and Thomas/Kyrou
for
Tkachuk extended

EDIT: Guess I should have read this first. Why would Tkachuk not want to sign long term in Calgary? Where could he end up?
I’m sure he wants to end up in St Louis too, but I think Calgary has to create all the leverage they can.

For Tkachuk, the absolute best case scenario is he takes the 1 year qualifying deal at 9M and goes right to UFA to sign another 7 years OR he he signs 8 years and moves.

I feel like for Calgary, they want whichever route gives the best return. I’m not convinced the best return is a deal where he signs long-term. I’d be trying to sell Tkachuk on a huge 2 year deal which will walk him to UFA but also sends him to a contender. I think it could be a win-win if the Flames are willing to eat a bit of money.

Who says no to a 2 year 24M deal that walks him to UFA? Then retained at 50% to a contender? Probably Calgary because thats 12M in cash for a guy that is no longer playing there but I think thats a win-win-win in terms of $$$ for player, return for Calgary and cap hit for contending team.

Just trying to get a bit creative to maximize the return.

Explain how Nylander+Holl for Fabbro+Tomasino+Nino wouldn't improve the Leafs for years to come.
I am one of Tomasino's biggest fan - watched him grow in Niagara in person. However, there is really no way to look at this and think we got better unless Fabbro is much better than I am understanding. Losing Nylander and Holl and adding those 3 looks like a definitely net loss to me.

Wow some news finally.

Nino deal is great value in today's market for Nashville.

The Kappy deal is okay. I feel like he had so much upside but it hasn't ever really worked out for him.

I'd think that bodes well for getting decent returns on some of the guys that may be traded by the Leafs at their cap hit.

Jesus that’s disappointing, would have been a great fit here.

Wow I expected $4.5+ mill AAV and 4-5 year term. The Leafs should have been all over that.

He could have put up points in the top-6 here and been in the limelight.

You know Edmonton would have been waiting at the dawn of free agency with that $5+ mill AAV contract too once his contract with the Leafs ended.
