You'd have to think that Tkachuk would be a perfect line mate for Tavares. Completely different skill set from Nylander, someone who can crash the boards, fight for pucks and still has the hands to score and set up his teammates.

Then he can reunite with his buddies Marner and Matthews for a deadly PP1. Just makes so much sense.

I don't disagree but it's a pipe dream.

The difference between Matthews and Tkchuck leaving Canada is that one has the chance to be greatest player to ever play for a historic team and break records, that means something in comparison to becoming the greatest player in history for a California team, no one cares about that. I also don't think Toronto will ever allow Matthews to leave the franchise.

Anyways, I don't think Dubas has the balls to swing for Tkchuck to come to Toronto, but he would be a hell of a player to get and change the team up in a big way. Salary wise, it would defenintly have to be Nylander going the other way, but with him having only 2 years left on his contract, I doubt Calgary would entertain it, if they are going to trade a Signed Tkchuck, its going to be for someone with term.

I don't see many teams out there being able to trade 1st round picks and prospects and being able to add 9.5m/10m in capspace without any money going the other way.

Barkov or Huberdeau (extended) in some transaction for Tkachuk would work Cap wise.
Barks very huberdeau marner are not the guys that any team would move for Tkachuk. That’s not making your team better that’s just rearranging the deck chairs.

Tkachuk will return the lesser guys plus a good procreations plus first pick

Nylander sandin first for example not super star for super star

Nylander was actually born in Calgary and him being their go to guy, I can definitely see him staying in Calgary if they can manage a hockey deal for Tkachuk opposed to a rebuilding package in return.

Nylander still has 2 years and has a history in Calgary. Sandin would likely get a long term deal and would be huge for them.

Tkachuk at 8 years for us would at the very least be insurance in the event Matthews does leave and Tavares starts declining. But you'd have to think that this would probably help with keeping Auston around.

Sam Steel would be a cheap solid addition as our 4th line center. Solid two-way player who can still improve. Might gel well with Aube-Kubel.
You have to ask yourself why a team as bad as Anaheim wouldn’t give a qualifying offer to a 24 year old who had 20 points in 68 games

I think it’s because he was a team member of the 2018 junior team embroiled in controversy

Definitely the team has to have cap space and moving minor pieces won't free up $10mm.

From the rumoured teams Flames will want quality, if it is cast offs they'll just keep him.
They don't have to move him.

I'm very curious to see the deal for him, I think it's going to be a hockey trade, a signed Tkchuck for someone else signed with term. From a Calgary perspective, I don't think they can afford to even risk the chance of the player walking in a few years like Nylander.

Tkchuck has a lot of power here because he can walk himself to UFA and I don't think any team is going to trade for him without a extension in place.

Flames don't want any risk.
Just want the revenue.
Of course Ontario government paid for SBA, right?

That's what I'm saying the flames should have sacked up and paid the little extra to get it done. Was pretty trash what they pulled

I don't think AM will pull what they pulled

I'd argue Tkachuk is the missing piece for Nylander hitting 90-100. Forget JT, let the young stud eat for once.

Nylander and Sandin for Tkachuk is fair in terms of value, I think.

Nylander may give them a higher chance of re-signing, has a contingent of Sweden there already in Lindholm, Backlund, Markstrom and Andersson there.

For a ripe top 6 forward, Calgary will probably be open to this deal one would think.

Toronto takes a huge chance here, though as there is no way we're fitting in Tkachuk with Matthews contract coming up shortly. Not even sure he wants to play in Canada.

No. Matthews is better and younger and likely to re-sign.
Likely? Wow, even dekes is hedging.

The Ontario government paid for an American baseball team's stadium which ended up getting sold to them for less than 10% its original cost. That was good, right?

Seravelli already said he thinks Matthews is a Leaf for life and he's loving his time in Toronto. Toronto has generally done well in keeping Americans around in Kessel plus Gardiner, JVR etc all wanted to re-up here.

We just need to have some post-season success this upcoming year but also draft/develop well, there is a second window opening I think once JT's contract is over. We just need to keep Matthews and Marner.

Steel is just under 200 NHL games and hasn't been very good. Even if you take away the off-ice stuff, I can understand why the Ducks didn't qualify him

Bunting - Matthews - Tkachuk
_______ - Tavares - Marner

or

Bunting - Matthews - Marner
_______ - Tavares - Tkachuk

filthy either way. id move heaven and earth to get it done

I don't see Nylander as being an attractive piece for Calgary in a Tkachuk trade.

They're going to want blue chip futures to jumpstart their retool, not guys with two years of term left in their deal. I also don't see how the Leafs balance 4 10-11 mil forwards for even one season.

Tkachuk is just unrealistic for the Leafs on many levels. Don't even think it conversation-worthy.

I'd be more interested in the fall-out and what players become available after trades likes this. Toffoli, for example, would be a player of interest if Calgary decides to blow it up. But its unlikely
