So a Bunting type?

Who is out there with that kind of upside at under $1m? That's kind of what I thought Milano could be.

There are some interesting players that weren't qualified.
Some came with hype that has fizzled.

Jonathan Dahlen?

A dangerous offensive dynamo, Dahlén is a shifty scorer-slash-playmaker with refined technical skills and excellent overall awareness. Furthermore, an agile and creative player with great character. Handles the puck well at top speed and has great vision. Good work ethic and a very capable two-way player. [EP]

If either one of them has it figured out, they’d be elite players. We’re swapping the tin man for the scarecrow.
Yeah that's how it goes. It only comes down to the team chmistry/energy factor after all. The reason wright did not get chosen in the first three rounds.... puljujarvi is stupid in a different manour. He puts his tongue to his nose and doesn't know what's going on.... instead of wright only talkin bout himself (I I I I I I I), that's why other teams didn't draft him. Puljujarvi doesn't understand all what people around say to him or they be talkin... he is in his own zone and doesnn't understand all the humour etc. That's why edmonton is laughing at him and they don't want him to play with mcdavid and draisaitl no more. These raports have been coming out for long time now.

Me too.

I am curious what people think of the value at the core of this proposed deal. Who says no?
Makes the leafs a more well rounded team. Not sure the Canucks would value 2 years of Nylander that high unless they are sure they can resign him and they have their own RFA's due big raises.

Leafs probably do this but it's a huge risk given the goaltending situation. If they lose Miller after this year and the goalies fall apart they have pretty much exchanged Nylander for Garland.

Canucks would probably like to trade them separately for a ton of futures and a bit of expiring cap.

or give him Engvall's spot.

I'm really hesitent to pay Engvall I think last year was his career year, he never did anything close to what he did last year prior to last years I don't think he can do it again.

I think Engvall's ceeling is Robertson's floor baring injury.

I don't know what Robertsons floor might be but do agree it might be time to sell high on Engvall. I think a player like Milano can produce as much with the same minutes and spot time in the top 6 as well.

I think he'd be very good at the wings for JT. that's just my view on it since he can dish as well.

No clue a lot of that is happening this season.

I think they are in a different transition period...
Grier wants hard players to play again. He wasn't a fan of Dahlen who apparently can be soft at times.

Lots of great players available to re-build the bottom 6. You have to think we're not done here and will add a couple bargain players. I'd love to get our hands on one of Milano, Heinen, Nino

I'm guessing he'll be doing that through the draft and tanking.

Man he inherited some real garbage contracts.

I think Nino would be ideal...LW who can use his body and does have the skill set I think we are looking for.

Except I think he'll come in over what Kerfoot's cap is.

Perhaps Leafs should just go with 3 top lines and a penalty killer.
I am not sure...I feel like there is a trade a foot but we aren't getting it because there is still some signings and mess we have to go through.

For JT...if we get someone that can set him up more...Tavares will be more product but we need a player that has some grit that can slide up and down in the lines,

Because Campbell's a project himself
People also forget Matthews contract is up in 2 years. Dubas probably doesn't want any contracts that could make it tight to sign him at whatever number he will make, who ever the GM is at that time. It can't be by accident all his contracts have been in the 1/2 year range. I know Jankrok got 4 years but 5 million is different than 2.1.

Good points.

The Leafs would be gaining cap space in a Nylander for Garland deal too and have him for a few years. Interesting side note:. Garland 5 on 5 is not a big drop from Willy offensively.

Canucks could still trade Nylander and might get more than they would for Miller, given it is a two year rental.

Similarly, they could trade Kerfoot for decent value too...he is on $750K in real dollars.

Not a great sign for people hoping he's going to take any sort of discount. Seems like we're lining up to take it from both him and Willy

Very easy to move that contract to at that cap hit as well, regarding Jarnok.

I wonder if we can somehow pry Scott Laughton from the Flyers...Dunno how he is like anymore I rememeber liking him at the time.

Wonder why not qualified?

First year in NHL age 23-24.

Sharks are a mess though so who knows?

He would probably get north of one mill on his tender. He is a pure offensive guy who struggled to put up offense at ES (and was not amazing on the PP either), even though he was not terrible at generating chances. Not very good in his own end (which more than neuters any good he does by generating chances). Not good in tight areas.

Dahlen has not been very good in North America. He is a guy who needs space that he does not have very often in North America. There is not a ton of room for depth scorers who bring nothing but offense, and there are dozens of guys who can bring more offense (and other things) than he does for cheap (i.e. Janmark, who just signed with EDM for 1.25 mill and at least has excellent speed). Some bottom feeder team may give him a shot to cheaply fill a role, but I feel like he is going to go right back to Timra like he did the last time he was in North America.

Janne Kuokkanen (non-tendered by NJD) has had a similar fate as an offensive guy who hasn't provided enough defensive value, but given he does have some size, he may be developed into something with some time and patience. He is only 24 and should look for an opportunity to be a AAAA in an organization which can develop him and may need cheap depth in the near future (like the Leafs, Bolts, Avs, Panthers, etc.).

I mean Matthews' raise over his current deal isn't going to be massive. Even if he gets $15m that's only 3.5m more. Not something you have to plan too hard around.

Dubas just handed Rielly and Jarnkrok deals that go past Matthews expiry.

And not giving term to 30+yr old goalies probably has nothing to do with Matthews.

One thing Dubas has consistently shown is that he doesn't like signing guys past their early 30s. All of Tavares Muzzin Jarnkrok expire at 34 and Brodie at 33. The only guy signed past 34 is Rielly who's signed to 35.
