It is not all about offensive ability. I mean how much offensive ability does Kubel bring ?? As @Stephen said, youth, energy levels and willingness to get into the mix.

Exactly. The problem with over stacking offense is when it goes cold you can’t rely on any other ways to win games. Sometimes you have to grind your way to those 2-1, 3-2 wins where all your goals are rebounds and mucker goals after cycling in the corners / low for 30-45s.

I think Sandin wants to see a path forward on this team at LD.

You'll see some on here that would give up Nylander for almost anything but in reality there isn't an obvious fit. In the most polite way possible, I don't think New Jersey has pieces that they'd be willing to give up to make it attractive to trade Nylander.
Fair enough re sandin and spot on re willy

Pezzetta is exactly the kind of guy we don't need in our lineup.

We might as well just use Simmonds or Clifford again.
Pezzetta would never stop taking dumbbell penalties with the Leafs. We don’t get away with the kind of headhunting running around that he does. Career AHLer when the shine goes off, and it always does with his type, Or a real fighter like Reaves knocks him into next week.

Cheap contract, but he’s pretty vanilla for the bottom 6

I don’t know what a lot of people here see in Tierney, I’ve seen enough in Ottawa that I’m very underwhelmed, not a lot of anything there.

Up to 1M he was always a worthwhile grab. Decent offensively, didn`t wanna be a Senator. If he truly didn`t look like an NHLer, he was a demotion option and wouldn`t have effected the cap in a bad way.

Ah well, there is still some other good options.

From what I’ve seen he gets himself in great scoring position and messes it up somehow. And that goes back to his shark days. He would be just as good a try as Malgin I guess.

Not a natural finisher, good hockey sense.

He really wanted to be a Leaf, I think if you got 8-12 goals and 25-30 pts out of a 3-4C like him (depending on the year he`s having) it`s not bad use of 750-1M

Pretty sure Tierney has been nursing some sort of injury (back?) For a while now. Probably why he's stunk the last bit.

I would've loved Pacioretty and would've completely ignored Gaudreau if that was the cost but I can't fault Fitz for going all in for the best UFA. That was really smart by Carolina to do that trade with the Isles and Devils busy with Gaudreau on Wednesday. Would love Garland, JVR is meh imo but I wouldn't mind it if the Flyers wanted to cap dump him but I doubt it. The time for that would've before Wednesday. Poolparty would be a good add imo but I don't think he would be the guy I'd want now, would've loved Zacha swap for him before we traded him to Boston. I don't think Wheeler makes much sense either too.
i would have made room for a guy like paciotetty. i think he’s the big body guy who would have gelled into our top six and added some personality.

Id sign Sandin to a one year and say show me!
Sandin doesn’t want that. He wants to get a bigger deal next year and will be in the press box maybe 30-40 games where his stats will stagnate, so a 1 year deal doesn’t help him. I think he’d take a 1 year if the number was $2.5m or so

What about something like this...

Sandin for Crouse

Could make the deal bigger, but this is a simplified version.

Larger version could include Holl and a prospect (?) included for Hayton?

Wouldn't have him as a regular, but I would have given him that deal to be 5th/6th on the C depth chart

I liked him as a 4C option, and he fits Florida's reclamation structure, but I don't think he is a guy who would easily clear waivers and we should be giving our prospects (Abruzzese, Holmberg, etc.) the top 6 spots on the Marlies.
