Because he's a mid-20's fringe AHL D?

As compared to mete and benn?

I’m not crying about this player either way. I just don’t understand why the difference between a 1 way and a 2 way would matter?

Is it because there are different contract allotments for 1 way and 2 way deals?

Like how we signed a bunch to AHL deals to save contract? I’m trying to figure out the logic.

Did we let him go because of no room/he sucks? Or because of the 1 way thing?

No idea. Perhaps they didn't feel he was close enough to the NHL to get a 1 way deal and maybe they didn't see an NHL future for him? I don't really know, I wasn't there. lol

But this happens every year...and it's good for the players too. They now have the opportunity to see if there is a path to the NHL in another organization.

Yes I guess it could be a Leivo thing “if you aren’t going to use me let me find a team that can”

Ottawas D sucks. So that makes sense

Yep. I believe that's the case here.

It will be interesting to see if he can make Ottawa's D.

Catching up. That Norris deal looks Suzuki-level atrocious. That's a solid 2M+ too much for a guy that had an obscene sh%, a lot of powerplay production, and average driving stats. I'd be pissed about that deal if it was us, but Sens fans seem excited.

Sad that Strome was signed by Washington. I was really hoping to just swap him and Kerfoot essentially while picking up assets, and they signed to the exact same amount.

Benn is bad. Like really bad. Let's hope he doesn't play unless there are injuries or when we play a team that does some dirty ass shit. Mete is a great #7. Doesn't produce too much, doesn't hurt you either direction and has an excellent break-out pass.

Yeah Benn seems like a "Well we lost out on a couple options, I guess you'll do".

This is what peak performance looks like

Aube-Kubel and Samsonov are really the only pickups I like so far.

The rest seems like forgettable depth.

I'm sure more moves are coming but there's a lot of meh in this considering Dubas wanted to rebuild the bottom 6.
Need signings for the Marlies too.

But yeah, right now it's NAK, Kampf, Engvall, Anderson, one of Kerfoot/Robertson, and one of Simmonds/Clifford.

Today is around the time we should be able to capitalize on some guys markets haven’t developed for.

I think it’s clear at least one of Holl/Muzzin/Sandin will be moved.

Sam Steel, Sonny Milano, PK Subban, Calle Jarnkrok, Mattias Janmark, Zach Aston-Reese, Tyler Motte, Danton Heinen, Rem Pitlick

All could be some names

Our bottom six was pitiful last year when it mattered and it's looking significantly worse now.

Lots of solid middle six forwards on the board, Milano being the one who stands out to me.

Yep. And may even stretch into the next couple weeks. The leafs didn't sign Bunting (a likely main target for them) until almost the end of July last offseason

I expect they'll start picking off guys like Zach Aston-Reese off the market sooner than later.

I really hope Dubas doesn't sign anyone else.

We need to give our young lads some good NHL experience. NHL experience is NHL experience
We have to find out what we have in Robertsson, Steeves and Anderson.

Anthony Cirelli, Jhonsson, Palat all internal players for Tampa. Even when they were young they played a lot in NHL

Stop signing aging vets like Joe Thornton, Wayne Simmonds. They just take away good spots from young lads

Stay the course Kyle. Don't sign aging vets. Play your own home grown players

I think the Leafs will still likely add 1 more forward. Mirtle did say on the last Leafs report podcast that the Leafs do intend on giving some Marlies a look in the bottom six to start the season (didn't name any specific names though)

Mete and Benn are way better than Rubins. Rubins is a Wade Belak/Andy Wozniewski defenseman: takes a nice picture, looks like an NHL defenseman in scrimmages and an ECHL defenseman in NHL games.

One forward would be nice especially if they can handle center but I do think that Robertson should get a real look at that 2nd line LW slot this year and I'd like to see all of Holmberg Steeves Abruzzese Anderson and maybe even Douglas getting looks on the 4th line this year.

Please get Milano for JT and Nylander...more so Nylander. He will make him a 20+ goal scorer. I just know it.

Milano, Heinen, Donato, and Pitlick would be decent bargain pickups for a second line LW. I think I'd lean towards Milano first.

ZAR or Motte for the 4th line would be interesting to pair with NAK. I think I'd prefer Motte.

Jarnkrok would be a good centre pickup as well, can kill penalties.

ZAR definitely. Donato could be an interesting add to help replaces Soup's offense. The guy had 16 goals in 74 games last season with decent possession stats

100% agree .. I think bringing in a forward who can be competitive for that spot to push Robertson would be good, but they also could play well in a checking role on the third line.

I wonder if Milano could be that guy. Donato and Heinen could too.

I also find that Kerfoot does not seem to have a defined role ... Are they going to roll it back with Kerfoot at LW with JT and Nylander? If not, where does he play?
