I also find that Kerfoot does not seem to have a defined role ... Are they going to roll it back with Kerfoot at LW with JT and Nylander? If not, where does he play?

Honestly I think he replaces Mikheyev pretty perfectly on that 3rd line.

Engvall-Kampf-Kerfoot? I haven't seem him play the right side - unless Engvall can.

That could work...

Bunting-Matthews-Marner
Robertson/Milano-Tavares-Nylander
Engvall-Kampf-Kerfoot
Steeves/Holmberg/Abruzzese-Gaudette/Douglas-NAK/Anderson/Malgin

Doesn't add the size/physicality necessarily but there are a lot of Marlies that could vie for spots.

Yep. And may even stretch into the next couple weeks. The leafs didn't sign Bunting (a likely main target for them) until almost the end of July last offseason

I expect they'll start picking off guys like Zach Aston-Reese off the market sooner than later.
Free Agency just started later IIRC cause Bunting was done before noon on day one and one of their first official signings announced just after noon.

I do think the point stands though that they are just waiting it out and hope to get some guys who are undervalued. Balcers only getting league min in FLA was an encouraging sign for TOR's likely ability to do that here soon.

Engvall played the right on the soup kampf engvall line right?

Engvall and Kerfoot can play all three F positions really.

Yes they can and that actually is a big plus.

Whom is y'alls players whom y'all wanted to play for us this season? Meaning whom would y'all like dubas to still get for us?

I think we missed on some guys like Larsson for the 4th line, Definitely on Desrlauriels with that price. Maybe they didn't want to play in canada or something. But if not inquirring these.. would be a mistake for real.

Lots of solid middle six forwards on the board, Milano being the one who stands out to me.
Agree 100%.

Boston had a bunch of "who the hell is that" in their bottom 6 when they beat us in 2018. Kuraly Acciari Schaller Heinen, none of us ever heard of any of these guys really, and as isolated individuals they are not that exciting. However their team just worked. One players flaws was accounted for in another's strength. The tenacity to retrieve the puck by their 4th line was very impressive. On top of that they had some oldies Rick nash and david backes who weren't that good anymore. That's 50% of the forwards right there plus some games where they played riley nash and wingels.

There are names left that aren't flashy, but they can be assembled in a way the team as a whole is strong.

We are blessed with top heavy stars such that we can moneyball this and not have to pay guys like mik and burakovsky. Let's see what Dubas comes up with out of the remaining names. A few will be value contracts, hopefully we get some hits. I am not a fan of how Dubas assembled the remainder of the roster in the past but I still have some patience left for one last try.

Just a complete lack of size and physicality overall. You'd have to hope that the 4th line has enough offensive talent, to punish teams that way. Douglas won't be in the pictures until next year at the earliest. You'd have to think that we might move some bodies to find a bit more size, and physicality. The unfortunate thing is, we brought in some of that size to the forward group last year in Ritchie, and he plain sucked.

In losing Kase and Mikheyev, we also lost two of our top 5 PK forwards. None of the Free Agents are really PK guys.

It was said that Aube-Kubel was brought in the replace Mikheyev (or Malgin).

So I think as it stands.....

Bunting - Matthews - Marner
Kerfoor - Tavares - Nylander
Engvall - Kampf - Aube-Kubel/Malgin
Robertson/Clifford/Malgin/Aube-Kubel/Simmonds/Anderson/Gaudette.

Aube is fine on the fourth but he can't play on your third. We need some scoring from our third line especially during the business end of the season. That's why we need either another top 6 and kerf comes down, or kerf and holl get traded and we fill the top 6 spot by committee.

Adds some size, physicality, and PK ability to the team. I have five forward lines listed here, so basically it's Anderson, Malgin, Gaudette, Holmberg battling for the last game day roster, and one press box spot. McLeod replaces Kampf after this season in the lineup.

In losing Kase and Mikheyev, we also lost two of our top 5 PK forwards. None of the Free Agents are really PK guys.

but none of the top-3 PK Fs - Kampf, Marner, Kerfoot....and Engvall got just about as much PK time as Mikheyev and Kase anyways.

Yes, but Engvall had poorer results as well. Even so, you'd want to add more utility, at least IMO.

Have to think we're going to sign a couple guys upfront and/or make a trade or two. The forward group is essentially the same.

In the model of what we did on defense yesterday I would be into any of the following on sub 1 million contracts if they are willing:
Donato
Raffl
ZAR
Milano
Motte
Sanford
Connolly
