I think a Nylander for Holtz + McLeod + 2023 1st is a deal that could really help both teams. Holtz looks very ready for the NHL and I believe he puts up atleast 50 points this season.

Team is still soft and lifeless. Our top 9 especially.

Really needed a Power forward type of player in there. Doesn't look like thats gonna be the case.

That Tavares contract really did a number on the Leafs

2 late penalties lost us the series against Tampa. We're baddass. If anything, we need to get softer.

I don’t blame the refs there, angles are hard and the game moves so fast, but it still burns me Foote’s sell job on the non high stick, high stick got the ref to bite. We still had the chance to overcome that and win and didn’t, but man, if that first call doesn’t happen, then there’s no Kerfoot penalty and who knows what happens…

Sign Jarnkork and ZAR; trade Holl for a pick; Simmonds on waivers

Bunting Matthews Marner
Kerfoot Tavares Nylander
Robertson Jarnkrok Engvall
ZAR Kampf NAK

Rielly Brodie
Giordano Liljegren
Muzzin Sandin
Benn

Murray
Samsonov

3rd line can be productive and you have a very responsible 3C. 4th line is perfect, high energy, defensively responsible and can chip in here and there.

Kadri seems to be holding up the market. I wonder if he didn't get the offers he thought he was getting

Watching a diminished Tampa team make it back to the finals one thing that is clear is how those guys will do whatever it takes to win.

Whether it's thru legal means - blocking shots with reckless abandon, hitting, clogging lanes, etc. Or the not so legal ways - dirty hits/shots, flopping, phantom high sticks, whatever it takes to win.

In the model of what we did on defense yesterday I would be into any of the following on sub 1 million contracts if they are willing:
Donato
Raffl
ZAR
Milano
Motte
Sanford
Connolly

I don't think Milano, Donato, Sanford, or Connolly make sense for us at all. Sanford and Connolly would struggle in the same way that Ritchie struggled. Not enough skating ability to keep up. Donato and Milano can be decent depth offensive forwards for cheap, but neither are very good in their own end and he doesn't have the offense to make up for it. Same with a guy like Rem Pitlick (except Pitlick had a ridiculous shooting percentage that he likely does not replicate). None are going to help Tavares in the dirty areas either, assuming they are used at 2LW.

ZAR, Raffl, and Motte only make sense for a shutdown line. Unless we are putting Engvall on a more offensive line, then we already have our shutdown line: Engvall - Kampf - NAK. None of them provide any offensive value at all. Johan Larsson, who is not signing with PIT it seems, can also fit in this category as a gritty shutdown guy, but he may have a little bit more offensive value and he can spot at center once in a while.

Steel, Heinen, Rask, Stastny, and Tierney should be on the list, but the list is definitely shrinking and it is definitely not the best.

I'd guess he overplayed his hand with the Rangers and when they moved on to Trochek there wasn't another team with an offer comparable to what he turned down from NYR.

He will probably need to go to Calgary.

I like both Janmark and Jarnkrok.

Can PK, can play centre or wing, good two way players. Janmark brings more grit while Jarnkrok brings more offensive ability

We could use all the depth scoring we can get. Donato although not very good is great at producing, there's value in that at the bottom of our lineup. Milano produces and he's actually got very good impacts at both ends of the ice- there may be a legitimately good middle-6 F there and someone that could compliment the 2nd line nicely. Donato I'm a fan of. Good impacts, good production. A little shocking he wasn't qualified, I didn't even clock that. Steel makes some sense, but he's been bad in the NHL thus far, and you're hoping he all of a sudden makes good on what he did in junior. Doesn't feel like a great fit, but if it's a sub 1M contract, who cares.

0 interest in Rask/Stastny/Tierney/Sanford/Connolly.

This is what I came up with by trading Holl, I prefer keeping Sandin over having Holl. I think Sonny Milano makes sense he has some offensive upside and is creative, would fit nicely with JT and Nylander plus he is fast.
Not perfect but I can see some upside in this lineup

If we're basing our needs on the playoffs, let's remember that the Kase-Blackwell-Spezza 4th line was useless and got destroyed in the playoffs, so they're not actually a loss.

i don't think Janmark plays C tbh.

This is exactly what people are saying. Why does our GM keep signing useless 4th liners who get destroyed in the playoffs year after year? Every summer Kyle raids the trash can for more Kase, Spezza, Blackwell etc.

The more I look at things, the more Sandin and his contract will be an issue.

He's going to be starting off as a #7D, and I suspect he'll get in the range of Liljegren - to sit in the press box fairly often.

Can't afford to have a $1.5ish million cap hit sitting in the press box if they want to make improvements up front. And as much as trading Holl appears to be the answer.....it is not. Sandin has not proven to be able to handle top-4 matchups regularly yet - let alone on his off side.

I know it's kypreos, but he thinks the leafs and sandin are 1m apart

I think he's getting the offers, but just not from the Teams/Cities he wants. I'm a friend of one of Kadri's friends....and I can tell you a couple of things.

He has zero interest in Calgary. He actually has no interest in Canada in general unless the Leafs get involved. Obviously, that won't happen. I'd be surprised if he chose Calgary.

I know he prefers a big American market. A city where there are multiple other sports teams and lots to do. He values that.

The New York Rangers were one of his top choices. He was a little hurt they went with Trochek. He's not a fan of New Jersey. Doesn't want to be with a rebuilding team. The Islanders are an option but he's not enamored with it.

Ultimately, I see Kadri going back to Colorado on a slight discount because the Rangers are out.
