Sounds like prices are going down to me. Leafs might be able to get one or two really good depth forwards.

I'm also glad Kerfoot is still around at 3.5M because I prefer him over Strome.

Kerfoot has more all situations utility than Strome so that swap didn't make a ton of sense.

Murray badly outplayed Fleury behind that same D and stole his starting job as a rookie and won a cup with a decimated D anchored by Ron Hainsey. Injuries have hurt him (like Andersen) as much as anything.

The Andersen to Carolina and Murray to Toronto contrast has really opened my eyes to just how toxicly negative the Toronto press is to its own team. I thought it was bad but jeez.

Toronto's D has nothing to do with all the softies or flubbed point shots our keepers let in the last half of the season. Toronto was top ten in every relevent defensive stat inckuding a top 5 xGA/60 and had the 3rd lowest goals against in the league before the goaltending issues (and injuries were an issue here) reared their head. We all watched it happen......all except thr brilliant Mr. C I guess.
Fleury wasn't good in the playoffs for a long stretch in the 2010's. You are also severely discrediting the impact forwards have on defense by pinning a SV% to Ron Hainsey.

I'm not saying Toronto got good goaltending last year. I'm just saying that Toronto's defense is not the best that Murray will have ever played behind.

I didn't have much interest in Strome. If they want to change the dynamic of the middle 6, Strome would be the opposite. Fine with him going somewhere else. He was still an option though I guess. Interested what Dubas does to add a middle sixer

Backstrom is going to be Kutcherov'd. Lengthy recovery time anyways, might as well shut it down till playoffs. Heard a rumour he might not even come back at all although he intends to.

Leafs defence is a shit show once you get the puck inside. Way too weak for playoff hockey. Lots of Tampa goals for proof. Murray gave up more rebounds than Mrazek per game last season, good luck with those with our defense.

Leafs style of defensive play needs a sponge in net. If Murray doesn't clean up the rebounds some games will get ugly.

You can traditional by shots against or go xGA or even get into microstats.

The Pens were an average defensive team in both the regular season and playoffs during those championships and Toronto is the one that more resembles Tampa defensively.

Toronto just needs to hit on a consistant realiable starter is all.

Rumour out there that Mete is signing with the leafs.
Are we moving a D at some point then? Too many bodies already. Would like Stralman at league min, move out Holl for picks and save 1.25 million on the cap.

I don't think that's the case for the Leafs, but I'll bite...

Didn't people say that about the Avs D? How on earth did they win the cup?

I’ll take your word on the data. Im just telling you what the player who played with him and against him said.

Teams sign players for depth all the time?

Is this anything new? How are people asking why?
If we don't move someone out I'll be curious now. You imagine Sandin plays, and a 7D making 2 million is a luxury we can't afford. If Mete is league minimum he can replace that nicely.
