I don’t like it. It’s a message board. I’m posting an opinion.

He provides little to no upside. He’s 5’9.
He’s our 9d - just play the kids.

We don't have many kids at RD on the Marlies right now, unless you prefer fellow 5'9" 98' Mac Hollowell.

There really are not many other options out there, and we realistically should get two (and we need at least one).

I doubt Benn, Greene, Russell, or Sekera are willing to play in the AHL at their age. All of them will likely retire if they can't find NHL work.

de Haan, Beaulieu, and Stone would be solid but even they may be able to get better chances at an NHL job elsewhere.

That leaves Alex Green, Sami Niku, Victor Mete, Joey Duszak, Nelson Nogier, and AHL vets like Alex Biega, Paul LaDue, Adam Clendening, and Matt Tennyson.

That is what we are dealing with right now unless we can find some kind of depth swap, since we have some excess forwards and there is much better UFA depth up front.

Just then we sign Benn for the Marlies. Lol.

I've hated every single move we've made this offseason and I've been here a for long guys, I'm not a pessimist at all. I paused his moves.last offseason. This offseason has been the worst in recent memory.

I have to agree. I've been here for years and years and followed this teams offseason closely since way back when we brought back Reichel and Renberg to the NHL.

This offseason has been dreadful so far.

Who do you believe we should have signed as #8/9 depth defensemen? Are there teams with better 8/9 guys with NHL experience?

Absolutely nothing wrong with Benn as a #7. Fills a definite style need if a guy like Muzzin goes down. Or if Gio needs a breather. Defensive defenceman that plays hard. Mete is just a redlaimation project for the Marlies id assume. Somehow feeling like this spells the end of Holl in Toronto. And maybe Dubas' has plans to move Sandin along too.

how long until Dubas gets fired with this team?
It's going to be the playoffs again, right? A first round exit might be the answer to that.

Why is this team worse than last year? I can see why Boston, Tampa and Florida are worse.

Why is Toronto worse? Mikheyev out? Kase out? Off season is not over and It is quite possible we build a better bottom six.

Mikheyev and Kase missed large chunks of time last year and out goalies gave us the 23rd best save percentage in the league ..and we got 115 points.

What actually makes us worse? Having Giordano instead of Dermott?

Dubas gets fired it we have no playoff success. It’s July 14th and this is a work in progress roster. Whatever roster we start with in October is likely to see 3-5 changes before the playoffs. All that matters is the playoffs right? What a beautiful night, great night for a beer on the deck.

Good point, last year's opening night had Ritchie, Amadio and Dermott in. Mrazek was the backup. Spezza and Simmonds were in too.

I think it is reasonable to believe that this year's opening night line up is a lot stronger. A Gio-Lilly 3rd pairing alone makes us better.

To be fair, I have a very great record.

I was mentioning options for the Leafs yesterday and they were immediately scooped up by other teams.

At least this time he wasn't scooped up by another team.

Yup. If this is the roster 2 months from now than complaints will be valid but at present.

Sounds like prices are going down to me. Leafs might be able to get one or two really good depth forwards.

I'm also glad Kerfoot is still around at 3.5M because I prefer him over Strome.

Yeah, but I might prefer Strome and a 2nd and something over Kerfoot.

Maybe not, actually….. but good sign of the market at least.

He's who I want....

Steel would be solid too.

Strome is off the list now, so we are pretty much down to Steel, Jarnkrok, Tierney, and maybe Rask (who is far from ideal but should at least be very cheap).

Agreed, those are the only 3 worth a spot on the roster. Each has a different advantage, and each has their disadvantages too.
