Didn't think there would be too much movement at all from us.

The cap barely went up(despite revenues rocking) and we are already a top 5 elite team in the league that needed to make goaltending changes. Once those were done it's just minor moves here and there.

Kerfoot and Holl maybe?, Sandin needs to be dealt with and a couple of bottom 6 forwards that may be rookie promotions or cheapie FA signings.

There are always surprises though I guess.
I was hoping for like Blackwell to re-sign and maybe Balcers
oh wanted us to try and get Blackwood and not Murray.

How are you on trading Kerfoot for assets, replacing him with Strome (who will be asking for more than league min for sure..how much do you think?) and then signing Sandin + playing the rookies to round out the lineup?

I mean signing Sandin and Engvall is automatic for me already and we have the cap to do it.

But trade Kerf and Holl to buy a good forward or two? sure yeah i'm in.

Strome is definitely more than league min but i'd still be wary of anything more than a very nice hometown discount show-me type deal. I dunno...$2-2.5? And then get another forward in that same price range and get a league min vet for the 7D slot?

For all the talk about Bergeron and Krejci coming back to the Bruins I think the best I can do is eke out $6m in bruins capspace for the two of them.

Yup, I would be very happy if it played out that way.

Some people are down on Strome because his numbers away from Kane were bad but those same people havnt checked Kanes numbers away from Strome last year. He'd be my main target and 2-2.5x2 would be great for him.

Last time i checked Strome's numbers were just as good away from Kane as they were with him?

the guy whose numbers really dipped away from Kane were Debrincat's.

Chychrun, crouse, bjugstad for nylander, kerfoot, holl and sandin

Sign bergeron $6 million x 3 years
Sign Subban $2 millions x 2 years

It’s not the silliness of it more like the sudden influx of a lot of impact guys on a kids crew. Chemistry changes, new additions may not live up to expectations, etc. Happens all the time that teams winning the offseason often don’t perform as expected.
Expectations also change.

At training camp the questions from the media will be a lot different than the young players are used to.

They're going to immediately feel a rise of urgency.

Gaudreau said that Nationwide arena has been a fun place to play. I don't blame him because anything is an upgrade over the Saddledump and its library atmosphere

Just love how Calgary took a massive L. I hope Tkachuk leaves, too.

The opportunity for the Leafs to strike is right there for the taking .. The loss of Johhny Hockey might mean the end of Tkachuk in Calgary as well.

Time for Toronto to strike .. Willy Nylander and Alex Kerfoot and + ?? (pick/prospect) for Matthew Tkachuk (RFA) because Calgary can't lose both.

The $10.5 mil cap space shipped out more than enough to get Matthew Tkachuk signed long-term.

That battle of Ontario alone would make Toronto a desired landing spot for Tkachuk not only to play against his brother in Ottawa but perhaps ride shotgun again beside his pal Auston (from USA NDP) , or his London Knight running mate Marner.

Willy Nylander's father Micheal played many years in Calgary, and in fact Willy (while Swedish) was born in Calgary Alberta, while he was a member of the Flames and Kerfoot being a BC boy moves closer to home as well.

This is too easy even if the Leafs need to add a pick/prospect to seal the deal .. Come on Dubas make the call.

Just wanted to clear this math up for myself.

Kerfoot 3.5m
Holl 2.0m
one more roster slot 0.75m

gives us 6.25m in space to sign 3 players including a league min 7th D.

So trading those two and signing a league min vet 7th D leaves us a full $5.5m to spend on two forwards.

That could be two $2.25m forwards or one $4.75m forward and one league minimum forward.

I'd be surprised if Kerfoot and Holl are traded.

Dubas protected them last year, I say he stands pat on both of them.

Kerfoot wasnt protected.

I like Blackwell too as a guy who might thrive here but Samsonov is in the same category IMO.

Murray has his injury concerns for sure but the two cups and the fact he had a real good Dec. to Feb. (before a couple of a rough outings and injury to close out the year)

Top 5 goalies from Dec.-Feb. last season in the NHL (min 10 games played)
1. Shesterkin: .947
2. Swayman: .944
3. Husso: .935
4. Murray: .932
5. Andersen: .931

...while playing behind, by far, the most trash D of the bunch.

The Leafs are probably the best defensive team he has been on since, maybe ever. Let's see if he takes the reins and I think the concussion injuries are the major concern (and buried by LTIR if he gets a major one right?).

We have 2.8 mil if you take away the 13th forward

Engvalls qo is 1.4 mil correct?

You can get sandin for a 3rd at 2.1 mil and we'd be over the cap with a match. I wouldn't assume we have it in the bag to sign both.

A third to take the gamble on him is a solid bet especially if his agent is openly searching for them

I wasn't hinting at anything ..

I thought I was quite clear that if the Leafs first went out and spent Kerfoot's cap space putting them +$3.5 mil over the salary max limit, that then if Leafs tried to deal him the whole league would know how desperate a situation Leafs would be in requiring a cap dump of Kerfoot's contract to become cap compliant again, and thus his value in return less.

Leafs have much better leverage and trading power shopping Kerfoot the player first for the best return, and then once they have that re-captured cap space spend it as they see fit.
You do not see a competition for talent among GMs? Your scenario might play out if there were only one buyer for Kerfoot. I guess we will have to disagree on the market for Kerfoot. I think there will be more than one buyer out there.

Ok my mistake but I still say he stands pat on both of them.

Can we get some big physical guys in the bottom 6.

When Matthew's is the most physical forward in the lineup in playoffs, you gotta wonder wtf the bottom 6 is doing

Agreed on some physicality. I'd love to bring in Bastian and McLeod from NJD, that would do the trick.
