I don't know what kind of player your getting to replace Kerfoot for less than 3.5m that will put up 50 points, play center, and PK.

Any examples of guys we can get?

Clifford doesn't have to be on the roster, but we need some toughness presence for the dog days of the regular season.
That sounds a bit like Tierney if they can get him.

3 seasons with Kerfoot production (high of 48) and prior to his year he was averaging 1.5-2 minutes on the PK.

28 and left shot C.

How much you think he gets? I'd like to have both lol.

Yeah, I wonder too. He's coming off 2 rather unremarkable seasons, so I don't think he has much leverage. $1.3-1.5ish perhaps?

Move Kerfoot for picks. That gets another $2 million in cap space to try to help finding #2LW perhaps - unless Robertson is banging down the door.

Clifford as the extra is just a waste of space, especially since he is not good enough to be a primary call up anymore.

Malgin and Anderson (or some other prospect/cheap player) should be taking two of those wing spots.

Moving Kerfoot allows us to spend a little bit more on 2 guys.

Leafs LW depth .. Bunting, Anderson and Engvall and ???

That ??? even if it comes at Kerfoot a 50 point player expense will need to be a pretty good player.

Most people would look at that and not see Cup contender on that LW and perhaps among the weaker wings situations. IMHO.

Still need a 4th line C and counting on Kubel and Malgin to contribute on the RW.

Now factor in the risk and uncertainty in net and things are getting a little scary, considering this is with a best case scenario 100% healthy roster.

Leafs core 4 are really going to need to match their personal best years of last season not to see a drop off here.

Bunting Matthews Marner
Robertson Tavares Nylander
Engvall Kampf Malgin
ZAR Douglas NAK
Anderson

Not the greatest but can make trades throughout season if they are missing offence

I keep saying I really hope we grab ZAR, perfect fourth liner can move up to third line if needed as well. Good defensively and hits a ton

Yeah, he's near the top of my wants list as well. I would still like to see a Milano/Heinen/Donato type to hope to add some degree of offense in the bottom 6, but having ZAR/NAK/Kampf/Engvall in the bottom 6 sounds like an extremely annoying group that ensures there is no break for opponents against lines 1 through 4.

I'd be okay with keeping Kerfoot too, signing Tierny, starting with Robertson and trading for a 2LW at the deadline when the caphits can be lower. I'd also like to see Knies in that spot later in the season.

If the Leafs can somehow make a bottom 6 like this work:

Robertson - Tierney - Engvall
ZAR - Kampf - NAK

That would be great. Speed, defense, relentless forechecks.

Obviously it would mean the end of Kerfoot in Toronto, so I don’t know what we do at 2LW.

Well of all the top teams the Leafs had easily the worst record against the bottom feeders so it'll likely hurt them the least. I'm assuming Murray and Samsonov come in around their usuals which will end up with something similar to last year's Jack .914 / Mrazek .888 / Kallgren .888 combo did.

yeah weird that their young forwards got better.

you want bizarre career years from forwards look at florida.
The projected difference between Florida and Toronto is goaltending. The point about Murray/Samsonov being able to match the .900 team SV% from last year is valid. Florida's duo is projected to, and very likely will, outperform them. Again - not sure where your numbers come from that make you think Toronto's the unanimous favorite to win the Atlantic as previously stated.

How about this:

Bunting Matthews Marner
Robertson Tavares Nylander
Kerfoot Tierny Aston-Reese
Engvall Kampf Aube-Kubel
Clifford

Perhaps bump Robertson up to #2LW, and then run this?

Engvall - Tierney - Malgin/NAK
ZAR - Kampf - NAK/other

Robertsons audition as a 2nd line LW was good. It didn't produce but he didn't look out of place either. I think a big off-season and he could come into training camp looking really good. He just needs to stay healthy.

People are sleeping on him and being able to take the next step. There is a bit of a risk that he looks out of place but there is also a lot of upside there.

Leafs need to give him a shot, or start looking at maybe trading him soon while his prospect value is high. They can't just block his path or play him lower line minutes and expect great production.
