I'd probably guess Robertson will slot into the 2nd line and Kerfoot will be on the 3rd line.

I think the Leafs need to add someone like ZAR or Tierney and we're set.
If they could land both - that would be awesome, but I'm on the Tierney train too....

How many teams that finished in the bottom of the East will cut into those point totals?

Well of all the top teams the Leafs had easily the worst record against the bottom feeders so it'll likely hurt them the least.

You’re also assuming we get last years version of Campbell and Murray whereas I’m looking at their last 3 years.

I'm assuming Murray and Samsonov come in around their usuals which will end up with something similar to last year's Jack .914 / Mrazek .888 / Kallgren .888 combo did.
The Leafs also had career years from 2/3 of ther forwards and that’s probably not likely to happen again.

yeah weird that their young forwards got better.

you want bizarre career years from forwards look at florida.

The Leafs also have both their first-rounders the next two drafts.

Florida+Tampa combined: Zero firsts.

It gives them the ammo to make something happen at the deadline, make an adjustment during the season in case of injury, etc that the other top guys just dont possess.

If we can get better than the 21st ranked goaltending we had last season, 120 points certainly isnt out of the equation but Both the goalies we acquired have their warts.

The obsession with crapping on these new goalies before they play a game is weird despite the Leafs getting the 25th ranked goaltending over the last 3 years (on a good defensive team)...just as weird as crapping on them for the cap when covid affected them harder than any other team in the league. (Anyone up for landing a 10 million player this year with the cap we could have had)

Little rant about the cap (not directed at you)

The projected cap space for 2020-2021 was 84-88 million. Revenues were going so crazy it would have easily been 90+ by this season(maybe even close to 95 looking at how it had been rising).....and yet that somehow gets lost in the stupid talk of "are the reigning league MVP and 2 time RW of the year overpaid?" It's a mind-numbingly stupid analysis devoid of context and people keep saying it (which is awful in todays media culture of always agreeing with each other on a negative bad narrative). So not only did we sign great players to deals that took the rising cap into account and get screwed on it by covid, it also reinforced the narrative they were too high to begin with (which they wernt if covid doesnt happen)

This isnt simping for my team at all. I dont have to here. It's the harsh reality. To ignore Covid when discussing the Leafs cap is not being serious on the subject. Its by far the biggest factor affecting the Leaf cap and it's affecting the Leafs more than any other team in the league by its timing....and theres no fix, we all just have to eat a crap sandwich on this....including Dubas.

I don't get the crying over the cap at all, tbh.

The Leafs didn't go cheap on goalies this year. They paid up. They could have spent similar amounts on any of the available goalies this year. You can complain about their choices but it's got nothing to do with capspace.

and yes, we lost one good 3rd liner due to the cap this year. that's less than what most every other top team lost this year. because we are good cap managers, not bad ones.

Is is amazing that they reached 115 points with the issues you mentioned but when the rubber meets the road and the "real" season starts, will we fold again?? If we lost to Tampa due to our bottom 6 not being good enough, it just got worse.
The easiest thing to fix at the deadline is the bottom 6.

At this point this definitely makes the most sense.

Robertson was the best offensive player on the Marlies last year at an even PPG in a rookie-aged 20 season. Every reason to think he deserves a real nhl shot right off the bat this year and giving him a shot on an actual scoring line in Kerf's place not only makes the most sense but gives us more pure offensive talent on that line too. He might not swim right away but there's no reason he shouldn't get a real shot at it.

Meanwhile Kerf fills Mikheyev's spot on the 3rd line which gives us pretty much the same quality 3rd line overall as last year.

And the 4th line as always should be a battle Royale between the non-elite Marlies kids and some good cheapo UFAs. In fact having more flexibility this year without dedicated spots to vets like Spezza and Simmonds (I hope) should be a good thing not a bad thing on the 4th line I think. Personally I'm a fan of all of Holmberg Steeves Anderson Douglas as guys with more than 4th line potential in the NHL so I want them to have actual spots to battle for this year.

If we do add another 4th line guy I'd hope he'd be a true C and not another winger.

Marino would be a nice RHD to add in the mix, and eventually help with the loss of Brodie in the future. Signed to a nice deal.

Not sure if the Leafs want to commit 4.4M long-term to a defenseman but I think he'd be a good one to get.

Sandin and a 3rd could be enough. Turn around and dump Holl for a pick or a prospect. It would fit after Engvall but it would be very very very tight, likely would require another trade (Kerfoot).

Pencilling in question marks on the top 2 lines is risky. Especially if they are undersized or have injury history or lack of experience. Guys like that you put on the 4th line until you are confident they can play well defensively, stay healthy and productive. If that happens, then you move them up in the lineup...you don't gift them there.

Would love to think Strome comes for cheap, but it seems unlikely. Why not go to Calgary for 5M or join his brother?

Definitely need a trade if we're getting anyone of substance. Problem is how do you replace Kerfoot's points for his salary. Will be tough.

Wouldn't mind Jarnkrok or Janmark if they came cheap. Henien/Donato/Pitlick other pieces that could be intriguing. Would love Nino but he is going to command 4M.
