I get his 'potential' but he should not be the key part of any trade involving ROR.

I think they should just let him be an SVP of scouting or something, not make big picture decisions, he's way too emotional and thick headed ... like a player.

I don't understand this push that an organizations former player is the guy to take over. Maybe put them in an office position (pr spot), but not just put in charge of the personal the way they are: linden, Sakic, snow (not a former great, but a player stuffed in the spot), and others...

Depending on if any other moves JG is working on come through or UFAs looking to sign, I could see a Riley Smith for Staal type move if Staal would waive. Especially if they move Miller to center or explore a Nash trade.
So we just signed KS which to me proves they are in for this year and you still expect them to trade Nash? If Nash gets traded it would be at trade deadline because we are out of it. Whether people want to admit it or Not Nash is still one of our top forwards and a goal scorer. Maybe if he had a number 1 center playing with him we would see better results.

Can we please not have this BS argument again? It's irrelevant whether or not someone plays hockey.

I don't think I participated in the argument originally, but I'm going to stick by my belief that there are things that can only be learned through experience. You are right that this is not the place to have that argument though.

I can't wait for the first person to refer to Nash as "Our own rental"

Not advocating trading him but Nash is here for 1 more year. Shattenkirk signed for 4. Smith is signed for 4 more years.

Also not saying a Smith for Nash trade. Staal for Smith, who is a RW.

They're not going all in or out. It's just a signing. It's about building the best team possible without hurting our retooling process. We keep our picks, we keep our players, and we didn't sign Shattenkirk to a large long term contract.

And my point is we traded Stepan which I was Ok with but if you trade Nash as some want to to free up salary that is somewhere between 45-50 goals you need to replace. It aint coming from someone on this roster.

For the sake of Buch's development I would hope he could pot close to 20 next season.

People complain Stepan is slow, but never mention Hayes haha

So true...

Hayes seemed to be initially though of as Boyles replacement. Except at 6'5 he didn't get knocked down every shift by guys half his size. But...The skating always somehow got a pass.

If nobody else enters the picture via trade and Hayes is true #2 C I could see it being discussed in length in the up and coming season.

Our W depth is pretty great. Hard to argue moving Nash is about giving up when without Nash our top nine W are still:

MZA
Kreider
Vesey
Grabner
Buchnevich
Miller

Then again, if Nash gets us a C, I guess we'll be giving up.

I've said this numerous times and it deserves another mention:

We are very very fortunate we have JG doing the shopping for us rather than Sather as it's undeniably clear, Gorton knows what the **** he is doing beyond a shadow of a doubt.

For us to go from what likely was a bottom 10 type defense maybe worse before last years trade deadline and in basically 3 months transform it to where it's probably Top 5 and possibly even better depending upon how some of the kids do, is astonishing.

Normally I'd be a bit nervous about our center situation however does anyone doubt that somehow someway JG will either by some kind of trade he has up his sleeve, figure out a way to by training camp have us in position as we normally are...poised and ready to be one of the top 3-4 teams in the east with once again a punchers chance at a Cup?

What's pretty cool is that this "retool in the fly" is going even better than anticipated.

I'd not be shocked whatsoever if JG somehow figures out a way to bring in possibly a Galchenyuck or maybe even a Duchene. Does anyone doubt that if Gorton was in a room with Sakic, JG would be able to use his voodoo altering mind tricks on Joe where Sakic he did whatever JG wanted? lol

I kid but in all seriousness, I put nothing past Gorton. His moves have not only kept that "window" that was supposedly closed two years open, but in fact, it looks like we are going to be a viable force for the foreseeable future. Feels good to be a Ranger fan. Imagine what it must feel like in Jersey and on the Island or Brooklyn or wherever it is the Isles are? Must be brutal to have to sit by and watch us get better while they are standing by playing pocket pool with themselves....lol

Anyways thanks JG for making this FA Frenzy day a memorable one....

Tho Hayes is no speed demon obviously, the weight he lost before camp last year most definitely helped his skating no question about it. He looked quicker, he played quicker and he was at least as fast if not faster than Stepan which tho not saying much, is the facts.

Hopefully Hayes comes into camp in great shape ready to rock n' roll as he's going to be a huge key for us this upcoming season. I'm figuring Hayes needs to move into that 60 point territory which really isn't a stretch considering he had pretty much 50 last year tho he did slump severely last 6 weeks of season.

Nash is in a walk year. He's going to show up to cash in on a final retirement contract.

Bank on it.

Rangers would be better off keeping Nash this year.

Staal hasn't showed up in game shape and in every game since 2014. He's been training hard this off-season. Maybe there's some pride left in him. Maybe he's willing to dog it.

But getting a guy like Haula (Vegas isn't trading him)... would do wonders for the Rangers depth wise. Haula is the perfect 3rd/4th line center for this team.

Faksa would be amazing for this team. He's a pest and a checker.

Devin Shore isn't a bad option.

I'd sign up for a Staal for Bozak deal even.

Athanasiou would be an identity defining player.

Methinks the Rangers go for pure speed & hustle on that 4th line with a bunch of 25 point players.

Zach Smith would be great. Jarnkork too.

But I just don't see the dance partners lining up for the Rangers tradeable assets now.

Can he find a taker for Marc Staal? If he does, he wins the off season.

Maybe now you are correct in that "dance partners" are not lining up. However, usually the way it works is once FA frenzy day is over and all the UFA's are taken care of, teams usually go back to their HQ's and assess where they are at heading into camp.

Rangers have plenty of time to wait things out and once a team or two realizes that they are short a dman or two or have some extra assets in the middle(ie...the Wild), that's when deals start to get consumated.

So it would not surprise me in the least if JG sits back for a month or so and let's things play out and than maybe around middle to late August, starts to put some real feelers out there. We are in an excellent spot and I trust JG will do the right things in the coming months to fill our center void whether its from within or via a trade.

The Rangers badly need penalty killers. That how they should round out the 4th line. Not sure who is left other than Rasmussen, (who would be a good fit) but besides 2C, that is the area that they need to address most.

Do they?

Hayes and Miller should continue to grow. Zibanejad can kill penalties. Grabner. Fast. Nash. Probably Vesey at some point this year.
