A lot of one step forward two steps back type of stuff. A ton of players that never materialized or was just odd to begin with. Rene Borque, Grig, Soderberg, Iginla, Beauchemin, Holden, Boedker, Martinsen, Gelinas, Valamov, Pickard etc. Can't build a team when every single one of your players are losing value like a burning plant at a garage sale. Landeskog, McKinnon, Duchene, and Barrie all lost value in his tenure.

All those guys are SO talented ... it's a shame.

If the Rangers can somehow rid themselves of Staal they could have a very solid D in:

McD - Shattenkirk
Skjei - Smith
Bear Gloves - DeAngelo
Holden

May be have the PP pairs:

Skjei - Shattenkirk
McD - DeAngelo

PK pairs:

McD - Smith
Bear Gloves - Shattenkirk? Or
Skjei - Bear Gloves

Duchy is going to get a 4 for 1 deal.

2 NHL players, prospect and pick.

There is a bidding war for him.

CBJ views him as a gamebreaker. They got Panarin.

If they turn Jenner/Hartnell/Saad into Duchy/Panarin/Bjorkstand.... then you have a team that upgraded their skill level significantly.

Torts didn't like Saad, and they have Dubi & Foligno who are the same type of player in the skilled grinder mold. They are looking to add speed and skill.

Coaches love Duchene. Bad season aside, he's a 30-30 speedster that is a match-up nightmare in the right situation. Him with two fast RH shots is going to be a line that can score ~100 goals in today's game.

If ADA is ready, they'll ice Shatts and ADA on the points, Zibby in the slot. Zucc on the half-wall and Kreider in front of the net.

If Zibby hits the net, then you will get a filthy PP.

IF you look at the top PPs in the league, they ice the 1-3-1 with 3 RH shots. It's very very difficult to stop.

What is Girardi good at then? If we ignore shot metrics then he's still atrocious at defending the blue line, gives away entries like it's candy.
He also can't move the puck out of the zone with control.
He also doesn't defend the slot line passes good at all.

Watching you guys argue with Ola, an actual professional hockey player and coach, is really amusing.

The question I have for you is whether or not you think Girardi was ever a good or even decent player? I think he was. He even made an all star game, which admittedly was a pretty weak appointment.

Girardi was a good player in Torts system. We all know he can block shots. He's also a good positional player. He's good on the boards, very physical, and knows how to defend a two on one. He's also got an underrated shot, not necessarily from the point, but he's buried many a chance with nice wristers from the slot, a few in very clutch situations.

The guy has slowed. That doesn't bode well moving forward, particularly for a guy that was slow to begin with. He's an absolute awful component of AV's system, a mismatch made in hell. He can still do most of the above reasonably well though, and if deployed correctly, can be a positive presence.

Regardless, I still can't believe he got the contract he did. I assume there was competition, which means more than just Stevey Y sees something in him.

If Marleau goes, then I think we explore deals to move Nash.

A D has to be moved, but maybe they wait until after they see how Berezgalov does.

I would almost move a 2nd for Lindberg right now. Maybe a 3rd and a low level prospect?

Exactly why I want to see him with Kreids and Nash.

I don't see where Holden plays at this point, unless they can magically rid themselves of Staal. They didn't trade for Deangelo or sign Berezgalov to sit in the minors.

organizationally, Gorton and AV will opt to have a dependable 7D especially since AV will be weary of DeAngelo. Holden is a known entity with 1 year left. I have to imagine whatever options are out there for a D that can play both sides will be at around the same price tag. Holden will end up with the one we keep as our 7D. We might even see him take the 3LD spot.

injuries happen. Holden or Kampfer. NHL teams sign plenty of players to sit in the minors. I just think they might wait until after training camp.

Depending on if any other moves JG is working on come through or UFAs looking to sign, I could see a Riley Smith for Staal type move if Staal would waive. Especially if they move Miller to center or explore a Nash trade.

Never did, and still don't understand the value to grigs. His currency started dropping draft -1 year and has really never improved...

I get his 'potential' but he should not be the key part of any trade involving ROR.

I think they should just let him be an SVP of scouting or something, not make big picture decisions, he's way too emotional and thick headed ... like a player.

Can we please not have this BS argument again? It's irrelevant whether or not someone plays hockey.

Girardi was a good player, respected by opponents and even named the toughest to play against by Giroux. That has to mean something. Some aspects of the game can't be summed up in advanced stats. But he has slowed down significantly. When it is said about Crawley that he can be a 2nd Girardi, I am extremely happy because Girardi was for 6 years at least, a very solid top-4 D-man. Only afterwards he dropped off a cliff, and the injuries caught up with him. Barely able to make plays. He wasn't always this bad. But he isn't the player he once was.

The guy has slowed. That doesn't bode well moving forward, particularly for a guy that was slow to begin with. He's an absolute awful component of AV's system, a mismatch made in hell. He can still do most of the above reasonably well though, and if deployed correctly, can be a positive presence.

I understand why he gets a contract. Redden got another deal after spending years in the AHL. Girardi was a top-pairing D-man on a team that reached 100+ points for 3 straight seasons. That counts for something, even though he was really bad in 2015-16. The last season, he was a bit better and seemed to have recovered from his injuries. He was definitely not the worst D-man on the team. Klein and Staal at least were worse.

Girardi isn't a top-4 D-man anymore in my eyes, but he still bring certain aspects to the game that teams want. Him signing a 2 year deal with a 3m AAV is proof of that.
